The FBI has seized several domains associated with popular free ebook resource ZLibrary
Millions of penniless students worldwide have accessed impossibly expensive or unavailable books from ZLibrary to complete their University and Phd degrees, later finding jobs and buying their own documents.
As with music, some ‘piracy’ actually promotes the industry, no one wants to spend 100’s of dollars on a book without even seeing the pdf first.
Far from the US crafting a creative compromise the unilateral FBI’s seizure of ZLibrary’s domains is another stupid act of Capitalist Censure and Sanctions that sabotages culture and human civilization.
ZLibrary will survive via mirror sites and copies, of course, but access may complicated and crippled and risky.
Multiple web domains belonging to popular free ebook resource ZLibrary were seized by the FBI on Friday after the shadow library fell under investigation by the US Trade Representative.
Z-lib.org, b-ok.org, 3lib.net and other domains were taken offline, redirecting to a graphic declaring they had been seized by the FBI in partnership with the US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. While ZLibrary’s darknet domain was still accessible as of Sunday, it carried an error message above the search bar.
The site held some 220 terabytes worth of information, much of it copyrighted and all of it free to access. As of September, about 11 million books and 84 million articles were available.
Horrified users likened the seizure to the burning of the Library of Alexandria – before trading suggestions for alternate platforms to use, such as free library Libgen. ZLibrary has been collecting content since 2009, when it began as a Libgen mirror. However, users soon began adding their own documents, meaning much of the content is likely to be unavailable outside ZLibrary – and certainly unavailable for free.
Beloved by students, who seldom have the funds to dump on expensive textbooks or pricey academic journal subscriptions, ZLibrary eventually gained a devoted following on TikTok – much to the dismay of the Authors Guild, a writers’ trade group. The Guild blames digital piracy for an average decline of 42% in writers’ incomes over the last decade.
After the Guild wrote to the US Trade Representative earlier this month referencing TikTok in its plea to have ZLibrary classified as a “notorious market” for promoting piracy, the platform blocked the #ZLibrary hashtag.
Some 200 domains associated with ZLibrary were ordered blocked in France in September following a lawsuit by the National Publishing Union, and multiple Indian ISPs were previously ordered to block access following a complaint by the Taxmann publishing company.
According to Bleeping Computer, however, “little is known about the platform’s operators and commercial status,” meaning ZLibrary may simply switch domains and rise again.
Some of the domains have been redirected to Njalla, an anonymous hosting provider founded by the creator of the Pirate Bay, though it’s not clear how ZLibrary’s operators could have regained control of their domains following the seizure.

Z-Library isn’t really gone, but that maybe up to you.
We’d also like to address some of the comments here asking “how do I extract a book from this data”. r/DataHoader isn’t a piracy supporting subreddit, a guide on how to extract books from these archives was purposefully left out.
These torrents are presented as a preservation only archive and are not meant to aid book piracy or add books to your curated collections.
Once upon a time in this sub this explanation wouldn’t have been necessary. The thread will be cleaned and comment locked.

Millions woke up to news today that Z-Library domains have been seized, cries that z-lib is gone were heard from red core to black sky!… but that’s not really the case so here is what you, a humble datahoarder can do about it.
In case you missed it a unique to z-lib (deduped against LibGen) backup was made and published by u/pilimi_anna a little over a month ago. While you did a great job with SciHub, there’s still work be done to ensure the preservation of all written works and cultural heritage. So here is the 5,998,794 book 27.8TB z-lib archive for you to hold, hoard, preserve, seed and proliferate.
Support authors you love.. But abolish the strangle hold of DRM and licensing that kills ownership, seek to squash abuse of the DMCA, move to limit copyright terms and above all aim to ensure Alexandria doesn’t burn twice.

Would it be possible if the website hosting free books for download allow advertising in those books. Before yiu can read or download you will see commercials. The ad revenue goes to the authors and web host. That way we get free download and the authors gets paid for their work by the advertisers. It’s a win win win situation.

I bought a lot of books after trying them out on z-lib. I simply don’t buy without looking at the pdf first. I guess a lot of authors have lost me as a customer. Maybe they don’t care about one individual, but there are many buyers out there like me. What a great loss for everyone.

One young boy, I think 13 years of age, has been sentenced in the British courts to prison on a terrorist charge for downloading the library.

Buoyed by the successful global marketing of its COVID-19 vaccines, Pfizer is teeing up to dominate the maternal vaccine market even as OB-GYNs on the front lines of maternal care sound the alarm about the COVID-19 shots’ infanticidal fallout.
On Nov. 1, Pfizer issued a press release about an investigational vaccine for pregnant women the company said will protect babies from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
Buoyed by the successful global marketing of its COVID-19 jabs — an estimated 49% of pregnant women worldwide reportedly views the vaccines favorably and almost 1 in 4 pregnant women in the U.S. took them — Pfizer is hoping to hit another home run with the RSV vaccine.

