A new report from ICAN — Complicit: 2020 Global Nuclear Weapons spending — names names and produces some horrifying spending numbers, made all the more immoral by the desperate needs around the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic, along with the ever worsening conditions brought on by the climate crisis.

As the report notes, “In 2020, during the worst global pandemic in a century, nine nuclear-armed states spent $72.6 billion on their nuclear weapons, more than $137,000 per minute, an inflation adjusted increase of $1.4 billion from last year.”

It goes on to ask the obvious question: Why? The answer lies in the profits to be made by the world’s nuclear weapons companies, not to mention the funding flowing to a few think tanks, some of which have missions that should make taking this money unacceptable.

The people of Haisha town in Ain Issa district went out in a mass demonstration to condemn the massacre committed by the Turkish occupier and its mercenaries in the village of Safawiyeh , killing an entire family, and they held the international community and the Russian guarantor responsible for it.

Hundreds of residents of Haisha town in Ain Issa district and its villages participated in the demonstration which started in front of the municipality building from the eastern side to the town council on the western side of the town.

During their march, the demonstrators carried placards that read, “With our struggle, determination, and solidarity with our comrades in Ain Issa, we will definitely prevail. We say no to Turkish fascism. Women protect Rojava Revolution,” in addition to pictures of the martyrs of the Safawiyeh massacre.

But with palm oil being used in over 50% of all products globally, the use of palm oil not only contributes to climate change, but is causing a devastating impact on ecosystems and biodiversity.

So, what is Palm Oil?

Palm Oil derives from a fleshy fruit grown originally in Africa and then populated across some parts of South-east Asia. Collectively these regions make up the majority of palm oil sold across the globe.

The new MintPress podcast, “The Watchdog,” hosted by British-Iraqi hip-hop artist Lowkey, closely examines organizations about which it is in the public interest to know — including intelligence, lobby and special-interest groups influencing policies that infringe on free speech and target dissent. The Watchdog goes against the grain by casting a light on stories largely ignored by the mainstream, corporate media.

Since the 1960s, the U.K. police have been charged with surveilling and infiltrating some 1,000 political, environmental or social justice organizations. Much of this involved undercover work. As part of their false personas, many officers entered romantic relationships with activists, leading to the births of a number of children whose mothers were completely unaware of their partners’ double lives. More than 20 women have come forward to claim they were “raped by the state” in such a way.

Today, The Watchdog is talking to Tom Fowler about the so-called “Spycops” scandal in the United Kingdom. Fowler is a veteran activist from South Wales involved with a number of groups that were spied upon and infiltrated by police.
