- At least 91 people are killed, including 76 in Gaza City, as Israel’s military continues to heavily bombard war-battered Gaza.
- Nearly half of Gaza City’s population, about 450,000 people, have fled the main urban centre since Israel launched its major assault to seize it in August, the civil defence agency says.

‘Shocked, devastated’: Israel’s Gaza City assault traumatises residents
Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have fled Gaza City since Israel launched its major assault but many remain trapped, too exhausted or too poor to leave.
“Death is more merciful,” said Mohammed Nassar, 38, of the Tal al-Hawa area, watching a steady stream of neighbours leave.
Families could be seen leaving with their belongings piled on trucks, cars, donkey carts, and their own shoulders.
Nassar, caring for three daughters, said he lacked both the strength and money to move, leaving him trapped in Gaza City. “As for me, my wife and my three daughters, we will wait until the last moment,” he said.
“The occupation wants to forcibly displace everyone so it can destroy Gaza City and turn it into another Beit Hanoon or Rafah – unlivable for the next 100 years,” Nassar said.

WATCH: Recognising Palestinian statehood seen as a major shift in British foreign policy
The UK is preparing to recognise the state of Palestine after Israel failed to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and commit to a two-state solution.
It is considered a significant shift in British foreign policy.

‘Is there a way to deter this rogue state militarily?’
Israel’s leaders are aggressively doubling down as more countries plan to recognise the state of Palestine next week, an analyst says.
“They are trying to push back as best they can, and I imagine they do so partly out of arrogance and hubris, partly they deploy this canard of anti-Semitism and hope that will shut people up – even though the Israeli government is the biggest cause of anti-Semitism in the world today,” said Daniel Levy from the US/Middle East Project.
Countries in the region are now discussing ways to contain Israel’s militarism as evidenced by the emergency Arab-Muslim summit held in Qatar this week, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signing a bilateral defence pact, and Egypt and Turkiye announcing military training exercises, Levy said.
“I think many are now asking themselves, ‘Is there a way to deter this rogue state militarily?’” he told Al Jazeera.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has “gambled” with brazen attacks throughout the region over the past two years, but now “blowback” is becoming a reality for Israel, Levy added.

More than 90 Palestinians killed in Gaza by Israel forces
At least 91 people have been killed across the Gaza Strip in Israeli attacks since dawn, hospital sources tell Al Jazeera.
Among the dead were 76 Palestinians killed in war-devastated Gaza City during the Israeli military’s attempt to seize and occupy the territory’s main urban centre.
At least 11 people were killed from one family in the al-Sabra neighbourhood in southwestern Gaza, where residential homes were targeted by multiple air strikes. Many people are missing and trapped under the rubble.

France’s Macron takes risk with Palestinian statehood recognition
Unnamed diplomats told AFP news agency they’re expecting reprisals from Israel in the wake of the move, although they say the retaliation is not likely to extend to Israel cutting diplomatic relations with France.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could shut down France’s consulate in Jerusalem, which is intensively used by Palestinians, or defy international outrage by annexing part of the occupied West Bank where Israel has expanded settlements, they said.
“There is going to be a lot of noise,” said one diplomat, asking not to be named.
Reaching out to French Jews, whose community leaders believe Palestine recognition now is the wrong moment, President Macron wrote on X that he urged the judiciary to improve the response “to anti-Semitism and its new forms”.

Israeli forces arrest Palestinian in Jenin
Sources tell Al Jazeera the Israeli army stormed the town of al-Yamoun, northwest of Jenin, in the occupied West Bank. A Palestinian was arrested in the raid.
Residents reported Israeli forces attacked the town of Qabatiya, firing sound bombs and tear gas at civilians. No injuries were reported. The town of Zababdeh was also targeted.
The occupied West Bank has seen a surge in Israeli military and settler violence since Israel launched its war on Gaza in October 2023, and tens of thousands of Palestinians have been forced out of their homes.

