Ukraine risks repeating Chernobyl disaster, Russia warns, as Kiev claims Russia bombed itself

Moscow and Kiev have accused each other of shelling Europe’s largest nuclear power plant

Ukraine nuclear power plant explosion could trigger ‘end for Europe …

Russia has urged the UN and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to make Ukraine stop the “shelling” of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Ukrainian officials earlier accused Russia of using the plant as a “shield” for its soldiers.

Moscow accused Ukrainian troops of firing artillery shells at the Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant in the country’s southern Zaporozhye Region on Friday.

The plant was seized by Russian forces in late February, when Moscow launched its military campaign in the neighboring country. The facility continues to operate with Ukrainian staff under Russian control.

Kyiv controls the northern bank of the Dnipro, opposite the power station, including the region’s main centre of Zaporizhzhia and the smaller city of Nikopol.

Igor Vishnevetsky, a senior non-proliferation and arms control official at the Russian Foreign Ministry, warned that the shelling of the plant risks triggering an event similar to the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

Note: Without taking sides in the perilous dispute, we point to the seizure and cooperative protection by Russia of the Chernobyl Nuclear Plants at the start of the war, as well as the long 8-year history of Ukrainian ‘provocations’ and ‘false flag’ operations. Russia is in no way innocent, but their policy is highly unlikely to be bombing their own troops who control the plant and risking a Nuclear disaster, as claimed in the western media.

We would like to appeal to international organizations, especially to the UN and the IAEA, as well as to the countries that have influence on the Kiev regime, so they would take action in order to make the shelling of the nuclear power plant stop immediately.

#DontPayUK – 75,000 Brits refuse to pay Energy Bills from Oct 1st + UK’s mega War Gifts to Ukraine regime.

As energy prices in the UK are set to reach record highs, an anonymous group called ‘Don’t Pay UK’ has launched a campaign calling on 1 million Brits to stop paying their energy bills on October 1, when prices are expected to jump once again.

Campaign members say that at least 75,000 people have so far pledged to cancel their direct debits for gas and electricity in protest of escalating costs. The UK government is now slamming the campaign as “highly irresponsible,” as reported by The Independent on Thursday.

UK’s historic rate hike comes with a warning

The UK government has slammed the ‘Don’t Pay’ campaign as “highly irresponsible”

“This is highly irresponsible messaging, which ultimately will only push up prices for everyone else and affect personal credit ratings,” a government spokesperson was quoted as saying by the outlet.

Don’t Pay UK Mass non-payment is not a new idea, it happened in the UK in the late 80s and 90s, when more than 17 million people refused to pay the Poll Tax – helping bring down the government and reversing its harshest measures.

“While no government can control global gas prices, we are providing £37bn of help for households including the £400 discount on energy bills, and £1,200 of direct support for the most vulnerable households to help with the cost of living.”

The government’s energy price cap, which is set by regulator Ofgem, is predicted to rise above £3,000 ($3,618) on October 1, a nearly 65% increase. Energy costs already rose by 54% earlier this year.

Don’t Pay UK estimates that around 6.3 million UK households will be thrown into fuel poverty by winter, with tens of millions of homes experiencing “fuel stress,” meaning they will spend more than 10% of their income on energy bills alone.

The government has explained the rising energy costs as being caused by increased global demand, the after-effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine.

However, record profits posted by energy companies like British Gas owner Centrica have sparked public uproar and accusations that providers are cashing in on the crisis.

Earth First! open letter: To our friends from XR

In recent years there has been an explosion of activity in the climate movement in the UK. It’s inspiring to see so many determined to take action on climate change and commit themselves to fiercely defending nature. Extinction Rebellion (XR), in particular, has brought in thousands of new people, shifted public opinion, and reignited a movement. There has also been an exciting movement within XR, increasingly targeting those in the corporate media and fossil industries causing the problem rather than just creating public disruption.

