Coronavirias

I met a traveller from a Poundland,

Who said—“Two vast and discount toilet rolls

Stand in the Sainsburys. . . . Near them, on the stand,

Half sunk a shattered hand sanitizer lies, worn down,

And wrinkled tip, and nearby a coal tar multipack,

Tell that its panic buyer well those passions read

Which yet survive, price stamped on these lifeless things,

Hands washed to National Anthem, and the heart that fed;

And on the pedestal, these words appear:

My name is Coronavirus, King of Kings;

Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay

Of that colossal shop, boundless and bare

The lone and level stands stretch far away.”
