Two sailing boats, Amal and Zaytouna, with 11 women on board each, sailed off on Wednesday evening under the banner “The Women’s Boat to Gaza”.
The passengers, including Swedish European Parliament Member Malin Bjork and Dr Fouzia Hassan of Malaysia, aim to reach Gaza by early October.

“We are carrying food and medicine on the boat that will be distributed to Gazans upon arrival,” Zohar Chamberlain Regev, a spokeswoman of the initiative, told Al Jazeera.
“But mainly we are carrying a message of hope and solidarity, because we think Gazans want that most of all.”
She said she had high hopes that the flotilla would not be stopped by the Israeli navy and reach the destination.
“We know that we are not a threat to Israel. We are not heading to an Israeli port so they have no reason to stop us,” she said.
Amal and Zaitun ships-of-the name, will carry a crew of more than twenty women to Israel under the slogan “Women Sailing to Gaza” on a journey more than two weeks will be extended.

Amal y Zaitun -el nombre de los barcos-, llevarán a una tripulación de más de veinte mujeres a Israel bajo el lema “Mujeres Rumbo a Gaza” en un viaje que se alargará más de dos semanas. Su misión: destacar el papel de las mujeres palestinas que luchan contra la ocupación.
“La justicia al final ganará, el pueblo palestino tiene una capacidad de resistencia admirable, especialmente las mujeres, a pesar de todas las condiciones nefastas que existen”, ha dicho Zoar Chamberlai, una de las tripulantes, en el programa de La Cafetera.
Tienen previsto desembarcar en el puerto de Gaza a principios del mes de octubre. En el camino, pararán en Córcega el día 17 y en el mediterráneo occidental más adelante. Israel ya ha impedido otros años la entrada de la Flotilla de la Libertad en el país, sin embargo, ellas dicen no temer lo que pueda ocurrir.
“No somos una amenaza para el Gobierno israelí, no hay ningún impedimento que nos impida llegar y llevar el mensaje de esperanza, por eso no entendemos por qué el estado tiene que meterse con nosotros”, ha lamentado Zoar.
Entre las mujeres que viajan en los barcos figura la diputada de Unidos Podemos en el Congreso Rosana Pastor, así como la premio Nobel de la Paz irlandesa Mairead Maguire, la eurodiputada de la izquierda sueca Malin Bjork, y la militante de IU Jaldía Abubakra.
Este miércoles, Pastor, portavoz de Podemos en la Comisión de Cooperación Internacional del Congreso, pidió al Gobierno español que “haga todo lo posible” para defender la integridad de todas las mujeres que integran la flotilla en aguas europeas e internacionales.

“Quiero lanzar un llamamiento al Gobierno español para que garantice la seguridad de todas y cada una de las mujeres que forman parte de ‘Rumbo a Gaza’, que haga todo lo posible para que en aguas de jurisdicción internacional y europeas se cumpla la legalidaddefiendan y se respete la integridad de todas las tripulantes” de la flota solidaria, ha emplazado.
Por su parte, el Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y de Cooperación “desaconseja totalmente viajar en cualquier embarcación con destino a Gaza”. “Tratar de entrar en Gaza por mar es extremadamente peligroso para la vida y la integridad física de los participantes en este tipo de iniciativas”, apostilla.
Iniciativas anteriores
El bloqueo israelí contra la Franja de Gaza lleva en vigor desde 2007, cuando el Movimiento de Resistencia Islámica (Hamás) quedó al frente del enclave tras las elecciones de 2006, en las que ganó también en Cisjordania, si bien los resultados fueron criticados y desataron enfrentamientos con Al Fatá.
La última iniciativa de la Flotilla tuvo lugar en 2015, si bien el ‘Marianne de Gotemburgo’ -que partió de Suecia- fue interceptado por la Marina israelí y escoltado al puerto de Ashdod.

Tras ello, el primer ministro israelí, Benjamin Netanyahu, ha recalcó que “la Flotilla no es más que una muestra de hipocresía que sólo ayuda a Hamás, ignorando otras atrocidades en la región”.
En 2010, soldados israelíes llevaron a cabo un ataque contra la primera Flotilla de la Libertad que dejó diez muertos, provocando una crisis diplomática entre los Gobiernos turco e israelí, resuelta recientemente.
