350 stands with our movement allies, and we will not back down.

Breaking news: It was revealed this week that 350.org was targeted by a private security company during the Standing Rock resistance to the Dakota Access pipeline in 2016.

The pipeline, which runs from the Bakken oil fields in western North Dakota to southern Illinois, crosses beneath the Missouri and Mississippi rivers and under Lake Oahe, and is in close proximity to the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.

Tigerswan was the private security firm hired by the Dakota Access Pipeline’s parent company, Energy Transfer. The resistance led by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe was supported by a coalition of environmental and human rights organizations, with the Indigenous defenders uniting under the title of Water Protectors.

The resistance was backed by a diverse group of allies whose determination and connection to defending the sacred land and water was palpable. It went beyond just trying to stop DAPL – it was a frontier that harnessed the intersectional opposition to decades of colonial exploitation and extraction.

This is what they had to say about us:

“350 dot org’s ability to bring global attention to the dapL protest via their network of supporters and their media concerns represents a significant concern for Tigerswan and their client. 350 dot org’s ability to mobilize large groups of people is also of significant concern. They are unlikely to remove themselves from the protestors groups because their goals align perfectly with the Standing Rock Sioux tribe. They have a track record of success and should only be engaged after significant preparation.”

“We need to always be very clear that the industry knows what a risk the climate movement is,” said May Boeve, the executive director of 350.org in response.

The surveillance and intimidation of environmental activists has been a concerning trend for some years now. Activists across the world, especially those in countries with shrinking democratic spaces to express opposition such as the Philippines, parts of Africa and Latin America, need to be protected.

In Barrick Gold’s 2021 Human Rights Report, President and CEO Mark Bristow stated that “recognizing and respecting human rights have long been a fundamental value for Barrick.” But communities impacted by Barrick operations globally – in the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Tanzania, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Pakistan, and in the United States – present a different, somber truth: Barrick seemingly systemically ignores community concerns about the violence of its operations on their land, water, and lives.

Last year, communities affected by Barrick’s operations in Argentina, the Dominican Republic, and Papua New Guinea came together to share their personal experiences of human rights abuse and environmental harm. They shared their struggle to hold Barrick, the world’s second-largest gold mining company, accountable.

We continue to lift up their voices and the voices of other Barrick-affected communities in Tanzania, Philippines, the United States, and Pakistan. Join us during two weeks of action against Barrick, through April 30!

Researchers found short-chain chlorinated paraffins, or SCCPs — a group of cancer-causing chemicals used in metalworking and the production of PVC, plastics, rubbers and other materials — in a wide array of household products, according to a study published Tuesday in Environmental Science: Processes & Impacts.

Banned chemicals that potentially cause cancer in humans have been discovered in a wide array of household products, according to a study published in the journal Environmental Science: Processes & Impacts.

Short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) are a group of chemicals that are used in metalworking and the production of PVC, plastics, rubbers and other materials.

They are persistent chemicals, meaning they don’t degrade in the environment and accumulate in animals. Chlorinated paraffins have been detected in various wildlife and in human milk and blood.

The new study shows that SCCPs are still widely present in household goods despite bans on the chemicals, indicating the need for more regulatory action. Researchers found SCCPs in 84 of 96 household goods tested in Canada.

Religious Fascists Poisoning 1000’s of Revolutionary Girls – Iran/Rojhilat

Scared by women’s revolution in Iran the State allows misogynist terrorists to make war on rebel schoolgirls with dozens more poison gas attacks on their schools.

from thefreeonline on 19th April 2023 by Hengaw.net / @Starr Congress / Jinha Agency

The chemical attacks targeting 20 more schools in multiple cities in Iran spark concerns

The Rojava Revolution has spread to Iran, clashing with state sponsored repression of women expressed in waves of poison gas attacks on revolutionary girls by cowardly men fearful of losing their 1000 year old privileges

The Rojava example still survives among multiple enemies, with a strong anti capitalist co-op movement and joint women’s leadership. There are Arab, Azadi and Syriac women’s militias within the broad SDF defense coalition and Kurdish women guerillas fight in Turkey, Iraq and Iran.

But it is the inspiring Jineoloji women’s ideology that has spread like wildfire to neighbouring countries and also to groups around the world. The YPJ (Women’s Protection Units) were organised, to the horror of Patriarchal Regimes, and began to free themselves, their families, communities, and homeland from ISIS and medieval style abuse. see slso: Organizing Transformed Spaces: Kurdish Women, Jineoloji and Rojava

As with other Kurdish movements, the recent uprising known as ‘Jina’s Revolution’ (after ) inside Iran, with the Kurdish slogan of Jin, Jîyan, Azadî (Women, Life, Freedom), has been making headlines for months and has strong roots in the Kurdish people’s long history of freedom struggles.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has a reputation for being one of the most misogynistic and anti-woman in the world, depriving women of their most fundamental human rights both by the state and within society.

Iran was freed from a the murderous British and US sponsored dictatorship by a fundamentalist Iranian Revolution in 1979. Ever since it has been constantly attacked, subverted, blockaded and severely sanctioned by the US and allies which covet its oil resources.

In reply Iran has been unfortunately controlled by a militarized autocratic regime using religion and heavy repression to defend itself and control its 17 unique ethnic minority cultures.

This regime has been specifically targeting the Kurdish majority area of Rojhilat ( Eastern Kurdistan NW Iran) because of their long-standing opposition to the central Iranian state.

The successful ideas of the Rojava Revolution in N Syria have spread to the Rojhilat resistance, especially to women, and it was here that the death in custody of a Kurdish women, Jina Amini for not wearing religious clothing sparked a women-led protest movement that has swept the whole country.

Hengaw: Monday, April 17, 2023

One of the students of Tarawat School, whose name is withheld by Hengaw, said in this regard: ‘One hour before the chemical attack, 12 passengers in three cars entered the schoolyard and locked the exit door. Two of these forces went to the janitor’s room and then collected all the CCTV cameras, and took them with them at the end’.  She added: ‘All these people were wearing masks and after they left, symptoms of poisoning and nausea appeared in the students’.
