SHANGHAI (Reuters) – China has added 517 species to its list of major protected wild animals, part of its campaign in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to end the wild animal trade and destruction of habitats.

A joint statement on Friday by the forestry and agriculture ministries said adjusting the list had become “extremely urgent” because of recent changes in China’s wildlife situation. A total of 980 wild animals are now under state protection.

The ministries promised to work with local governments to identify and protect the habitats of the animals added to the list, which include the endangered large-spotted civet and several species of birds that have dwindled in number in recent years.

Those who hunt and traffic the animals face fines and even custodial sentences for “level one” protected species, such as the critically endangered panda, pangolin and Yangtze finless…

Haitian Revolutionaries Intensify Struggle Against US-Backed Moïse Regime

Moise ‘s last day in office was Sunday 7th Feb but he still refuses to step down.

A temporary president has been selected but the US State Department spokesman, Ned Price, on Friday supported Mr. Moïse’s argument that his term ends next February and added that only then “a new elected president should succeed President Moïse.”
This US support condemns Haiti to Civil War over Moise’s disastrous rule.
Haiti is “on the verge of explosion,” the country’s Episcopal bishops say. Many accuse the government of supporting gangs to stay in power as a constitutional crisis looms.

On January 31, hundreds of Haitian revolutionaries took to the streets of several cities in opposition to the US-backed Moïse regime. In the capital, Port-au-Prince, as well as in the cities of Petit-Goave, Mirebalais, Verretes and Saint-Marc, militants blocked major roads and highways with burning tires and stones.

Catalonia: Powerful Anti-fascists chase Vox out of Vic town despite huge police protection .. Eng/Esp

By Kaos. Països Catalans Posted on Feb 7, 2021

As happens wherever they go, Vox’s electoral campaign events in Catalonia are repeatedly boycotted by the anti-fascist and popular resistance.

This time it was in Vic (Barcelona) where eggs and flour were thrown at them and they could not even carry out the meeting they had planned, before having to hastily leave protected by the Mossos de Esquadra.

Since early afternoon this Saturday, the central Plaça Major de Vic has been filled with antifascist stars and flags to boycott the Vox campaign act. The protesters have been able to prevent the act, but there have been some incidents with the Mossos de Esquadra that, once again, have protected the extreme rightists against popular rejection.

Russian anarcho-syndicalists: ‘Neither Navalny nor Putin’

This statement was first published on aitrus.info

KRAS, a section of anarchist international the IWA, has come out swinging against the false choice of a right-wing bigot or a murderous autocrat posed by recent protests — in the following statement the group explains why.

Pic: The golden toilet brush has been used as a symbol by pro-Navalny protesters against corruption under Putin

We, anarchists and anarcho-syndicalists, consider it completely unacceptable for ourselves to take any part in political shows organized by supporters of the right-wing populist Navalny, who is sadly “famous” for his openly nationalist, anti-immigrant, anti-Caucasian and anti-Semitic statements.

To march in the ranks of the demonstrations they convened would mean – regardless of any excuses or “explanations” – to turn into the back of one of the political gangs waging a dirty and unprincipled struggle for power.

We, as anarchists, believe that both the current authoritarian regime in the Kremlin, which became the successor of Yeltsin’s neoliberal clique, and the opposing group headed by Navalny, which is now seeking to seize the leadership of the entire mass of disaffected, are just the spokesmen for the interests of the country’s true rulers – the dominant Oligarchy and its “Iron Heel”.
