“I do not want to support the war policy of the rulers who promote militarism in order to maintain their existence,” said Kurdish rapper Gewr from Siirt refusing to join the military service.

Kurdish rapper Gewr (Beşir Tapu) refused to comply with the military service in Turkey. “For reasons of conscience,” as the 29-year-old explained in a video message adding that the Turkish state is “committing crimes against humanity”.
”Instead of advocating the protection of basic rights, justice and freedoms of peoples, the state apparatus is only dedicated to the interests of governments. They commit crimes against peoples, nature and humanity in order to protect their existence. I use my right to conscientious objection to stop the war policies of the ruling powers that nourish militarism and to protect people and nature.”
War causes trauma to individuals and social groups for years. And it forces entire communities to migrate, Gewr, who is born in 1991 said. He experienced all of this first hand when he was a child of a Kurdish family who lived a nomadic life on the Herekol mountain in Siirt.
When he was just four he witnessed military operations in which their tents was set on fire and entire herds of animals were destroyed by soldiers. “I also had to see with my own eyes how old people were stripped naked and tortured.”
When Gewr was eight, the family moved away from Herekol to the outskirts of Siirt, into a “ghetto area”, as the artist described it. From 2012 to 2014 he trained as a geriatric nurse, after which Gewr enrolled at the European University in Nicosia north in the Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus.
There he studied nutrition and dietetics with a scholarship, at the same time he was involved in the university’s theater club.
His scholarship was cancelled when Gewr took part in a performance about the Roboski massacre As a result, he had to take out a loan and do numerous jobs in bars, cafes and construction to repay his debts.
“There are thousands of young people who are in the same situation or who have taken the State Personnel Selection Test (KPSS) but are still not hired. Many of them choose to commit suicide every year because they have no prospects.”

“No vull donar suport a la política de guerra dels governants que promouen el militarisme per mantenir la seva existència” afirma el músic de Siirt. Beşir Tapu afirma que es va negar a complir amb el servei militar a Turquia.
“Per raons de consciència”, segons va explicar el jove de 29 anys en un missatge de vídeo en què ha afegit que l’Estat turc està “cometent crims contra la humanitat”.
” En lloc d’advocar per la protecció dels drets bàsics, la justícia i les llibertats dels pobles, l’aparell estatal només es dedica als interessos dels governs. Cometen crims contra els pobles, la natura i la humanitat per protegir la seva existència.
Utilitzo el meu dret a l’objecció de consciència per aturar les polítiques de guerra dels poders governants que alimenten el militarisme i per protegir els pobles i la natura “.
La guerra causa traumes a individus i grups socials durant anys. I obliga a comunitats senceres a emigrar, va dir Gewr, nascut el 1991. Ell va experimentar tot això de primera mà quan era un nen d’una família kurda que vivia una vida nòmada a la muntanya Herekol, en Siirt.
Quan només tenia quatre anys va ser testimoni d’operacions militars en què les seves botigues van ser incendiades i ramats sencers d’animals van ser destruïts pels soldats. “També vaig tenir a veure amb els meus propis ulls com despullaven i torturaven a la gent gran”.
Quan Gewr tenia vuit anys, la família es va traslladar lluny de Herekol als afores de Siirt, a una “zona de gueto”, com la descriu l’artista.
De 2012 a 2014 es va formar com a infermer geriàtric, després de la qual cosa Gewr es va matricular a la Universitat Europea de Nicòsia, a nord de la part de Xipre ocupada per Turquia. Allí va estudiar nutrició i dietètica amb una beca, a el mateix temps que participava al club de teatre de la universitat.
La seva beca va ser cancel·lada quan Gewr va participar en una representació sobre la massacre de Roboski. Com a resultat, va haver de demanar un préstec i realitzar nombrosos treballs en bars, cafeteries i en la construcció per pagar els seus deutes.
“Hi ha milers de joves que es troben en la mateixa situació o que s’han presentat a la prova de selecció de personal de l’Estat, però que segueixen sense ser contractats. Molts d’ells opten per suïcidar-cada any perquè no tenen perspectives” .
