Call it the quantum Garden of Eden. Fifty or so miles east of New York City, on the campus of Brookhaven National Laboratory, Eden Figueroa is one of the world’s pioneering gardeners planting the seeds of a quantum internet. Capable of sending enormous amounts of data over vast distances, it would work not just faster than the current internet but faster than the speed of light — instantaneously, in fact, like the teleportation of Mr. Spock and Captain Kirk in Star Trek.

Sitting in Brookhaven’s light-filled cafeteria, his shoulder-length black hair fighting to free itself from the clutches of a ponytail, Figueroa — a Mexico native who is an associate professor at Stony Brook University — tries to explain how it will work.

250 million people participate in countrywide strike in India

Despite police repression and the COVID-19 pandemic, workers and farmers and their allies across India participated in the pan-India strike action against the recent neoliberal reforms pushed through by the Narendra Modi government

On Thursday, November 26, India witnessed the biggest organized strike in human history. Over 250 million workers and farmers, along with their allies among students, feminists and civil society groups participated in the nationwide strike. The strike coincides with India’s Constitution Day, which commemorates the adoption of the constitution in 1949, and comes in the background of an unprecedented attack on workers’ rights and farmers’ protections by the right-wing government of prime minister Narendra Modi.

The protest by farmers in States around Delhi continued late into the night on Thursday and early Friday. Thousands of farmers have broken blockade after blockade and are marching to the city. The police have used water canons on them…

The so-called ‘Trans Law’ has already passed the public consultation process, receiving 60,957 contributions, of which 58,993 have been in favor of the law, 1,386 against, and 578 have been invalid. 96% support.

The Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, assured in the Senate that “this year” trans people will see their rights recognized. She has committed to fulfill the promise of the Government by legislating on this matter and, in addition, complying with international obligations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) or the LGTBI Strategy of the European Commission, which call for depathologization of trans people.

Prohibiting hunting is the only reasonable thing – #StopHUNTING

In countries where HUNTING is FORBIDDEN, the ban was first talked about and they said it was impossible. Then it was accepted as possible and beneficial. And finally hunting was prohibited. Moral: Let’s talk about PROHIBITING HUNTING because it is possible, legitimate and ethical.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Junta de Andalucía (PP) authorizes hunters to move freely while the rest of us cannot go from one town to another. There is more freedom to kill than to enjoy Nature while respecting it. You cannot change your location to have a sandwich in the countryside, but if you go hunting you can freely roam Andalusia (and even go to Castilla-La Mancha). It is another of the aberrations of the PP against animals and the environment.
