The Spanish government is subjected to pressure from the United States on the Sahara and shows clear signs of submission, which compromises the supply of Algerian gas.

Algeria meets 40 percent of Spain’s gas needs and in August it broke diplomatic relations with Morocco, so it cannot admit that the PSOE and Podemos government fraudulently resells Algerian gas to Morocco. In Madrid they go from betrayal to betrayal and show no scruples of any kind.

Yesterday the Algerian Ministry of Energy threatened to break the gas supply contract with Spain if it sends it “to a third destination”, amid diplomatic tensions with Madrid and Morocco over the Sahara.

Most of the Algerian gas reaches Spain through the Medgaz submarine gas pipeline, of 10,000 million cubic meters per year. Until October, another part of the Algerian gas arrived through the Maghreb-Europe Gas Pipeline (GME), which passes through Morocco.

But Algiers closed it after the rupture of diplomatic relations with Rabat, depriving Morocco of the Algerian gas that transited through its territory.

According to a press release from the Algerian government, the Spanish Minister Teresa Ribera has announced that Spain authorizes the exploitation, in “reverse flow”, of the Maghreb-Europe oil pipeline and that this exploitation will take place today or tomorrow.

The statement did not specify the name of the country that would benefit from this “reverse flow” operation, but in February the Spanish government announced that it would help Rabat “guarantee its energy security” by allowing it to transport gas through the GME after Algiers left to supply it.

The Algerian government has warned that any shipment of the gas supplied to Spain, whose destination is different from that foreseen in the contracts, will be considered a breach of the contractual commitments and, consequently, could lead to the termination of the contract that links Sonatrach with Spain.

This warning comes in the context of increasingly pressing pressure from the United States against European countries, which has led the Spanish government to a dead end on the Sahara issue.

Former Spanish colony, this vast desert area considered a “non-autonomous territory” by the UN, has been opposing Morocco – which controls 80 percent – to the Saharawi people for decades.

El gobierno español está sometido a las presiones de Estados Unidos sobre el Sáhara y da muestras claras de sumisión, lo que compromete el suministro de gas argelino.

Argelia satisface el 40 por cien de las necesidades de gas de España y en agosto rompió sus relaciones diplomáticas con Marruecos, por lo que no puede admitir que el gobierno del PSOE y Podemos revenda el gas argelino a Marruecos fraudulentamente. Según un comunicado de prensa del gobierno argelino, la ministra española Teresa Ribera ha comunicado que España autoriza la explotación, en “flujo inverso”, del oleoducto Magreb-Europa y que esta explotación tendrá lugar hoy o mañana.

El comunicado no especificaba el nombre del país que se beneficiaría de esta operación de “flujo inverso”, pero en febrero el gobierno español anunció que ayudaría a Rabat a “garantizar su seguridad energética” permitiéndole transportar gas a través del GME después de que Argel dejara de suministrárselo.

El gobierno argelino ha advertido que cualquier envío del gas suministrado a España, cuyo destino sea distinto al previsto en los contratos, se considerará un incumplimiento de los compromisos contractuales y, en consecuencia, podría dar lugar a la rescisión del contrato que vincula a Sonatrach con España.

Esta advertencia se produce en el contexto de las presiones cada vez más acuciantes de Estados Unidos contra los países europeos, lo que ha llevado al gobierno español a un callejón sin salida en la cuestión del Sáhara.

Antigua colonia española, esta vasta zona desértica considerada como “territorio no autónomo” por la ONU, opone desde hace décadas a Marruecos -que controla el 80 por cien- al pueblo saharaui.

España, que depende en gran medida de Argel para el suministro de gas, dio un giro radical a su posición en este delicado asunto el 18 de marzo, al apoyar públicamente el proyecto de autonomía marroquí y despertar la ira de Argel, principal valedor de los saharahuis.
