members of Yorum before the hunger strikes

Ankara’s crackdown on Grup Yorum, a folk collective with rotating band members, is continuing to expand even after three of its members died as a result of hunger strikes protesting the Turkish government’s treatment of the band, Turkish Minute reported.

Ibrahim Gökçek of Grup Yorum at the funeral of Helin Bölek who died first for the right to sing her freedom songs. Ibrahim – himself on hunger strike, died shortly after.

Known for its leftist stance and songs about human rights violations and freedoms in Turkey, Grup Yorum has been banned from performing since 2016, with some of its members having been jailed. Turkish authorities have accused members of affiliation with the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front (DHKP-C), considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.

The latest police raid on the İdil Cultural Center, where Grup Yorum members have been conducting their activities, resulted in the detention of 93 people out of 120 for whom warrants had been issued, including the band’s lawyers and background singers in addition to its soloists and musicians, as part of an expanded crackdown in October.

#Italy: The revolt in #Naples.. Lockdown again? like caged animals, ONLY LET OUT TO WORK

Italy: State of resuscitation – An article about the recent situation and the revolt in Naples

Naples. Italy. The general crisis – health, economic, institutional–continues to tighten its grip. We are just at the start. And the stench of the spectre of semi-lockdown, which will be worse than the first, is starting to be felt.

Originally published by Malacoda. Translated by Act For Freedom Now!

WHY A HALF LOCKDOWN IS WORSE THAN A WHOLE ONE

The newspapers are now saying it for certain: maximum 7-10 days. It should be noted that every prediction, in recent weeks, has been “revised” in advance of the facts. But what will semi-lockdown be?

It will still be the old mass quarantine, like last spring, with the difference that we will keep going to work.

In this permanent dystopia reality will continue to surpass the most perverse fantasy of science fiction writers: not just a virus that reduces humanity to house arrest, we are now facing a society in which people only leave their domestic cells to go to be exploited.

Chomsky: “Voting for Trump is worse than voting for Hitler” + More brilliant Insights at 91! .. Eng/Esp

x Robert Hackett from nationalobserver.com shared with thanks

At first, it sounded like a rhetorical hype, the kind you hear in bar debates. But Noam Chomsky, the world-renowned public intellectual, made a plausible case for a chilling assessment of the most powerful man in the world.

On post-Covid-19 society

Trump Lied, 200,000 Died.. and there are tapes..

Voting for US President Donald Trump is worse than voting for Hitler, Chomsky told interviewer Linda Solomon Wood, during a webinar sponsored by Canada’s National Observer in April. “Hitler was perhaps the worst criminal in the history of mankind.” He wanted to murder millions of Jews, Slavs, Roma, homosexuals, others ”. But what does Trump want to do? He wants to destroy the prospects of an organized human life. “

The 91-year-old linguist and social critic remains remarkably optimistic about future options, but only if we collectively confront the three existential crises

Argentina. Mass Eviction of Land Squatters in Guernica: ”the problem is the poor” Eng/Esp

Gunfire, tear gas and threatening hordes mounted on ATVs

By Claudia Rafael and Silvana Melo Posted on Oct 31, 2020

(APe) .- Minutes before four in the morning it was black night. The dreams of the inhabitants of the Guernica estate were violently interrupted: some girls and boys were ran outside, in a race against time, against the inevitable.

Hundreds of families had been living in shacks on the land in the area of Guernica for more than three months, in a reflection of the growing poverty and lack of housing for many people in Argentina. The pandemic and lockdowns aimed at stopping the spread of COVID-19 have aggravated the country’s economic problems.

A warning of what would come shortly after allowed some to escape. Others, the majority, had to stay there. The images of horror will be tattooed by fire in her memories. Of the human hunt. “They entered at 4 in the morning, the boys were sleeping, people running with the boys. They left us stranded, the children were crying and running.

Alternative Media Network from the testimony of a woman in the territory. The succession of photographs of flesh and blood will accompany them for all their lives. The burning of boxes at the steady pace of the police that swept everything away.

Far back in time, trampled, buried, shattered, remains the hope of a promise of paradise.

On August 13, the children said – for the judicial presentation of the lawyers Laura Taffetani and Carolina Vilchez, from the Lawyers’ Union – that “this land means hope for us, to stop changing all the time and know that we are going to sleep there every day without anyone kicking us out.

We also want a beautiful neighborhood, with places to play, with streets as our mothers and fathers wanted ”.

And the parents – with the wisdom of the historically overwhelmed experience of childhood – “we come to say that we want a place to live and we also want it for all the boys and girls who live on the land where we are.”

