JOURNALIST: I AM FREED BUT THERE ARE 6 CHILDREN IN MY OLD TURKISH PRISON CELL

Journalist Naciye Nur Ener Kılınç, who was released from jail on Tuesday and put under house arrest, said there are six children in the prison cell to which she was confined for 357 days.

“I am free, but there is a 30-day-old infant behind those doors. There are six children in my prison cell. I pray they will be freed soon,” Kılınç said after her release.

In the aftermath of a failed coup attempt on July 15, 2016, more than 17,000 women from all walks of life including teachers, doctors and housewives have been jailed in Turkey on coup charges in government-led operations. There are currently about 700 children accompanying their mothers in Turkish jails.

The İstanbul 26th High Criminal Court on Tuesday released journalist Kılınç, who was jailed on March 5, 2017 over alleged links to the Gülen movement, on condition of house arrest.

According to the report, her next hearing is set for April 19.

Ener was detained by police who raided her house on the night of March 5 and was subsequently arrested by the İstanbul 4th Penal Court of Peace and sent to Bakırköy Women’s Prison in İstanbul.

Ener was arrested based on a letter from an informant who accused her of being a follower of the faith-based Gülen movement and using a smart phone application known as ByLock, which is considered by Turkish authorities to be the top communication tool among followers of the movement.

Although the informant, an old friend of Ener’s, called the journalist and told her that they had reported her to the police because of anger at somebody else and regretted what they did, this was not taken into consideration by the judicial authorities.

In her defense, Ener denied any links to the Gülen movement and using ByLock.

In October, a newly released book on human rights violations in Turkey in the aftermath of a failed coup last year, written by Ener, was banned in Turkish prisons.

Guards in a prison in Turkey seized a copy of the book, titled “Üç Dal Papatya” (Three Daisies), when an inmate’s child brought it as a gift, Yeni Asya reported on Oct. 20.

The book includes letters from victims who were dismissed from their jobs, detained and jailed over alleged links to the Gülen movement, which is accused by the Turkish government of being behind the failed coup.

In order to make the voice of the victims of the Turkish government’s massive human rights violations heard, journalist Ener began to compile the letters to publish as a book early last year. However she was also detained on March 5, 2017 over alleged links to the Gülen movement.

Her colleagues completed the unfinished book and published it while Ener was in prison.

There are now thousands of Turkish desaparecidos in Turkey and foreign countries.A forced disappearance occurs when a person is secretly abducted or imprisoned by a state or political organization or by a third party with the authorization, support, or acquiescence of a state or political organization, followed by a refusal to acknowledge the person’s fate and whereabouts, with the intent of placing the victim outside the protection of the law. A forced disappearance qualifies as a crime against humanity and, thus, is not subject to a statute of limitations.

Often, forced disappearance implies murder. The victim in such a case is abducted, illegally detained and often tortured during interrogation, and killed, with the body hidden. Typically, a murder will be surreptitious, with the corpse disposed of to escape discovery so that the person apparently vanishes. The party committing the murder has plausible deniability, as nobody can provide evidence of the victim’s death.

Disappearing political rivals is also a way for regimes to engender feelings of complicity in populations. The difficulty of publicly fighting a government that murders in secret can result in widespread pretense that everything is normal.

Hizmet has proven that Erdoğan took many billion-euros in bribes and kickbacks.

An engineer told a judge that he will stand trial for his decision to sentence him to seven years in jail on false terror charges: Dear judge, I didn’t get this sentence. You sentenced yourself. When the democracy and the rule of law come to this country one day, you will be responsible for this decision. I will be watching you in this courtroom and spit on your face.

More recently the leader of the regime that was once touted as a model of how Islam and democracy could coexist together has declared that democracy and freedom have no value. However, Erdoğan’s nemesis is USA. A key figure in the December 2013 corruption revelations against the Turkish government is Reza Zarrab, who was bribing Erdoğan and many corrupt ministers to facilitate the export of gold to Iran to break US sanctions.

Zarrab offered his money-laundering services to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei in a 2011 letter, and worked in tandem with Babak Zanjani, who had deep ties to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps.Zanjani is the principle operator of a vast money-laundering scheme that helped Iran to sell upwards of $200 billion of oil in violation of international sanctions. Zarrab and his Turkish political partners, including Erdoğan himself, were instrumental in laundering the proceeds back to Iran through U.S. and Turkish banks.

Prosecutors in Turkey arrested Zarrab on December 17, 2013, on corruption charges involving bribes to four members of Erdogan’s cabinet, including his son-in-law, Berat Albayrak. Erdoğan struck back by firing the prosecutors, police investigators, and judges involved in the probe!

Two months later, five audio tapes of phone conversations between Erdoğan and his son, Bilal, on the day of Zarrab’s arrest, show why Erdogan panicked. In the tapes, posted on line, Erdoğan can be heard instructing his son to remove $1 billion in cash from his home and the homes of family members before the police arrived.

That money was paid to Erdoğan and his family by Zarrab in exchange for allowing Zarrab to launder Iranian oil money through Turkish banks and to buy gold he subsequently shipped to Iran via the United Arab Emirates. By March 2014, Erdoğan ordered Zarrab released from jail and even commended him as a prominent job-creator and philanthropist. Among Zarrab’s charitable gifts was a $4.65 million contribution to a charity run by Erdoğan’s wife, Ermine.
