Horror for thousands, profits for a few. At the headquarters of Elbit Systems, one of the main Israeli arms manufacturers, the calculator does not stop throwing up scandalous figures: in the third quarter of this year its income has grown again thanks to the sale of ammunition to the army of Benjamin Netanyahu, responsible for the massacre in the Gaza Strip.

The wind is blowing in his favour in the office of Bezhalel Machlis, the former artillery officer of the Israel Defense Forces who is now in charge of Elbit Systems. According to the latest business report published this week, the company has once again achieved historic figures.

According to the document, the company’s revenue in the third quarter of 2024 amounted to $1,717.5 million, compared to $1,501.6 million obtained last year in the same period.

“The company’s order book has reached a record figure of more than $22 billion,” says Machlis.

The report notes that Elbit Systems’ land area revenue “increased by 24% due to increased sales of ammunition and munitions in Israel,” coinciding with the indiscriminate attacks against civilians in the Gaza Strip that have already exceeded 42,000 deaths.

Likewise, the company’s aerospace area revenue increased by 7% in the third quarter of 2024 compared to that period in 2023, something that is mainly due to the increase in sales of unmanned aerial vehicles to Israel.

“Since the beginning of hostilities, Elbit Systems has seen a substantial increase in demand for its products and solutions from the Israeli Ministry of Defense compared to pre-war demand levels,” the document highlights.

In another report published last March and addressed to its investors, the company boasted of the “support” offered to the Israel Defense Forces in the attacks on Gaza. It did so alongside an image showing the missiles manufactured at its Haifa plant.

Contracts in Spain

This company is among the main Israeli contractors of the Spanish Ministry of Defense. According to data obtained by Público through the State Contracting Portal, in 2024 it obtained various public contracts in Madrid for an amount greater than six million euros.

In a letter sent a few weeks ago to the Minister of Social Rights, Pablo Bustinduy (Sumar), the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, assured that “no weapons have been sold or acquired from the State of Israel since October 7,” although she admitted that there were contracts in force with companies for spare parts for military equipment of Israeli origin, among which is Elbit Systems.

Robles has refused to break relations with this company, as proposed by different political forces in Congress, despite knowing its role in the supply of weapons used for the massacres of civilians in the Gaza Strip.

“Anti-Israeli attacks”

In the report on the evolution of its accounts in the third quarter of 2024, Elbit Systems recognizes that there have been effects in the supply chain “due to limitations on exports to Israel”, “increased transport costs” or “attacks by anti-Israeli organizations”, an aspect on which it avoids offering more details.

The company also reveals that it has taken “a series of measures” to “protect the safety and security of its employees in Israel and abroad” as well as to “mitigate disruptions” in the supply chain and “maintain business continuity.”

This same week, Elbit Systems announced that it had obtained contracts for a total amount of approximately 335 million dollars to “supply defense systems to a European country,” whose name it has preferred not to reveal. The commercial operation includes the supply of rocket launchers and rockets, as well as unmanned aircraft systems.

La empresa israelí protegida por Margarita Robles presume de vender munición al ejército de Netanyahu

Horror para miles, beneficios para unos pocos. En la sede principal de Elbit Systems, una de las principales fabricantes israelíes de armamento, la calculadora no cesa de arrojar cifras de escándalo: en el tercer trimestre de este año sus ingresos han vuelto a crecer gracias a la venta de municiones al ejército de Benjamín Netanyahu, responsable de la masacre en la Franja de Gaza.

El viento sopla a favor en el despacho de Bezhalel Machlis, el exoficial de artillería de las Fuerzas de Defensa de Israel que ahora está al frente de Elbit Systems. Según consta en el último informe empresarial publicado esta misma semana, la compañía vuelve a lograr unos datos históricos.

De acuerdo a ese documento, los ingresos de la empresa en el tercer trimestre de 2024 ascendieron a 1.717,5 millones de dólares, frente a los 1.501,6 millones obtenidos el año pasado en ese mismo periodo. “La cartera de pedidos de la empresa ha alcanzado la cifra récord de más de 22.000 millones de dólares”, afirma Machlis.

El informe señala que los ingresos del área terrestre de Elbit Systems “aumentaron un 24% debido al incremento de las ventas de munición y municiones en Israel”, coincidiendo con los ataques indiscriminados contra civiles en la Franja de Gaza que superan ya los 42.000 muertos.

Asimismo, los ingresos del área aeroespacial de la compañía aumentaron un 7% en el tercer trimestre de 2024 en comparación con ese periodo en 2023, algo que se debe principalmente al aumento de las ventas de vehículos aéreos no tripulados a Israel.

“Desde el comienzo de las hostilidades, Elbit Systems ha experimentado un aumento sustancial de la demanda de sus productos y soluciones por parte del Ministerio de Defensa de Israel en comparación con los niveles de demanda anteriores a la guerra”, destaca el documento.

En otro informe publicado en marzo pasado y dirigido a sus inversores, la empresa presumía del “soporte” ofrecido a las Fuerzas de Defensa de Israel en los ataques contra Gaza. Lo hacía junto a una imagen en la que se apreciaban los misiles fabricados en su planta de Haifa.

Contratos en España

Esta empresa figura entre las principales contratistas israelíes del Ministerio de Defensa español. Según datos obtenidos por Público a través del Portal de Contratación del Estado, en 2024 logró distintas adjudicaciones públicas en Madrid por un importe superior a los seis millones de euros.

En una carta remitida hace algunas semanas al ministro de Derechos Sociales, Pablo Bustinduy (Sumar), la ministra de Defensa, Margarita Robles aseguró que “no se ha vendido ni adquirido armamento al Estado de Israel desde el 7 de octubre”, aunque admitió que existían contratos en vigor con empresas para repuestos de material militar de origen israelí, entre las que se encuentra Elbit Systems.

Robles se ha negado a romper relaciones con esta empresa, tal como han planteado distintas fuerzas políticas en el Congreso, pese a conocer su papel en el suministro de armamento que se utiliza para las matanzas de civiles en la Franja de Gaza.

“Ataques anti-israelíes”

En el informe sobre la evolución de sus cuentas en el tercer trimestre de 2024, Elbit Systems reconoce que ha habido afecciones en la cadena de suministro “debido a limitaciones en las exportaciones a Israel”, “aumento de los costes de transporte” o “ataques de organizaciones antiisraelíes”, un aspecto sobre el que evita ofrecer más detalles.

La empresa revela además que ha tomado “una serie de medidas” para “proteger la seguridad y la protección de sus empleados en Israel y en el extranjero” así como para “mitigar las interrupciones” en la cadena de suministro y “mantener la continuidad del negocio”.

Esta misma semana, Elbit Systems anunció que había obtenido contratos por un monto total de aproximadamente 335 millones de dólares para “suministrar sistemas de defensa a un país europeo”, cuyo nombre ha preferido no revelar. La operación comercial incluye el suministro de lanzacohetes y cohetes, así como sistemas de aeronaves no tripuladas.
