Act 1 – Linda.
”Poor Linda, discovering her father having an affair with awful Janice in front of an audience. This passage works really well, oscillating between Linda’s horrified embarrassment and her friends hilarity at what’s going on. I could not only visualise this but hear the girls squeals and jeering comments.
‘Oh my god… Maybe I’d killed a saint!’ Really amusing, shows the uncertainty Linda has about religion despite the sister being a right harridan. Daddy’s behaviour towards her isn’t right as Linda is just beginning to understand, thanks to Janice. No wonder she’s so angry.
Vibrant prose with realistic dialogue. Teenaged Linda’s thoughts and actions are nicely observed and come across really well. Who couldn’t like her or fail to empathise with her?”

Beyond Hypocrisy

Head of international tax-evading, sexist, plutocratic child-molestation ring responsible for inquisitions, slavery, genocide and propagation of AIDS urges a “return to morality” for secular leaders. Is there even a word for such disgusting hypocrisy?

Direct Action

Each day there are opportunities for resistance, liberation, freedom, creativity, engagement, and meaning. It is easy to miss these opportunities and get distracted and bogged down by day-to-day hassles — stuck in traffic, staring at the internet, emotionally numb, confused, and feeling disconnected from anything important. There are no easy answers about how to live our lives but

we all make choices about where we put our time, our energy, and our passion. While you can never guarantee the outcome, if you aren’t even putting time and energy on a daily basis into some kind of alternative to the mainstream economic / cultural / political / technological system, your tomorrow is going to end up similar to your today. By contrast, as tough, frustrating and scary as it can be, putting some of your life every day into the counter-culture and alternatives to the system makes a difference — at least in the way you experience your own life.

UGANDA: Kato anti gay Murder

Kato Murder Re-ignites Gay Rights Debate

By Joe Opio *

KAMPALA, Feb 12, 2011 (IPS/INSP) – For the government of Uganda, the timing of David Kato’s death couldn’t have been more unfortunate. Kato was killed on Jan. 26, a national holiday to commemorate the ascent to power of the ruling National Resistance Movement party.

Kato was the face of Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG), an advocacy group actively campaigning against the controversial Anti-Homosexuality Bill.

The international press, foreign governments and gay rights activists have cast Kato’s death as the result of the prevailing climate of homophobia in Uganda; a charge the government refutes.
