Sixteen young people between the ages of 5 and 22 have won a lawsuit against the American state of Montana, so that no more oil is extracted in that state.

The Held vs. Montana case is led by Rikki Held, a 22-year-old who has been fighting climate change since she was 10 years old.

Young people and many lawyers believe similar cases can be won in other states with the help of a group of lawyers, Our Children’s Trust, who work for free for youth groups fighting climate change.

There are already similar cases in other states such as Hawaii and Virginia.

One of the youths in the Held v Montana case, 18-year-old Kian Tanner, says that climate change is negatively affecting the physical and mental health of young people.

Around the world, from Germany to the Philippines, there are 280 cases like Held v Montana pending based on human rights and the Paris Agreement.

Jóvenes y muchos abogados creen que se pueden ganar casos similares en otros estados con la ayuda de un grupo de abogados, Our Children’s Trust, que trabajan gratis para grupos de jóvenes que luchan contra el cambio climático. Ya hay casos similares en otros estados como Hawaii y Virginia.

Uno de los jóvenes del caso Held vs Montana, Kian Tanner de 18 años, dice que el cambio climático está afectando negativamente a la salud física y mental de los jóvenes.
