4 out of every 10 Turkish women experience domestic violence, academic study says

Four out of every 10 Turkish women experience domestic violence during their lifetime, the Stockholm Center for Freedom reported citing BBC Turkish service.

According to the report, citing a study by the Ankara-based Hacettepe University Population Studies Institute, 75 percent of women who are divorced or separated from their spouses are victims of physical abuse. Nine percent of women suffer from sexual abuse during their childhood.

The results of the study, which was conducted in 2008 and 2014, were presented to the Parliamentary Investigation Committee on Violence Against Women.

She wanted to draw the agency’s attention to the findings that indicate the glyphosate-based herbicide Roundup causes high levels of mortality following contact exposure in bumblebees (glyphosate-formulated herbicides are the most widely used weedicides in agriculture across the globe).

Alternative trade unionism and social movements blocked the Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona on May 1 with a concentration denouncing the capitalist system as “irrational” and the cause of social crises and ecological catastrophes, underlining the “absolute failure” of the capitalism to solve the crisis derived from the pandemic.

The trade union organizations that are alternatives to bureaucratic trade unionism organized in the Taula Sindical de Catalunya (CGT, IAC, CNT, COS, Co.bas) together with anti-capitalist political organizations and social groups have denounced that the pandemic has highlighted the precariousness it causes… the current capitalist economic model.

The action consisted of cutting Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona with a concentration of activists against the current economic model. Participants denounce the capitalist system as “irrational” and the cause of social crises and ecological catastrophes, pointing to the “absolute failure” of capitalism to resolve the crisis derived from the pandemic.

WASHINGTON —In the dying months of his administration, President Donald Trump removed from the United States terrorist list a little-known paramilitary organization called ETIM, an acronym that stands for either the East Turkestan Independence Movement or the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, depending on whom one asks. The group is also sometimes known as the [East] Turkestan Islamic Party (TIP or ETIP).

Explaining the decision, the State Department said that “ETIM was removed from the list because, for more than a decade, there has been no credible evidence that ETIM continues to exist.” The move was hailed by a wide range of Uyghur groups in the United States, who saw it as a step towards blocking China’s actions against Uyghurs in Xinjiang Province.

Monkeys, demented by genetic engineering, should help in the search for Alzheimer’s drugs!!

The notifying parties argue that the number of patients is increasing rapidly. But patent critics do not want to condone such practices.

A patent on monkeys and other animals in which symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease are triggered by genetic engineering causes protests among patent opponents.
It protects rodents, primates, and great apes, which are specifically made demented for research in the pharmaceutical industry and then used as laboratory animals.
The organization Testbiotech announced that opposition has now been filed against the patent.
The European Patent Office (EPO) confirmed receipt of the opposition.

“The patented process is associated with considerable suffering for the animals – the specific medical benefit, on the other hand, seems questionable”, said Christoph Then from Testbiotech.

There are ethical concerns.

The Dictator Duque ordered massive deployment of the right wing police and army with up to 20 now dead and suspect death squad killings.

Thousands of Colombians took to the streets for International Workers’ Day marches and protests against a government tax reform proposal, in a fourth day of demonstrations that have resulted in at least six deaths.

”Unions and other groups kicked off marches on Wednesday to demand the government of president Ivan Duque withdraw the proposal, which originally imposed sales tax on public services and some food..

Cali, the country’s third-largest city, has seen the most vociferous marches, some looting and the burning of multiple city buses.

”Death counts were inconsistent. National human rights ombudsman Carlos Camargo said that three protesters died in Cali and another three deaths there were being investigated.

The rights organization Human Rights Watch said it had received reports of possible police abuse in Cali, and local human rights groups alleged up to 14 deaths occurred. Right wing US sponsored death squads are cooperating with the police..