Israel accused of creating ‘Nazi-like concentration camps of extermination’
The head of Gaza’s Health Ministry has denounced Israel’s forced expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza City saying hundreds of thousands remain trapped in the besieged urban centre.
“More than 900,000 remain steadfast and refuse to leave despite the ongoing bombardment and destruction,” Director-General Munir al-Bursh said.
“The so-called ‘humanitarian zones’ are being used by the occupation to try to confine one million people in overcrowded areas with no water, no basic supplies, and no proper shelter,” he added.
“The occupation has allocated only 12 percent of Gaza’s territory as shelter areas, and is attempting to forcibly cram at least 1.7 million people into these zones. This amounts to a plan to create Nazi-like concentration camps of extermination, aiming to forcibly displace people into areas that lack the most basic conditions for life.”

France’s Palestine recognition a ‘very concrete action’
French President Emmanuel Macron scored a major diplomatic coup by declaring his intention to recognise a Palestinian state, but the move risks being followed by bitter retaliation from Israel while not providing concrete benefits to the Palestinians, analysts say.
Macron sent a shockwave through the international community with his pledge a few months ago. His announcement in a speech in New York at a conference on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Monday is now to be matched by recognition by nine other states, including Australia, Belgium, Canada and the UK.
The recognition marks the growing international frustration with Israel over its assault and aid blockades on the Gaza Strip. The implications are historic.
“This recognition is not the end of our diplomatic efforts. It is not a symbolic recognition. It is part of a broader and very concrete action,” said French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavreux, pointing to the French-Saudi roadmap that is to accompany the recognition.

Israeli military confirms carrying out attack on southern Lebanon
The army claims the strike in the Khardali area of south Lebanon killed a Hezbollah operative who was carrying out surveillance on troops.
“The terrorist took part in attempts to gather intelligence on troops in southern Lebanon,” a military statement said.
The Lebanese state media reported the deadly attack earlier but didn’t identify the victim.

Victims pulled out of al-Shifa Hospital doctor’s bombed home
A statement on Telegram says civil defence teams recovered three people from the Abu Salmiya family home in western Gaza, which was targeted by Israel in the morning.
“A missing person is still under the rubble, and our crews are trying to reach him,” the statement by the rescue agency said.
As we reported earlier, several people were killed in the attack on Dr Mohammed Abu Salmiya’s family home, including his brother and sister-in-law.

More than 80 killed in Gaza since dawn in relentless Israeli attacks
Hospital sources say at least 84 Palestinians have been killed across the Gaza Strip since dawn, including 69 in Gaza City, where Israeli forces continue to heavily bomb the main urban centre.
Israel announced in August that it plans to capture and occupy Gaza City – a plan that’s been widely criticised by the international community.
The Israeli military estimates it has demolished up to 20 tower blocks over the past two weeks and says about 350,000 people have fled since the start of September. Another 600,000 or so remain, however.

WATCH: Children killed in Israeli air strike on school in Gaza City
A deadly air attack has hit al-Mu’atassim School in western Gaza City, killing and injuring dozens of Palestinians sheltering there.
The victims include children and women, and the strike came without prior warning.
It destroyed tents that housed displaced families seeking safety, with survivors describing waking up to explosions, fire, and chaos.

‘Horrifying’ attack on Gaza City people escaping Israel’s assault

Reporting from central Gaza
A video documenting this Israeli attack shows a group of Palestinians on a truck carrying furniture as they fled the Nassr area. This was horrifying footage of people being killed.
This northern area has witnessed relentless bombardment, and remotely controlled robots loaded with explosives are operating in there. They’ve been literally wiping out entire neighbourhoods.
What we know is at least four Palestinians have been killed in this attack, and there are also dozens of Palestinians injured.
This shows Israeli forces are attacking people even as they’re fleeing following Israel’s forced expulsion orders. Because of the intensified bombardment, Palestinians are on the move.
The army is using quadcopters to kill people trying to escape their neighbourhoods and using these robots with residents saying every time they explode it feels like an earthquake.
