After a decade of struggle for conservation of the natural wealth of their territory, the community of San Francisco, Xochicuautla, Mexico State, obtained the definitive suspension of the construction of the Toluca-Naucalpan highway that threatened their forest. Following ten years of various strategies, political and legal, the suspension opposed the presidential decree of 2015 for the expropriation of 37 hectares of the ejido for the construction of the highway.

The infrastructure project was promoted by the then-governor of the State of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto. The company in charge of the construction of the highway, Autopistas de Vanguardia S.A., is part of the Grupo Higa, which sold the so-called “White House” to the wife of the current President of the Republic for seven million pesos, causing a…

The Real Irish American Story Not Taught in Schools

Jaime C.'s avatarCounter Information

irish-famine

By Bill Bigelow

March 18, 2016 “Information Clearing House” – “Zinn Education Project“-  “Wear green on St. Patrick’s Day or get pinched.” That pretty much sums up the Irish-American “curriculum” that I learned when I was in school. Yes, I recall a nod to the so-called Potato Famine, but it was mentioned only in passing.

Sadly, today’s high school textbooks continue to largely ignore the famine, despite the fact that it was responsible for unimaginable suffering and the deaths of more than a million Irish peasants, and that it triggered the greatest wave of Irish immigration in U.S. history. Nor do textbooks make any attempt to help students link famines past and present.

Yet there is no shortage of material that can bring these dramatic events to life in the classroom. In my own high school social studies classes, I begin with Sinead O’Connor’s haunting rendition…

How Anonymous Just Fooled Donald Trump, the Secret Service, and the FBI

Anonymous  just pulled a fast one on Donald Trump, his campaign staff, the Secret Service, and the FBI — in one brilliant and telling fell swoop.

To support the White Rose Society and the White Rose Revolt, which began as a response to fascist leanings by Trump and his supporters, Anonymous launched #OpWhiteRose — and the billionaire presidential hopeful fell right into the ‘trap.’anonymous-but-thats-none-of-my-business

On Friday, Anonymous announced it had released Trump’s personal information online — including such details as his cell phone number and Social Security number. Backlash from the Trump front promptly followed, as well as an announcement from the Secret Service and FBI that an investigation had begun.

However, the information had not been hacked or leaked. In fact, everything Anonymous posted had been online — and available for anyone to see — for years.

It’s arguably not far from the truth.

One case taken up is that of Mercedes and Daria, 2 nurses and sisters who, like very many, were brutally raped and murdered by the Spanish fascists in never before investigated  gender crimes

Rape by prison officers and the Fascist Party of women involved in politics or only for being relatives of men thought to be opponents of the regime; torture of political prisoners with a gender component, insults and blows (in the genital and reproductive areas); massive baby theft; hair shaving, forced poisoning  […]

These are the main methods by which the western tolerated facist regime  specifically repressed women during the war and 40 year long dictatorship in Spain. Scottish Orkney islands whale watching

RK-Seals-at-CofC12

petrel41's avatarDear Kitty. Some blog

This video from Scotland says about itself:

4 December 2014

Orkney is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna all year round. We are perhaps best known for our seabirds and seals, but there are many more species here, including many other birds, the tiny but very elusive Orkney vole and the even tinier Primula scotica.

The Orkney call to eco whale-watchers

Friday 18th March 2016

PETER FROST is off to an archipelago full of spectacular vantage points for a highly rewarding observation of its rich wildlife from puffins to whales and its ancient history

New Zealand, Australia, New England and California are just a few places advertising themselves as holiday destinations at the moment. Most of them make great play of the fact that you can watch whales as part of your holiday.

In fact you don’t need to go that…

El candidato a la presidencia Ted Cruz califica de “fanaticos” a los que se oponen a los productos transgénicos

Senator and Republican candidate for the US presidency Ted Cruz said Saturday in Iowa, the nation must fight generated “hysteria” against genetically modified organisms, saying that these innovations in science should be concluded by the positive impact they have had in the US and abroad.
Speaking at the Agricultural Summit Iowa, Cruz, a member of the Tea Party, he said that GM foods have helped provide millions of people around the world and to strengthen farms across the country.
He said people who oppose GMOs and want to buy organic food can, but that “we must put aside the anti-scientific fanaticism, it impairs the ability to produce quality food at low cost billions all the world”.
Here we have it: the ultra-religious Ted Cruz, serving criminal enterprises such as Monsanto …
