Russians cross road and break through to Pokrovsk
The thunder of Russian artillery echoes through the streets of Pokrovsk as the city teeters on the brink of collapse. Stormtroopers of the Russian Armed Forces, advancing with precision and overwhelming firepower, have infiltrated the urban center, shattering part of Ukrainian defenses and sending shockwaves through Kyiv’s crumbling frontlines.
After Pokrovsk.. The Race to complete ‘liberation of Donetsk’ – in April 2026?

If we calculate the rate of Russian conquest from Avdivka to Pokrovsk it could take a year or more to ‘liberate’ the rest of ethnic Russian Donetsk Oblast. However if we calculate including the acceleration of capture, the exhaustion of Ukrainian soldiers and the increase of Russian resources, etc, then Donetsk could be fully occupied in 6 months and reconstruction could begin. Along with already Luhansk, and a large part of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson occupied, that could be enough basis for a realistic compromise Peace Deal – in April 2026, earliest, excluding massive NATO reinforcements.

What was once another fortified Ukrainian fortress is now a battleground where Russian troops are advancing in a key district, while desperate Ukrainian commanders scramble to plug the widening gaps in their lines.

July 31st Russian breakthrough

Geolocation proven map: 48.27223 37.15417- Russian Pokrovsk breakthrough ‘not just a raid’. – simplicius76 3rd August 25… ‘It’s likely that the city will be bisected in some way, with eastern portions left to be captured first’.
Pokrovsk stands on the brink. With Russian forces infiltrating the city center, cutting supply lines, and encircling Ukrainian troops. The fall of this key fortress now appears inevitable, although normal Russian tactics are to slowly isolate and throttle resistance, avoiding mass casualties..
The broader implications are undeniable, the loss of Pokrovsk will pave the way to Mirnograd (Dimitrov) and further unravel Ukraine’s defensive efforts across Donbass. Victory in Donbass is a key necessity in Russia’s minimum demands for a ceasefire.
Pokrovsk was a major communications and war supply center, built up over 8 years of western backed civil war from 2014. It also boasts a huge coal mine and the biggest Coking Plant which is key to the Ukrainian steel industry.

July 16th…. July28th …. July 30th
The situation in and around Pokrovsk grows increasingly dire. Ukrainian reserves, hastily thrown into the battle, are insufficient to stem the Russian tide.
Reports indicate that Ukrainian troops, demoralized and outgunned, are losing cohesion. The scandal surrounding the 34th Ukrainian Coastal Defense Brigade, where soldiers openly accuse their inexperienced 27-year-old commander of incompetence, only deepens the sense of disarray
Even more telling is Kyiv’s frantic reshuffling of Territorial Defense brigades into regular army units in this direction, a clear sign of exhaustion and dwindling manpower.
The death of 20-year-old junior sergeant Angelina Martynyuk, for example, a reconnaissance officer killed near Pokrovsk, underscores the Ukrainian army’s reckless deployment of untrained personnel, including young women, into near-suicidal operations against Russian positions.

The final anti-nazi victory was on 8 September 1943- at least part of Pokrovsk should be liberated again by the anniversary
Today Pokrovsk is a ghost town with only 1500 civilians not yet forced to leave.[25][26 , out of 60K residents in 2021 . It’s an ethnic Russian and majority Russian speaking town (59.8%) in Donetsk Oblast with a tragic anti fascist history. 4788 residents of the town (then 30k p0pulation) were killed by the Nazis in World War II. The Germans operated a Nazi prison, a penal forced labour camp and a subcamp of the Stalag 378 prisoner-of-war camp in the town and massacred all the Jews[10][11][12] Pokrovsk later suffered on the frontline of the 2024-2021 Ukraine Donetsk War. The final anti-nazi peoples victory was on 8 September 1943..
As Russian artillery pounds the Ukrainian holdouts and stormtroopers push deeper into the urban maze, one thing is certain, sooner or later Pokrovsk’s fate is sealed.
The only remaining question is how many more innocent conscripted Ukrainian soldiers will perish in a doomed defense before the inevitable surrender, and when will the mainly pro-Russian population be eventually allowed home.