But it seems that some important lessons from the past have been forgotten. We know some of you are thinking and talking about these things already and we hope what we’ve written is received as it is intended, as some considered reflections from critical friends:

We are not pawns for a personality cult

Climate Change is urgent, and we need to take action now, but we also need to be in it for the long haul. Treating people as disposable – getting arrested for the sake of getting arrested – and ignoring the threats of burnout means people will drop out and feel discarded. This is already happening. We want to build an inclusive, diverse, caring movement that treats everyone as valuable, not forgotten once they have served their purpose in a strategy they have little say in. Non-hierarchical organising means meaningful participation for all, not unaccountable leaders and unaddressed invisible hierarchies.

Cops are not your friends. The police defend the individuals and institutions that are destroying the planet’s life support systems. Prisons and police are part of the problem, not the solution. They enforce a system that is ecocidal and violent in nature; they defend the right to degrade, pollute, control, and exploit humans and nature. They are inherently racist and sexist. They need to be abolished. These aren’t impossible dreams. Black feminists have long led the fight for abolition, and when the Black Lives Matter movement erupted around the world, suddenly people were openly discussing police and prison abolition in the mainstream media.

It’s ALL about politics

Politics isn’t about politicians and parliament, it’s about people trying to create the society they believe in. Climate change is not ‘beyond politics’; taking action on climate change is fundamentally political. Issues such as race and class aren’t annoying obstacles to a bigger movement, they are essential to building effective, enduring change. The domination of humans and the domination of nature are intrinsically linked, and we can’t end one while the other continues. De-politicising climate change not only ignores capitalism and other root causes, it also means XR will continue to be dominated by white middle-class‘ environmentalists’.

Diversity of tactics

Civil disobedience is just one of many tactics, and not the only way to take action. You don’t have to put yourselves in the hands of the state. Ecological direct action is about doing it yourself, attacking those destroying nature and inspiring others to follow suit, not lobbying the government to act on your behalf. Political violence should never be resorted to lightly, but dogmatic pacificism protects the state, the rich and the powerful. Historical struggles against slavery, feudalism, colonialism, patriarchy and fascism all involved violence. Riots, revolts and rebellion against oppression have their place and should be celebrated, not reviled. Preaching non-violence also ignores how the very idea of ‘violence’ is used to repress and pacify resistance, and leads to self-policing and authoritarianism within our movements. A diversity of tactics means different approaches to working together and reinforcing each other. In this way, we can build towards revolutionary change.

Love and rage

Self-reflection and critical discussion isn’t infighting and factionalism, it’s how to build strong, powerful movements that can bring about the unprecedented changes climate change requires. We’re not writing these words to show ourselves as ‘more radical than thou’ and we know that everyone goes through their own political journey in life. But if any of what we’ve written speaks to you, come and talk to us, and let’s work out where we go next.

We’re ready. Instead of grieving for a dying planet, it’s time to step up and fight, for people and nature, with love and rage.

Dr. Mary Bowden saves 1000s! banned from Twitter, after criticizing Big Tech/govt censorship – #stoptheshots

Issue: August 3, 2022 #StoptheShots #BringBackBowden new account.. @MdBreathe2022 By Christina Maas tweets added via Reclaim The Net.

Dr. Bowden is no stranger to censorship.

Dr. Mary Bowden has been banned from Twitter just after launching a $25 million defamation lawsuit against Houston Methodist Hospital.

Dr. Bowden spoke to journalist Emily Miller about the ban.

“This looks like retaliation,” Bowden said. “My tweet yesterday exposing the collusion between Twitter and the CDC had 23,000 likes.”

Dr. Bowden was referring to the story about the CDC coordinating with Big Tech to censor online content.

Last November, the hospital publicly denounced her for pushing Covid “misinformation” online after she publicly criticized vaccine mandates, including the ones implemented by Houston Methodist, on social media.

After hearing that some patients had been turned away because they were not vaccinated, Bowden said she would begin prioritizing unvaccinated patients.

Dr. Bowden’s press conference announcing that she planned to sue was also deleted by YouTube.

The Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist said that she was blindsided by Houston Methodist’s attacks on her reputation.

“Eight months ago, I received probably one of the most startling text messages I have ever received in my life,” she told reporters in a press conference announcing the lawsuit on Monday. “And it was a reporter from the Houston Chronicle asking me to confirm: ‘Is it true that your privileges have been suspended from Houston Methodist?’”

