Punk Politics #37 — Punx In Solidarity

For those complaining about riots. We tried to work peacefully. The black community pleaded “stop killing us”. You ignored our voices so a scream has become necessary. The powerful only have themselves to blame by declaring human lives capital stock and conditioning society to value things over people. You held up armed white men crying […]

Police Precinct Burned down in Victory as Resistance goes Nationwide

It’s Going Down @IGD_News As the afternoon wore on, people gathered outside of the precinct, as clashes with police continued. These running street battles escalated as rioters broke into the building, finally forcing police to flee in their vehicles. Once the building was empty, people then began to loot it and then set it on fire. What followed was a festive, party-life atmosphere for several hours while the precinct burned.

This victory over the police by thousands of people taking sustained action daily in the face of massive police violence, mainly young zoomers and millennials, represents a historical moment. As expressed in hours of interviews conducted by Unicorn Riot on the ground in the midst of the uprising, the revolt is not coming from the activist Left, nor from “progressives” or “liberals,” but instead from the local base of proletarian youth in Minneapolis. While the uprising has had a very multi-racial character, across the board there is an understanding that the entire anti-Black system of racialized capitalism must be destroyed.

LATE NEWS. Sat 5/30/20.. REBELLION SWEEPING USA .. Police & National Guard fall back as HUGE crowds defy curfew order (PHOTOS, VIDEOS) RT

As night wore on, solidarity demonstrations were kicking off across the so-called United States. Anarchists organized solidarity demonstrations and marches in Portland and Olympia, while students in Oakland blocked a freeway entrance. In Sacramento, street marches took place, while riots broke out in Fontana, which broke windows at City Hall.

Meanwhile in Los Angeles, two days of protests were organized, with people on Wednesday blocking the 101 freeway; busting out the windows of a police car that attempted to drive into demonstrators. Finally in Phoenix, rowdy street marches gave way to riots, as people lobbed rocks at the Phoenix Police Department.

More riots and clashes with the police continued in Denver, where people fought with police and blocked a freeway, while in Columbus, riots in the street soon led to mass vandalism of the Statehouse. Street-fighting also took place in Louisville, Kentucky, while in New York, clashes with police led to multiple arrests. In the evening, Trump took to Twitter to call protesters “thugs” and announced the arrival of several hundred National Guard troops on the streets of Minneapolis, whom he claimed would potentially open fire on looters.

What follows is a roundup of solidarity protests and riots from across the so-called United States. For a list of upcoming protests and demonstrations, go here.

June 11, 2020 statement from Eric King — anarchistnews.org

From June 11th This is my sixth year in prison and has easily been the hardest. After being accused of assaulting a lieutenant on August 17, 2018, I’ve been in the SHU since. The past two years have shown me a wide scope of state brutality: physical beatings and tortures, psychological games like being kept…

The following editorial looks at the recent revolt in Minneapolis in the context of both the COVID-19 pandemic and the overall social war in the so-called US.

Endlessly, we hear “why are they looting and burning their own community?” As if by geographic proximity, the Targets and Autozones and McDonalds and even the sacred small businesses have ever belonged to the workers and poor who now light them ablaze.

At a time where historic unemployment and disparity meets skyrocketing corporate profits and the advent of the first ‘trillionaire,’ we hear the scolds and defenders of the present order mobilizing to shame those who are reclaiming their time, their labor and their lives.

They remind us that there is a ‘correct’ way of doing things, that there are channels and representatives we must go through to seek justice. Meanwhile, the stores are burning, people are pushing police into retreat, and dancing in the streets.

George Floyd’s life was stolen by the Minneapolis Police Department. Another name on a long list of black lives that have been cut short by police violence. Oscar Grant, Mike Brown, Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, Sandra Bland, Philando Castile, Marcus David Peters, Breonna Taylor…every city has its list.

Yet it keeps happening. The script runs on repeat every time, wearing people down, retraumatizing families and communities, and ultimately leaving the institutions and police forces who perpetuate it in place – with minor reforms, at best.
