Vallecas barrio gets Wet to oppose Gender Violence #Nosqueremosvivas.
This year, the wettest party invited Vallecas to ‘jump in the deep end’ against gender violence. The annual water battle this year toured the neighbouthood, visiting one of the apartment blocks occupied (‘liberated’) by the Platform of People Affected by Mortgage evictions (PAH) of Vallekas.

The PAH is also demanding the suspension of the eviction of the building of Sierra de Llerena, the first occupied by the group in this neighborhood.

Since the year 1981, the district of Puente de Vallecas has experienced real naval battles (despite being 100’s of kilometers from the sea), which in recent years have raged between Boulevard Street, Peña Gorbea and Clown Fofó.
With a strong protest component, this festival has become an attraction for armies of landlubbers and privateers of the kindhearted kind.

Some 20,000 people got sodden on Sunday in the Naval Battle of Vallecas, which was presented as an action against sexism, compared with the 12,000 who had participated in previous editions, the councilor president of Puente de Vallecas, Francisco Pérez was soaked.
The mayor said after learning of the success of the Naval Battle participation “the water battle has established itself as one of the cultural references in the summer of Madrid and is a great opportunity to put Vallecas on the map”.
“Get Soaked for a World without Male Chauvinism ”
The Vallecas Naval Battle XXXV was held under the slogan “Get Splashed for a World without Male Chauvinism ” to raise awareness in the fight against gender violence. It was also present on Twitter with the hashtag #Nosqueremosvivas.
The Battle has been promoted by the Brotherhood of Vallecas Marinera since 2000 and seeks a mix of playfulness and vindictive spite. In previous editions.and following this vindictive philosophy they have chosen slogans like ‘Get wet in defense of the public sevices’ or ‘Get wet against the closure of the Parish of Entrevías’.

LA BATALLA NAVAL DE VALLECAS
Este año, la fiesta más húmeda de Vallecas invitaba a “mojarse” contra la violencia machista. Durante el recorrido también se ha pasado por uno de los bloques de viviendas liberados por la Plataforma de Afectados por la Hipoteca (PAH) de Vallekas, que reclama la paralización del desalojo de este edificio de Sierra de Llerena, el primero liberado por el colectivo en este barrio.
Pistolas de agua, cubos, botellas, tuppers… Cualquier arma es buena si pueda utilizarse para echar agua. La Batalla Naval de Vallecas, la reina de las Fiestas de la Karmela, reunió ayer a miles de personas.
Desde el año 1981 –aquel año de manera informal– el distrito de Puente de Vallecas vive una auténtica batalla naval, que en los últimos años transcurre entre el bulevar de Peña Gorbea y la calle Payaso Fofó.
Con un fuerte componente reivindicativo, esta fiesta se ha convertido en una atracción para marineros de agua dulce y corsarias de buen corazón.

Un sound system instalado dentro del edificio animó el desfile con música y con consignas por la paralización del desalojo del bloque de Sierra de Llerena, el primero liberado por el colectivo en este barrio.