Today the experiential photo is another. It is dressed in gunshots. Tear gas. Of menacing hordes mounted on quadricycles. Of 7, 8, 10 policemen surrounding each detainee in a long line, simulated army in action.

Girls and boys keep crying. There is no way to sweeten tears and fears. The terror of the screams. The terror that broke in, as terror tends to break, during the early morning. When darkness rules. When nightmares, real, concrete, all-consuming, feed with panic.

Hope stripped 4,400 people of utopia, in numbers that have been oscillating since that July 20, when a group of families settled in the July 20 sector. And that was completed with the arrival in the sectors called “San Martín”, “La Lucha” and “La Unión”.

And with what happened to the history of these months as “the taking of Guernica” they dared to do the forbidden. Their mere presence outraged the real estate trades of large financial operators and certain political powers that negotiate under the table.

Super Typhoon Goni (Rolly) one of strongest ever, now striking the Phillipines

The Philippines is bracing for the world’s most powerful tropical cyclone yet in 2020. The super typhoon now coming ashore has winds up to 315kph and gusts up to 350kph, over 200mph

Rolly (Goni), already considered the strongest this year even when it was still classified as a typhoon, intensified further into a super typhoon. The effects? Expected to be catastrophic.

An estimated 35.7 million people (6.74 million households) and $232 billion (USD) of infrastructure (total replacement value) are potentially exposed to moderate to severe damaging winds (with damage expected closer to the shores).

Goni is not a big typhoon and it is hoped it will weaken rapidly before nearing the Manila met area.

After passing through the Phillipines it will head directly for Vietnam, already devastated by recent storms. It is hoped that meteorological conditions will make it a weaker tropical storm before then.

Latest predictions show Goni tracking south of Manila, but still through a heavily populated area. Climate Change has ramped up this astonishing storm, due to unprecedented ocean heat. Survivors could possibly sue the Major Oil Companies who have invested for a generation in suppressing news of Climate Change caused largely by their products.

Abdan Bay on Catanduanes island, in a Google Earth image, is directly in line on the Zoom forecast for Super Typhoon Goni, which at the time has 315kph winds. The image shows no sea wall protection. Its just after 4.00 am in Abdan Bay, and hopefully the town and whole coast has been evacuated. Catanduanes has 250,000 population!

Riots against the curfew: dozens of arrests and injured police in Spanish cities

The Spanish Constitution guarantees the freedom of movement and right to demonstrate

The main incidents occurred in Barcelona, Burgos, Valencia and Santander.

”The mass pickets and protests against the curfew and the increase in restrictive measures to stop the coronavirus pandemic have resulted yesterday night with dozens of people arrested and police officers injured in cities such as Barcelona, Burgos , Sevilla, Bilbao, Santander. etc

Disturbios en Nápoles durante una manifestación contra el toque de queda - El Independiente

The most serious incidents took place in Barcelona, where 14 people were arrested -two of them minors- and 30 were injured -20 Mossos d’Esquadra agents, three urban guards and seven citizens-, in the clashes that took place in the center of Barcelona at the end of a demonstration against the new restrictions of the Generalitat.

In the course of these altercations, two shops in the city center were looted, some fifty containers burned and several Mossos vans were affected, some badly damaged, Ferrer has specified.

The clashes took place in the Plaza de Sant Jaume and its surroundings after a denial demonstration called by social networks, when groups of people, many of them hooded and with their faces hidden, burned street furniture and threw flares and fences at the agents.

The director of the Mossos d’Esquadra, Pere Ferrer, has linked these incidents to groups around the extreme right, which take advantage of the “social unrest” due to the restrictions to “destabilize” with “extremely high levels of violence”: “This we are not going to tolerate , “he warned. But left wing, anarchist and independentist groups were visibly active.

Suspension of Jeremy Corbyn is an outrage: Western Daily Press, 31 October 2020, p. 26

The suspension of Jeremy Corbyn by the Labour Party is an outrage, and will likely lead to tens of thousands of principled members quitting the party in disgust.

The facts, based on objective survey evidence, are clear and unequivocal.

Anti-Semitism is much less prevalent in the Labour Party than either in other mainstream political parties or in society as a whole – and always has been.

Mr Corbyn is absolutely right that the problem of anti-Semitism in Labour has always been grossly exaggerated. Worse still, it has been disgracefully exploited and weaponised by an unholy alliance of establishment forces determined to destroy the Corbyn project by any means.

When the true history of…
