Press Release: RIDGEWOOD, QUEENS, New York – December 30, 2015 –
Woodbine, an organizing hub for building autonomy in the Anthropocene, has released A Resolution, a video call to set out the stakes for 2016: the planetary need to be done with a way of life that is destroying us and the world, and in the face of this, to get organized as a new historical force capable of changing everything.
A Resolution looks back on the crisis and confusion of 2015: climate change-driven wildfires, droughts, and storms; ISIS and their attacks in Paris, Beirut, and Ankara; bankrupt political leaders at COP21 debating how fast to kill the world; and an ever growing number of people murdered by police across American cities. As times grow darker, as despair and hopelessness grow in tandem with stupidity and horror, people everywhere are searching for vision and direction.
“We made this video for a simple reason,” said Woodbine’s director of videography, “In the face of a civilization tearing itself apart, it’s the responsibility of each and every one of us to insist that this is not over, that we can change the world, that we do have a vision – and that in many places people are already building it. We have to be able to confront the global crisis we face today.”
A Resolution points to the sparks that are creating a new light in the growing darkness: the revolutionary wave that spread from Tunis to New York; the Kurdish freedom struggle and the war against ISIS in Rojava; the riots and blockades sparked by the killings of Mike Brown and Eric Garner; and the retooling and remaking of life with “civilization starter kits” and “removing the dust” from indigenous knowledges and practices. “We, the people who work every day, who think we ‘don’t have time’ – we are the only ones who can do this,” said Woodbine’s co-founder. “No one’s going to do this for us—no politician, no technological innovation, no international agreement. If we want a different future, we are going to have to make it, from where we are and in every place.”
As people worldwide are taking stock, looking backwards to 2015 and forward to 2016, A Resolution shows that amidst growing catastrophe, the only real future is the one we’ll make.

About Woodbine
The end isn’t pretty. Collapsing glaciers and a melting Arctic, droughts and wildfires in the west, fantasies of AI and leaving the world behind. Katrina and Fukushima, billions of selfies, and 200 species going extinct every day. Any way you look at it, we’re living at the end of a civilization, of its entire way of life and everything that upholds it.
We’re at a crossroads. In the face of this disaster, we find ourselves preoccupied and paralyzed, working just to scrape by and drowning in the endless chatter of a world watching its own end. Even with the occupations, riots, and blockades that have overtaken cities from Cairo to New York in recent years, nothing has come close to confronting the situation. We remain hostages to a way of life determined to take us down with it. Right in front of us is the choice: whether we’re going to live a life on our knees with our head in the 
sand or whether we are going to take the leap and make a break.
We must build new worlds from the ground up. It’s clear that no one’s going to save us – no government or startup, no new law or techno-fix. It’s up to us to take hold of our futures. Together we have to create the material basis for another way of life: shelter and water, fire and food, communication and coordination, strength and courage, loyalty and love. Giving ourselves a new ground and overcoming the obstacles we face, step by step.

With so many people making, hacking, designing, and self-organizing, we propose combining our capacities –our various skills, knowledges, resources, and energies— along shared trajectories such that they might become capable of actually supporting an exit from our current, untenable way of life, and making another way of life live.
TRACKS OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
