Anarchist Lighthouse shines for 30 years in Barcelona’s Raval
Speculation and the market will NOT drive us out of the neighborhood. We will remain here, where we began in 1987, as a space for struggle and resistance.
Coinciding with El Lokal’s 37th anniversary, and thanks to the support of Sala Paral·lel62 and the participating artists, we were all able to feel the collective joy of gathering for a huge party marking the end of the campaign.

On April 6, 2024, at an extraordinary meeting of members and friends of El Lokal, we made the decision to purchase the space after the owner announced that the lease would not be renewed in January.
That same day, we secured the necessary guarantees to formalize the loan with COOP 57, whose members we would like to thank for believing in the project from the beginning and supporting us throughout the negotiations.
Barcelona: Defending l’Agora occupied Community Site
On May 16, just a month later, thanks to your contributions and loans, the necessary funds (down payment, taxes, registration, and notary fees) had been secured, and the deed was formalized.
In parallel, we launched a public fundraising campaign through Goteo and direct contributions that exceeded all expectations.
In less than a month, the optimal goal had been reached, so we decided to close it, as reported at the open meeting on June 26, where the presentation of the results erupted into a huge celebration.

(New Mutual Aid Hotline Blocks dozens of Evictions, Threats and Toxic Capitalism ..) we’re living a situation of extreme urgency with weekly and often daily evictions, harassment and bullying, an exponential increase of speculative practices, and price rises that are covert expulsions of the population
To date, thanks to the contributions of more than 600 individuals and groups, more than €80,000 has been raised. This has allowed us to cover the down payment, the costs and taxes for the title deed, make an unexpected early repayment of €20,000 on the loan, and repay the more than €18,000 in loans received from members and friends, who advanced the necessary funds to formalize the purchase in just one month (see detailed accounts in the attached document).
The success of the campaign has also allowed us to begin the improvement work that El Lokal needs after decades of neglect by the owners: we already have a new electrical system, we’ve knocked down some walls, and we’re finishing the repairs to the walls and damp patches.
We’re also planning a reorganization of the space to better organize the materials and infrastructure for the neighborhood. In addition to all the improvements, the amount raised will allow us to maintain a reserve fund to cover future community contributions and accelerate the repayment of the loan.
And all of this while buying the essentials and using, whenever possible, only our hands and our intelligence. Once again, mutual support and solidarity.
In this regard, we want to mention the twenty-plus people who have dedicated many hours of their time to pulling cables, knocking down or putting up a partition, or fixing a shelving, who have edited videos that have made this campaign a success, who have prepared and sent the packages with the rewards (if you haven’t done so, please come and get them, we’re short on space)…
The occupation of the abandoned Ágora site was held since October 5, 2014, the first anniversary of the p0lice killing of Juan Andrés Benítez in the same street and as an act within the Campaign for Justice.
Also, to all the people who make it possible for El Lokal to be open every day…
Overwhelmed with love and aware of the commitment that comes with the generosity and trust that hundreds of people and groups have placed in El Lokal, we want to thank you for this immense common effort that goes far beyond the money raised.
It gives us encouragement and strength because it confirms that for many people it is important that El Lokal remains open to support the struggles of the neighborhood, the city, and the world; but also because this experience opens the doors for other realities to also be encouraged to do so.

El Lokal se queda en el Raval
Seis meses después de iniciado el proceso de compra del espacio, queremos celebrar que la autogestión, la acción directa, la solidaridad y el apoyo mutuo han funcionado una vez más. Entre todxs, con esfuerzo, responsabilidad y generosidad, hemos hecho posible esta compra colectiva. La especulación y el mercado no nos echarán del barrio. Aquí seguiremos, donde empezamos en 1987, como espacio de lucha y resistencia.
Este mes de octubre, coincidiendo con el 37 aniversario de El Lokal y gracias al apoyo de la Sala Paral·lel62 y los artistas que participaron, todxs pudimos sentir la alegría colectiva de reunirnos en un inmenso fiestón que marca el final de la campaña.
Ahora ha llegado el momento de compartir los resultados.
DES DE 1987
UN RACÓ LLIBERTARI AL RAVAL
El 6 de abril de 2024, en una asamblea extraordinaria de socixs y amigxs de El Lokal, tomamos la decisión de comprar el espacio tras el anuncio por parte de la propiedad de que el contrato de alquiler no se renovaría el mes de enero. Ese mismo día se consiguieron los avales necesarios para formalizar el crédito con COOP 57, a cuya gente queremos agradecer que desde el principio creyeran en el proyecto y nos acompañaran durante toda la negociación.
El 16 de mayo, apenas un mes más tarde, gracias a vuestras aportaciones y préstamos, se habían conseguido los fondos necesarios (entrada, impuestos, registro y notario) y se formalizó la escritura.
En paralelo, lanzamos una campaña pública de recaudación a través de Goteo y aportaciones directas que sobrepasó todas las previsiones. En menos de un mes se había alcanzado el objetivo óptimo, por lo que decidimos darla por cerrada, como se informó en la asamblea abierta del 26 de junio, en la que la presentación de los resultados estalló en una gran fiesta.
A día de hoy, gracias a las aportaciones de más de 600 personas y colectivos, se han recaudado más de 80 mil euros. Esto ha permitido afrontar la entrada, los gastos e impuestos de escrituración, hacer una amortización anticipada del credito no prevista de 20 mil euros y retornar los más de 18 mil euros de préstamos recibidos de socixs y amigxs, que adelantaron los fondos necesarios para formalizar la compra en apenas un mes (ver cuentas detalladas en documento adjunto).
El éxito de la campaña también nos ha permitido iniciar los trabajos de mejora que El Lokal necesita después de décadas de abandono por parte de la propiedad: ya tenemos nueva instalación eléctrica, hemos tirado algún tabique y se están acabando los trabajos de saneamiento de paredes y humedades. También estamos planeando un reordenamiento del espacio para tener los materiales y el equipamiento de infraestructura de barrio mejor organizados. Además de todas las mejoras, la cantidad recaudada nos permitirá mantener un fondo de reserva para afrontar futuras derramas comunitarias y acelerar la amortización del crédido.
Y todo ello, comprando lo imprescindible y usando, siempre que es posible, sólo nuestras manos y nuestra inteligencia. Otra vez el apoyo mutuo y la solidaridad.
En ese sentido queremos mencionar a la veintena larga de personas que han dedicado muchas horas de su tiempo a tirar cables, a derribar o levantar un tabique o apañar una estantería, que han editado vídeos que han hecho de esta campaña un desborde, que han preparado y enviado los paquetes con las recompensas (si no lo habéis hecho, venid a buscarlas, por favor, nos falta espacio)… También a todxs las personas que hacen posible que el Lokal esté abierto todos los días…
Desbordadxs de amor y conscientes del compromiso que supone la generosidad y la confianza que centenares de personas y colectivos han depositado en El Lokal, queremos daros las gracias por este inmenso esfuerzo común que va mucho más allá del dinero rercaudado. A nosotrxs nos da ánimos y fuerza, porque nos confirma que para mucha gente es importante que El Lokal se mantenga abierto para apoyar las luchas del barrio, de la ciudad y del mundo; pero también porque esta experiencia abre las puertas para que otras realidades también se animen a hacerlo.
El Lokal es queda al Raval.
