The hunger killing Gaza’s children has a clear cause that few are willing to name out loud – Eva Bartlett

Following the February 29 Israeli slaughter of at least 115 starving Palestinians lined up for food aid, there was little or no outrage by the same Western media which would have howled if the perpetrator were Russia or Syria.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, early morning on Thursday, February 29, Israeli forces opened fire on unarmed Palestinians waiting just southwest of Gaza City for desperately needed food aid. As a result, 115 civilians were killed and over 750 wounded.

Feb 18: A starved Gazan shot in the head by the IDF at the Rasheed street as he came looking for food.

Popular US commenter Judge Andrew Napolitano said in a recent interview with award-winning analyst Professor Jeffery Sachs, “Innocent Gaza civilians were lined up to receive flour and water from an aid truck, and more than 100 were slaughtered, mowed down, by Israeli troops. This has got to be one of the most reprehensible and public slaughterings that they’ve engaged in.”

Hevale- Spreading the Rojava Revolution Idea in Russia

from thefreeonline on 10th March 2024 by HEVALE- English

A few words about Hevale

Hevale: The Revolution in Kurdistan is a research and media project that since its inception in 2015 has been exploring the topics of direct democracy, gender and cooperative economy in the Middle East.

Today the local citizens in the West Kurdistan (Rojava) are trying to build the system of popular assemblies, to achieve social justice and gender equality, to establish accountability and electivity of military commanders.

These efforts remind us of the best intentions of the anarchists during the Spanish Civil War, or cooperatives’ members after the Russian Revolution, when people attempted rebuilding their lives in a new way.

Our goal is to inform you about Rojava (which in Kurdish means “the place where the Sun sets” or “the West”). The place where communities of Kurds, Assyrians and Arabs are reorganizing the society in the midst of a war of all against all.

Above all we want to speak not about an armed resistance to hordes of fanatics but about the social ideals for which people of Rojava took up arms. Sharing their principles — liberty, equality and fraternity – we named our project “Hevale” which means “Comrade”.

Since 2015 Hevale have translated into Russian a number of articles about Rojava, published two books:  “Life Without a State: The Revolution in Kurdistan” (Common Place Publishing, 2017) and “Kurdistan: The Real Democracy Amidst a War” (Radical Theory and Practice, 2016), and held a dozen of events.

Hevale co-organized events with these speakers: Meike Nack (Free Women of Rojava Foundation), Feleknaz Uca (The Peoples’ Democratic Party), Selahattin Soro (Kurdistan National Congress), Janet Biehl (The Institute for Social Ecology), Ferhat Patiyev (Federal National-Cultural Autonomy of Kurds of the Russian Federation), Ercan Ayboga (TATORT Kurdistan), Joe Taylor (Cooperative Economy in Rojava  web-portal).

We have also conducted lectures about the education system of the Makhmur camp, presentations of Abdullah Ocalan’s book “Manifesto for a Democratic Civilization”, translated and dubbed a documentary about defence of Kobane, run presentations about our trip to Iraqi Kurdistan, at the The Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Youth University for Modern Socialism and Dostoevsky Library.

An important disclaimer: we are thankful to Nihilist for hosting, but our views on the ways of achieving self-government may differ.

The Beautiful Idea: Why we need anarchist communism now

from thefreeonline on by Wyatt E Jones at The Polar Bl@st

Online Public Meeting Convened by Anarchist Communist Group

Tuesday, March 19 · 8 – 10am NZDT

We are going through an unprecedented time of human history, in which even the future of the planet is at stake.

This was not inevitable. It is the result of the systems that have been brutally imposed by a ruling elite, including colonial expansion and imperialism, which gave rise to global capitalism.

This system as spread to ever corner of the world, bringing with it exploitation, oppression, wars and environmental disaster.

We believe that only anarchist communism can save the day. The ruling class is desperate to make us think that the serious issues we are facing can be resolved within capitalism, with continual growth and profits for a few.

Too many in the trade unions, reformist parties and environmental believe the same. Demands for a ‘Just Transition’ or a ‘green economy’ are still all within the logic of capitalism.

Other options are being put forward by Communists of the Leninist tradition. Though they call for revolution, theirs would be a top-down one, sacrificing our freedom in the process.

Anarchism, without the communism, is also an inadequate solution. Focusing on individual freedom and being anti-authority does not address the big changes that need to take place in our economic and social systems.

Instead we propose anarchist communism. As Malatesta said:

US led Aid Blockade: UNRWA staffers tortured by Israeli troops to falsely admit ‘Hamas links’ – The Cradle/Reuters

from thefreeonline by The Cradle | March 9, 2024

Reuters: ‘Israel’ coerced UNRWA employees to admit ties to Hamas

UNRWA claims Israel forced employees to lie …

An unpublished report from UNRWA said some of its employees released from Israeli detention were tortured into falsely stating that the agency has Hamas links and that staff took part in the 7 October attacks, Reuters reported on 9 March.

Israel yet to provide evidence to back UNRWA 7 October attack claims …Mar 1, 2024-yet the US instantly complicitly cancelled all aid and forced some of its client states to do likewise.

The testimonies are contained in a report by the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) reviewed by Reuters and dated February 2024.

“Agency staff members have been subject to threats and coercion by the Israeli authorities while in detention and pressured to make false statements against the Agency, including that the Agency has affiliations with Hamas and that UNRWA staff members took part in the 7 October 2023 atrocities,” the report says.

The report included allegations of abuse and torture in Israeli detention, including severe physical beatings, waterboarding, and threats of harm to family members.

Though waterboarding is widely viewed as torture by human rights groups, the Reuters report described Israeli actions only as “coercion” and “pressure” to force detained Palestinians to make false statements.

U.S., U.K. among 9 countries pausing funding to UNRWA …

In addition to describing the torture of UNRWA employees, the report stated that Israel has subjected Palestinian detainees more broadly to beatings, humiliation, threats, dog attacks, and sexual violence. Some detainees have also died after Israel denied them medical treatment, the report added.

UNRWA communications director Juliette Touma said the agency planned to hand the information in the 11-page, unpublished report to human rights investigators at UN agencies and outside rights groups.

“When the war comes to an end there needs to be a series of inquiries to look into all violations of human rights,” she said.

Amid the torture and medical neglect, 27 Palestinians have died in Israeli prisons since the start of the war on 7 October

Israel has accused UNRWA employees of participation in the 7 October Hamas attack on Israeli settlements and military bases. Israel provided no evidence for the claim, but 16 countries, including the US, paused $450 million in UNRWA funding in response, throwing its aid operations into crisis just as starvation was beginning to grip Gaza.

Israel’s campaign against UNRWA is part of a broader campaign started years ago to dismantle the agency, which helps keep the hope of Palestinian refugees returning to their stolen lands and homes in what is now Israel alive.

Since 7 October, Palestinian human rights groups have been warning of the blackout imposed by Israel on Palestinian prisoners and detainees, especially detainees from the Gaza Strip arrested during the war.

In November, Palestinians released during the Hamas-Israel deal shared testimonies of abuse and torture in Israeli prisons. Earlier in February, the UN experts said in a report that at least two female Palestinian prisoners were facing sexual abuse.

Meanwhile, Palestinian prisoner support groups have suspended all communication with the International Committee of the Red Cross in protest to what they consider “inaction” towards deteriorating conditions for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
