Last Sunday, November 27, Lola Gutiérrez from the CGT union section of the Barcelona Provincial Council, , was jailed by the Greek police for helping a Kurdish refugee travel to Barcelona.
She said she acted as she has done all her life, “out of political conviction and solidarity,” one more case in the long history of an exemplary activist in the struggle for social rights.
Despite the lowering of the judge’s request for criminal offense, the Greek police have used the use of special prerogatives and still keep her behind bars as a ‘danger to the state’. In this way they want to mock and humiliate our compañera and serve as an example for others who believe that people are worth more than the repressive laws of states.
We want to show our rejection for the arrest of Lola and at the same time to make a most energetic protest for how this process is being lengthened and prevents our companion returning home.
That is why we ask you to make the necessary arrangements for Lola Gutiérrez to be released immediately and to end this absolutely unjust situation….. CGT

El pasado domingo, 27 de noviembre, la compañera de la sección sindical de la CGT en la Diputación de Barcelona, Lola Gutiérrez, fue encarcelada por la policía griega por ayudar a un refugiado kurdo a viajar a Barcelona.
La compañera declaró haber actuado como lo ha hecho toda su vida, “por convicción política y solidaridad”, un caso más en el largo historial de una activista ejemplar en la lucha por los derechos sociales.
A pesar de la rebaja en la petición de delito del juez, la policía griega ha utilizado el uso de prerrogativas especiales y la mantiene aún entre rejas por considerarla un ‘peligro para el estado’. De este forma se quiere hacer escarnio y humillación con la compañera y que sirva como ejemplo para otros solidarias que crean que las personas valemos más que las leyes represoras de los estados.
Queremos mostrar nuestro rechazo por la detención de Lola y a la vez hacerle llegar nuestra más enérgica protesta por cómo se está alargando todo este proceso, que impide que nuestra compañera pueda volver a casa.
Es por todo ello que le pedimos que haga las gestiones necesarias para que Lola Gutiérrez sea liberada de inmediato y se ponga fin a esta situación absolutamente injusta.
