Day 200: #1492LandBackLane Update..It’s a crime to fight for our lands, but we are still fighting.

Defenders from Haudenosaunee Six Nations occupied a disputed tract of land in Caledonia, an hour south of Toronto. The dispute about a proposed real estate development escalated to a standoff between the government and the Six Nations Land Defenders. The Ontario Provincial Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at the Land Defenders.

Haudenosaunees people, however, say they need the land for their own growing population. They have renamed the tract “1492 Land Back Lane.” They say the band council does not represent them. The land is part of an ongoing dispute, which is complex and builds on 500 years of colonization.

Report from #1492LandBackLane land reclamation published to Montreal Counter-Info.

When Haudenosaunee Land Defenders are required to defy injunctions to protect our territories, we are arrested, charged, threatened and incarcerated.

It is a crime to fight for our lands, but we are still fighting. Land defense criminalization is meant to divide families, nations, and allies, in order to scare us into submission.

SHANGHAI (Reuters) – China has added 517 species to its list of major protected wild animals, part of its campaign in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to end the wild animal trade and destruction of habitats.

A joint statement on Friday by the forestry and agriculture ministries said adjusting the list had become “extremely urgent” because of recent changes in China’s wildlife situation. A total of 980 wild animals are now under state protection.

The ministries promised to work with local governments to identify and protect the habitats of the animals added to the list, which include the endangered large-spotted civet and several species of birds that have dwindled in number in recent years.

Those who hunt and traffic the animals face fines and even custodial sentences for “level one” protected species, such as the critically endangered panda, pangolin and Yangtze finless…

Haitian Revolutionaries Intensify Struggle Against US-Backed Moïse Regime

Moise ‘s last day in office was Sunday 7th Feb but he still refuses to step down.

A temporary president has been selected but the US State Department spokesman, Ned Price, on Friday supported Mr. Moïse’s argument that his term ends next February and added that only then “a new elected president should succeed President Moïse.”
This US support condemns Haiti to Civil War over Moise’s disastrous rule.
Haiti is “on the verge of explosion,” the country’s Episcopal bishops say. Many accuse the government of supporting gangs to stay in power as a constitutional crisis looms.

On January 31, hundreds of Haitian revolutionaries took to the streets of several cities in opposition to the US-backed Moïse regime. In the capital, Port-au-Prince, as well as in the cities of Petit-Goave, Mirebalais, Verretes and Saint-Marc, militants blocked major roads and highways with burning tires and stones.
