Viva Joe Strummer!

A *Free Download* of the last ever concert performed by Joe Strummer before his sad death on this day in 2002.

I remember exactly what I was doing when I heard of Joe Strummer’s untimely death. It was Sunday 22nd December 2002 and myself and a mate had spent the whole night listening to Punk records and boozing and carousing at the home of a close friend. In the morning when we were saying goodbye at the door I thought I heard the radio say that Joe Strummer had died. “Bloody hell” (I exclaimed or something stronger) “I think the radio just said Joe Strummer had died”. We all instantly dismissed it as not possible and probably a result of my delirium tremens and all went on our separate ways. It was later that day recovering from an insane hangover the news was confirmed when I saw…

Brazil State Terrorism: Eviction, Repression of 600 families in Rondônia.. and the RE-OCCUPATION!

The following is an unofficial translation of two recent statements from the National Commission of the League of Poor Peasants (LCP) concerning the recent repression and eviction of the peasants from the Tiago dos Santos Camp.

Brazil: URGENT! Military Police Cowardly Surround Tiago dos Santos Camp and Prevent Entry of Supplies – Tribune of the People

Brazil: URGENT! Cowardly Military Police Surround Tiago dos Santos Camp

Down with the Crude Assembly of the Rondônia Government and its Military Police Demonization of Peasants Fighting for Land to Make Evictions, Arrests, and Massacres

LCP’s note to rural and city workers and the general public

Since the early hours of today (October 8) the government of Rondônia (RO) has sent 300 police armed to the teeth to besiege the Tiago dos Santos Camp in Nova Mutum-Paraná, where 600 families, more than 2,400 men, women, and children live. Police officers are shooting at motorcycles or anything that moves in the camp, preventing the entry of anything and even food, when hundreds of children do not drink milk since last Monday, in a real circus of terror.

Five days after the serious events in that region, a succession of events, strong revelations from the peasants of Camp Tiago dos Santos and the very behavior of the monopoly press and mainly of the “brown sites” at the service of the landowners and the gunmen, increasingly unmasking the storm of lies, provocations, accusations, threats, and the gross assembly of the Rondônia government and its military police (MP) to demonize peasant families in their hard struggle for a piece of land to work and survive.

On October 5, the day after the death of the MPs, Sebastião Martins, brother and lawyer of the biggest land grabber in Rondônia, Antônio Martins “Galo Velho (Old Rooster),” filed a petition in court asking for an injunction to remove the more than 600 families, over 2,400 men, women and children, from the Tiago dos Santos Camp. This 57,000 hectare area, stolen and kept unproductive, is the land that peasant families have been fighting for since 2016. Since then, peasants have been attacked by gunmen and removed by judicial decision. One of those who fought for this land, the companion Tiago dos Santos, was assassinated and for that reason, gave his name to the current camp.

In July of this year, the same “Old Rooster” and his brother were arrested for conspiracy, buying false documents to steal public land, and for buying judgements labeling unproductive land as productive, in addition to having blocked more than 300 million reais ($53.4 million US).

‘No evidence’ asymptomatic Covid-19 cases are infectious’ : Wuhan analysis negates lockdowns Strategy

21 Nov, 2020 13:36 / Updated 4 hours ago

A paper that analyzed the results of a massive post-lockdown Covid-19 testing drive that included nearly every eligible resident of Wuhan, China has found no evidence that positive cases without symptoms spread the disease.

The analysis, published in the scientific journal Nature, looked at the results of a screening initiative held between May and June in Wuhan, the city where the first cases of the novel coronavirus were detected in late 2019.

City and even nationwide lockdowns and mask-wearing mandates worldwide have been justified using the argument that even asymptomatic individuals could spread the disease and inadvertently overwhelm health services.

The origins of the virus have yet to be determined, with new studies suggesting that the disease could have been in Italy as early as September last year.  Read more Covid-19 was present in Italy as early as SEPTEMBER 2019, study of lung cancer screenings shows

Uganda: Museveni’s ”Police have a right to kill you”.. 37 shot dead in Bobi Wine ‘Covid Security Breach’

Uganda’s Security Minister Elly Tumwine has backed police action after 37 people were killed on Wednesday and Thursday following clashes with supporters of opposition presidential candidate Bobi Wine.

In a media briefing Mr Tumwine said: Quote Message:
” Police have a right to shoot you and kill you if you reach a certain level of violence. Can I repeat? Police have a right to shoot you and you die for nothing.”

Protests have rocked Uganda since last year, when the government amended the constitution to abolish presidential age limits, allowing President Yoweri Museveni to stay in power indefinitely.

Bobi Wine appeared in court on Friday and has been released on bail after being charged with spreading coronavirus.

Protesters supporting opposition presidential candidate Bobi Wine, seen on placard, gather around the dead body of a man who they claimed had been shot by police but which could not be immediately verified, during clashes with security forces in Kampala, Uganda Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020. He has been accused of failing to adhere to health measures put in place to curb the spread of the virus while campaigning for next year’s election.

In August, Wine’s driver was shot dead, and the lawmaker was beaten and tortured. Wine believes government forces are responsible.

After the beating Bobi was taken to the USA to recover. The US seems to be grooming him as a possible replacement of Museveni.