Finally, after mass outrage, Twitter backs down somewhat.. a short clip of video of her press conference on Twitter.. All her out-patients survived and thrived.. and her new account still exists at @MdBreathe2022 !

Soon after receiving the text message, she found an email from the hospital about her privileges being suspended. The hospital went ahead to post the news of the suspension to its 23,000 followers:

“Dr. Bowden, who has never admitted a patient at Houston Methodist Hospital, is spreading dangerous misinformation which is not based in science.”

The hospital’s president Dr. Marc Boom provided statements to the media saying that Bowden had accused the hospital of refusing unvaccinated patients treatment and that she used “vulgar and foul language while expressing her opinions.”

Her lawsuit against Houston Methodist and its president says that the statements made were “materially false” considering she had “kept over 4,000 patients out of the hospital, and no one who has received early treatment under her care has died.”

We obtained a copy of the complaint for you here.

The lawsuit also claims that the controversy has had a negative impact on her life, making her self-conscious and fearful. The complaint adds that a private school in Houston refused to admit her son because of the “statements published by Methodist.”

Today, Ukraine bombed a Donetsk hotel full of journalists – here’s what it felt like to be there – Eva Bartlett is a Canadian independent journalist.

Another attack from Kiev has hit central Donetsk, targeting a funeral and a hotel where numerous reporters stay and work
Eva Bartlett

Eva Bartlett is a Canadian independent journalist. She has spent years on the ground covering conflict zones in the Middle East, especially in Syria and Palestine (where she lived for nearly four years).

At 10:13 am today (Thursday), Ukraine began shelling central Donetsk. There were five powerful blasts in the space of ten minutes.

The last explosion blew out my hotel’s ground-floor glass, including a sitting room – where journalists often congregate before and after going out to do field reporting – and the lobby.

One such hard-to-watch Telegram post (warning: graphic footage) features a man in shock at the gruesome sight of the bodies of his murdered wife and grandchild on a street two blocks from the hotel.

About one minute earlier, I had passed through the latter. A cameraman’s assistant who was there at the time of that fifth explosion suffered a concussion from the force of the blast.

A developing evil: the malignant historical force behind the Great Reset

Posted on by winter oak via thrfreeonline

by Paul Cudenec

[This is the text of a talk I gave at the “Three Days Against Techno-Sciences” gathering near Alessandria, Italy, on Saturday July 30, 2022. Many thanks to the organisers and fellow participants for the warm welcome and the stimulating exchanges. A post-recorded audio version can be found here.]

The so-called Great Reset is nothing but the extension and violent acceleration of a longstanding process.

Over the decades, I have often despaired at the general apathy of my fellow citizens in the face of the dark forces which I could clearly see – and feel – gathering.

Wondering how we could ever hope to see a mass uprising against the dominant system, I sometimes comforted myself with the thought that one day “they” would become so arrogant, or impatient, that they would push things too far, beyond the limits of what humankind is collectively prepared to tolerate.

What we have been experiencing for the last two years could well be that moment, so that the Great Reset would prove to be not just the extension of the existing process, but its culmination, the hubris which announces its final demise, its nemesis.

So what is this “process” I am talking about? There are lots of different ways of describing it. It is the increase of centralising power, the tightening of control, the growth of “the economy”, the ever-closer convergence of power and money.

Today I want to focus on one concept which I think is key to understanding the essence of this process, namely “development”.

The term, in English, is a very broad and ambiguous one, which allows it to be seriously misused and manipulated.

Sometimes it is used in the intransitive context to refer to something that happens by itself, from the inside, like the development of a child’s abilities or character as it grows into an adult, the development of somebody’s understanding or the development of a particular culture.

In this sense, it carries the implications of being natural and positive – resonances which serve to disguise the quite different qualities of other applications of the same word.

Development used in a transitive sense refers to actions taken from the outside to develop a certain thing.

It could refer to what I am doing right now – the development of an idea or an argument. This kind of development is the act of organising various elements (information, personal experience, opinions) in order to create something which is (hopefully!) coherent and useful.

Again, this sense carries positive implications which can be used to camouflage the reality behind other processes with the same semantic label.

In terms of the historical process I referred to, development could broadly be applied to the industrialisation which began in the country of my birth in the 18th century and subsequently spread across what we term the West.
