Lesbians/singles excluded from Health Benefits, police attack demo

Last Monday a feminist picket was called at the Health Ministry in Madrid to protest exclusion of single women and lesbians from health benefits, the latest neo-fascist law, as well as new restrictions on abortion rights, ,exclusion of violence victims with less than 24  hrs in hospital from statistics, closure of hospirals, etc etc. Men were invited.

Well over 500 people showed up, to a festive atmosphere, but the pòlice aggressively identified people, harrassing old people and then attacked without warning, causing many injuries. The press were attacked first, so there are few images of the violence.

Against different attacks on our rights that women are suffering and cuts the government insists on carrying out , this evening is being organized  a feminist ‘escrache’ (personal picket) at 20:00 in front of the Ministry of Health.

We already knew Gallardón’s intentions to reform the abortion law to make it back to a restrictive law that forgets the right of women to decide about their own motherhood.

To this in recent days has been added  the intentions of the Ministry of Health of leaving out single mothers and lesbian women from assisted birth programs, that is, only if you have a man by your side, do you deserve to be a mother.

The government not only wants  to coerce mothers who, for whatever reason, do not want or can not afford to be married, but also wants to prevent the maternity of those, wanting to be, are outside the traditional family canons, only by the fact of not having a male partner.

And to top of all that, today we got yet more chilling news: the government, in a new attempt to falsify the numbers of victims of domestic violence, intends to exclude the statistics of women who, having been assaulted by their partner or former partner and although physically injured, have not required hospitalization exceeding 24 hours.

Do they think that minimizing the problem of violence against women makes us more secure? No, it’s just a way to distort the statistics to try to forget one of the most important problems of this patriarchal society in which we live, male violence.

For all this, and despite a lack of meeting this past Saturday, we could not reach consensus on it, from the Feminst Communication Group we ask you this afternoon you go out and share your voice, both men or women, because equality and respect for women’s rights is a cause that concerns everyone.

Frente a las distintas agresiones que estamos sufriendo las mujeres y los recortes en nuestros derechos que insiste en llevar a cabo el gobierno, para esta misma tarde se está organizando un escrache feminista a las 20:00 frente al Ministerio de Sanidad.

Ya conocíamos las intenciones de Gallardón de reformar la ley del aborto para hacerla retroceder hasta una ley restrictiva que olvida el derecho de la mujer a decidir sobre su propia maternidad. A esto en los últimos días se ha sumado que hemos conocido las intenciones del Ministerio de Sanidad de dejar fuera de los programas de reproducción asistida a las madres solteras y a las mujeres lesbianas, es decir, que si no tienes un varón a tu lado, no tienes derecho a ser madre. Desde el gobierno no sólo pretenden obligar a ser madres a aquellas que, por la razón que sea, no quieren o no pueden permitirse serlo, sino que también quiere impedir la maternidad de quienes, queriendo serlo, están fuera de los cánones familiares tradicionales sólo por el hecho de no tener un varón de pareja.

Y para rizar el rizo, hoy mismo hemos conocido también otra noticia escalofriante: el Gobierno, en un nuevo intento de maquillar las cifras de violencia de género, pretende dejar fuera de las estadísticas a las mujeres que, habiendo sufrido una agresión a manos de su pareja o ex pareja y teniendo un parte de lesiones, no hayan necesitado un ingreso hospitalario superior a 24 horas. ¿Creen acaso que minimizando el problema las mujeres estarán más protegidas? No, es simplemente una manera de falsear las estadísticas para intentar que olvidemos uno de los problemas más importantes de esta sociedad patriarcal en la que seguimos viviendo, la violencia machista.

Por todo esto, y a pesar de que por falta de asamblea este sábado pasado, no hemos podido consensuarlo en ella, desde Comunicación volvemos a pedirte que esta tarde salgas a la calle y alces tu voz, seas hombre o mujer, porque la igualdad y el respeto a los derechos de las mujeres es una causa que nos concierne a todas y todos.
