- Protests continue near the Standing Rock camp at the Dakota Access Pipeline construction site in North Dakota despite the Justice Department’s order to stop construction on Army Corps of Engineer land. Twenty-one water protectors were arrested on Wednesday alone as militarized police with armored vehicles and shotguns descended upon peaceful protesters. The protesters were arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest, among other charges, Rob Keller of the Morton County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to Anti-Media.
But local Native Americans are not alone in this fight. Tribes from all over the country have joined together in one of the largest shows of indigenous solidarity in history — and they are joined by climate activists, farmers, and landowners who have had theirland confiscated through the force of eminent domain in order make room for the pipeline.

Pipeline Explosion Kills 10 Campers in New Mexico —
The victims, members of two extended families, were camping near the Pecos River, The pipe, installed in 1950, became a giant flame thrower burning the families alive about 200 to 300 yards from the below-ground explosion. The Headys’ three girls, 22-month-old Kelsey and 6-month-old twins Timber and Tamber, died in the explosion. Also killed at the campsite were Terry Smith, 23, and his son, Dustin, 3, and father-in-law Don Sumler.from ABC News
Industry insists that pipelines are safe, but ruptures and leaks are a daily occurrence. Eighty people have died and 389 have been injured in such incidents in the last five years.
“Since 2010,” Starbuck explains, “over 3,300 incidents of crude oil and liquefied natural gas leaks or ruptures have occurred on U.S. pipelines. These incidents have killed 80 people, injured 389 more, and cost $2.8 billion in damages”. …”They also released toxic, polluting chemicals in local soil, waterways, and air and are a crucial element in the runaway climate change now engulfing the planet. 
Hundreds of new pipelines are being laid with minimum security to transport the gas from thousands of uncontrolled fracking wells. The frackers have been exempt from the Clean Water Act and recent studies have shown the gas is worse for the climate than using dirty coal, due to endemic methane leaks”.. see FRACKING ‘worse than coal’ for climate .