Free West Media – November 9, 2022 BERLIN – The head of the SPD parliamentary group, Rolf Mützenich said the Ukrainian government put him on a „terrorist list” because he had called for a cease-fire in Ukraine.
He added that he had also “received threats”.
The criteria according to which Kiev differentiates its friends from its enemies has irked the president of the group SPD in the Bundestag, Mützenich.
German politicians are particularly indignant that their names are now on the list of people who “promote narrative people in accordance with Russian propaganda”.
This document is published on the website of the Center for Combating Disinformation to the National Defense and Security Council of Ukraine.
“I was irritated that the Ukrainian government had put me on a terrorist list on the grounds that I was working for a cease-fire or for the possibility of taking new diplomatic measures,” he told the German news agency dpa.
According to him, he has since also received “secondary threats, so to speak, which are not easy to manage either”.
Mützenich stressed that if the commitment to a cease-fire is a criterion for inclusion on this list, then the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, must also be included. He complained of “discrimination” against those who, like him, campaign for diplomacy as a means of ending the conflict.
He also accused the partners of the SPD coalition, namely the Greens and the FDP, of resorting to the same discrimination. “I oppose this rigorism. The fact remains that most wars did not end on the battlefield.”
The deputy has been on the list since July. As proof, the Ukrainians cited an article published on the website of the German information agency RND.
The article indicated that the deputy found it “normal” that the German Chancellor, with the American and French Presidents, discussed ways to end the war in Ukraine.
According to the article, Mützenich referred to the sanctions packages, but also to the attempt to achieve humanitarian ceasefires.
Forget woke capitalism or some tax scheme. Patagonia has moved the goalposts—again—on our expectations of what companies can do to fight climate change.
When the news hit earlier this week that Yvon Chouinard and his family had given up ownership of Patagonia, it was met with waves of mixed emotions from fans and the broader business community: inspiring, incredible, optimistic, cynical—and sometimes all at once.
Yvon Chouinard
In moving all ownership of the company to the Patagonia Purpose Trust and Holdfast Collective, the Chouinards have once again forced other companies and their leaders to confront just how they will reconcile their own company structures with their stated goals of addressing the climate catastrophe.
And guess what? No matter what they do, their customers are going to confront them on it. Just as Patagonia has helped move the goalposts on sustainability in the supply chain, and speaking out on social and environmental issues, it has now established a new standard for how a company can truly walk the walk on its values far beyond an ESG or CSR strategy.
There has been, and will continue to be, plenty of admiration and praise from afar, including from within major global corporations. But just as with its sustainability influence, many will simply look at Patagonia’s move as a luxury of being a privately owned company, without the handcuffs of, and obligation to, public shareholders.
Others, conveniently ignoring the precedent and arc of founder Yvon Chouinard’s 50-year career, will see it, dubiously, as creative legal maneuvering to avoid a massive tax bill.
One can’t really expect Exxon or Amazon to look at the Patagonia news and be immediately inspired to follow suit. Even Patagonia’s peer group in outdoor apparel is often nested within larger conglomerates in which this specific structure will be difficult to emulate. But Chouinard is thinking about the future—not only for Patagonia, but also for the next generation of entrepreneurs and the companies they’ll build.
The Venezuelan president affirmed that “if we continue at this self-destructive pace, in 30 or 40 years this planet will be uninhabitable”.
Cairo, November 8 (RHC)– The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, urged this Tuesday during his speech at the COP27 summit on climate change being held in Egypt, to change the consumerist model in a way that stops the destruction of the Amazon and preserves life on the planet.
Speaking at the High Level Segment of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), the Venezuelan head of state began his speech at the conclave by warning that “the climate crisis is an unavoidable reality that can only be confronted with concrete, urgent and immediate actions.”
“…Though Venezuela produces a great deal of oil, 70 percent of the country’s energy is hydroelectric. Venezuela invests $500 million per year into alternative energy. Already, the Bolivarian government has replaced 155 million inefficient light bulbs with newly developed eco-friendly ones. A program to replace other household appliances with more eco-friendly ones is in the works.A total of 58 million hectares of forest in Venezuela are protected, and a mass program of reforestation is being carried out.…”
In this sense, the president pointed out that “the dimension of this crisis does not take us by surprise. Since the beginning of the environmental diplomacy, we had sufficient data to declare an early emergency and act accordingly”.
In turn, Maduro emphasized that “every hour, every month, every year of inaction, of hesitation, of indolence, translates today into destroyed ecosystems, extinct species and the deterioration of the planet’s living conditions.”
Nicolás Maduro
Accordingly, he pointed out that “yesterday we were threatened by climate change, but today it is the absolute collapse of the ecosystem that stands before us as a fatal destiny. The most current projections say that if we continue at this self-destructive pace, in 30 or 40 years this planet will be uninhabitable.”
