Calais Refugees evicted, burned out.. resistance Continues

Image result for anarchists defend calais refugee campThe Jungle Refugee Camp in Calais, France is being demolished from Links, live stream, articles insideImage result for anarchists defend calais refugee camp

I volunteered with the Help Refugees NGO at the Jungle refugee camp in Calais, France for one month, July 10 to August 10, AMA

The Calais “Jungle” is the nickname given to a refugee and migrant encampment in the vicinity of Calais, France. Many living in this camp attempt to illegally enter the United Kingdom via the Port of Calais or the Eurotunnel by stowing away on lorries, ferries, cars, or trains traveling to the UK. The camp gained global attention during the European refugee and migrant crisis when the population of the camp grew and French authorities carried out evictions. The French government plans to evacuate 6,400 migrants from the encampment in 170 buses, starting on October 24, 2016 with the intent of resettling the migrants in different regions of France.

From wikipedia. It’s wrong though, there’s over 10,000 refugees.

The camp of ten thousand refugees is getting demolished today and the process will last one week, although I suspect it will take much longer.

one thing this article gets wrong is the idea that it’s easier to get asylum in France than the UK. At least before Brexit it was easier to get into the UK. Now however it’s more complicated because of politicsImage result for CRS police violence at calais refugee camp

Huge internet attack to protect Wikileaks could have been far bigger, and it could happen again

On 21 October 2016, major sites across the internet were disabled as a result of a massive DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack by unknown actors. By the end of the day, some extraordinary statements appeared on Twitter. They claimed the attack was in retaliation to events surrounding the fate of WikiLeaks and its founder, Julian Assange. But the attack could have gone on for much longer if WikiLeaks hadn’t made it clear that Assange was not in danger, and asked for an end to the DDoS attack. And unless Assange’s safety is proven, a similar attack could well be on the cards.

Refusal of aid to Haiti shows real level of US humanitarian concern

article-1244225-07e9d54d000005dc-681_634x424The US is happy to spend over $15 million EVERY DAY bombing and droning its enemies in Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, etc, but can’t spare the change, offering  a ridiculous $13 million so far to help desperate Hurricane Matthew victims in Haiti, where it has a clear historic and moral responsibility. As of 6 October 2016 only $1.3 million has been specifically reported for the Hurricane Matthew response in Haiti.

JEREMIE, Haiti – Rickety structures made of sheet metal and scrap wood are clustered along the road to the Haitian city of Jeremie, which still hasn’t seen any aid nearly 3 weeks after Hurricane Matthew.

In a scene that is eerily similar to the devastation in Port-au-Prince after the 2010 earthquake, when hundreds of thousands of survivors had to cram into every available space, families are living in makeshift camps.
