An Unkindness of Ravens

With The Dying Daisy's avatarWith The Dying Daisy

a raven looked at me today
was that you?
or the fly that i saw today where your body laid a week and a half ago
the one i tried to shoo away and it wouldn’t budge
that reminded me of how stubborn you were too
maybe the fly was you
or maybe that parrot that just flew away from its flock was you
or maybe this breeze that i feel on my cheek is your new way of saying hi

a raven looked at me today
was that you?
(maybe i just want it all to be you)

i used to think that the concepts of life and death are so significant, so vast, and so vague
but truthfully, there was nothing vague about you being there one day and not the next-
like someone just turned a switch off
and where is the goddamn significance in life

U.S.-backed commandos kill blind Colombian revolutionary leader

By staff | May 28, 2021 Read more articles in Colombia Jesus Santrich

On May 17, a U.S.-backed Colombian commando unit, acting like bounty hunters, illegally crossed into the Venezuelan state of Zulia to murder Colombian rebel leader Jesus Santrich. Like the criminal gangsters they are, the commandos cut off his left finger to verify his identity to claim the $1 million bounty cosponsored by the U.S. State Department and the Colombian President Ivan Duque.

Rebel group says Colombian troops killed ex-FARC leader ..

One might be forced to ask the question: why would the U.S. and Colombian governments place a $1 million bounty for a dead-or-alive capture of a blind 55-year-old former peace negotiator who was in a small mountain town near the Colombia-Venezuela border?

Jesus Santrich was a revolutionary fighter for national independence, peace with justice, and socialism. Given the history of the rule of a vicious oligarchy in Colombia long propped up by billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars, someone like Santrich was a marked man.

Does Anarchism conflict with “Human Nature”? .. Eng/Esp

by Nathan Goodman on https://periodicoellibertario.shared with thanks

“I know enough about human nature to know that it [anarchism] is a naively flawed concept.”“Anarchy is a beautiful idea, but it conflicts with human nature.”

Anarchists are used to hearing objections like these incessantly. It seems that many people are sure that the stateless society built around left libertarian principles is incompatible with human nature. But is this true?

It seems to me that if human nature exists, we would discern it through research in psychology, anthropology, history, and economics. So what does research in these fields tell us about states and stateless societies?

Research in anthropology and history confirm the existence of stable societies with nothing that we can call “states.” James C. Scott documents some of these in Southeast Asia in his book The Art of Not Being Ruled. There is also evidence of an effectively stateless society that has existed with a functional polycentric law for an extended period in Iceland.
