After the action against the Intercontinental hotel due to its link with The District, today around 200 people gathered at half past nine in the morning at the exit of the Europa Fira de l’Hospitalet de Llobregat railway station.
When they managed to overcome a police cordon, the mobilization made its way to the fences that surround the compound.

It was nine in the morning and there were still 45 minutes to go before the start of the second edition of a real estate summit attended by 1,200 investors from the likes of Blackstone, Blackrock or Azora – the founders of which have been awarded.
Four vans from the ARRO Metropolitana Sud of the Mossos d’Esquadra shielded the Fair from the gates of the site and five vans from the Mobile Brigade did it from the street.
Despite trying to find a crack in the police armor, unlike last year, the activists have not been able to access the interior. As participants and visitors were arriving, the slides started. Dressed in frogs and masks, some activists threw colored powder at them and shouted: “speculators”.
Among the people dyed in blue, they paraded Jordi Moix, manager of Talus Real Estate and LinQventure, as well as economic vice-president on the Barça board of Josep Maria Bartomeu; o Anna Hernández Bonancia, director of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area Economic Development Agency and wife of former president José Montilla (PSC).
While a real estate entrepreneur has begun to dialogue, there has been another who has thrown an activist into a pool of water and a third has kicked a girl. The police were escorting an assistant to the entrance, when an accredited journalist from La Mosca TV had a small encounter with an officer and another anti-riot officer jumped on top of her and pinned her to the ground, causing her a face injury.
While she was being taken inside the injured compound to be treated by an ambulance, there was a police charge. The South Metropolitan Police Region of the Mossos d’Esquadra has confirmed to Directa that there is a person arrested at the Hospitalet de Llobregat police station, accused of public disorder, but did not want to specify if it was the journalist.
However, those close to the victim have been able to speak with her, confirming that she is in police custody. She was finally released at quarter past ten in the evening.

Shortly after, the photojournalist who was collaborating with Directa and the Bloomberg agency, Àngel Garcia, was held behind bars and identified. The agent demanded that he had to wear the press armband, when precisely, in March, the Department of the Interior and several collectives of information professionals signed a protocol so that the use of armbands and vests in risky situations it is recommended but not mandatory.
While he was being held, the head of the device – who has refused to identify himself – suggested to the agent that he review Garcia’s photographs, who, in the face of the professional’s complaints, gave up. As a result of these events, and even though he had the accreditation of the organization, The District has denied him access to the summit.
Ready to “play”
The protest against The District has not managed to cross the walls of the fairgrounds, but it has caused a delay of one hour. What the bright panels announced did not agree with what was performed inside the auditoriums and some attendees were bewildered.
Among an obvious majority of men in suits and ties, there was no longer a trace of the colored dust, but what had happened did float in the air. One was angry that they had been called speculators and another, indignant, called the demonstrators ill-mannered.

In any case, in The District we are not going to talk about what happens on the street, but about investments, opportune business conditions, profits and risk.
That is why all the essential links are represented: high-ranking investment fund managers, large real estate corporations, banks, financial services companies, consultants, brokers and some law firms, such as Garrigues, which specialize in the real estate market.
Surprisingly, the first thing you find when you pass the welcome arch is a giant display of the Community and the City Council of Madrid, which offer the city to investors.
All presentations are in English, aimed at global investors, and radiate optimism. Xavier Güell, director of CBR Spain, poses a question in one of the first sessions: “is the real estate game really over?”.
To answer that no, that “we are ready to play this incredible game”, he shows the public some graphs that indicate the residential, hotel and health care sectors as the sectors that are gaining the most weight.
In fact, the director of BlackRock Spain, Adolfo Favieres, downplays it a little more and considers the arrival of international students and the elderly as an opportunity. The conference on “affordable” housing does not lack criticism of any price regulation policy. Under the argument that doing so limits the supply, Juan Gómez, director of southern Europe at Deutsche Finance International, finishes his final speech.
Between conference and conference and between so many ties, only the cleaning workers of the Clece company, a subsidiary of the ACS Group, which also does business with the care of the elderly and dependents, are “out of tune”.
Precisely, an area where an organizer of The District also sees room for improvement: “among the investment sectors, that of the elderly is very important”, in a context of an aging population.

In addition to Eduardo Mendiluce as a speaker, Blackstone has an exhibit behind the Anticipa and Aliseda real estate brands. Throughout the pavilion, JLL, CBRE, Elix, Brookfield, TPG or King Street Capital Management, and banks such as Banc Santander, CaixaBank or Banc Sabadell are also exhibited. Beyond Madrid, the Catalan government, the Barcelona city council and the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) are also represented there through the Barcelona Catalonia initiative, a project to attract investments.
The decision of the organization to change the location of the summit after the irruption of the activists last year, has not prevented the campaign, which brings together more than forty collectives, unions and platforms, from made behind a banner that read: “Fuck The District”.

Després de l’acció contra l’hotel Intercontinental pel seu vincle amb The District, avui unes 200 persones s’han citat a dos quarts de nou del matí a la sortida de l’estació de ferrocarrils Europa Fira de l’Hospitalet de Llobregat. Quan han aconseguit superar un cordó policial, la mobilització s’ha obert pas fins a les tanques que perimetren el recinte. Eren les nou del matí i encara faltaven 45 minuts perquè arrenqués la segona edició d’una cimera immobiliària on participen 1.200 inversors de la talla de Blackstone, Blackrock o Azora -els fundadors del qual han estat premiats.
Quatre furgonetes de l’ARRO Metropolitana Sud dels Mossos d’Esquadra blindaven la Fira des de les portes del recinte i cinc furgons de la Brigada Mòbil ho feien des del carrer. Tot i intentar trobar una escletxa en el blindatge policial, a diferència de l’any passat, les activistes no han pogut accedir a l’interior. A mesura que participants i visitants anaven arribant, han començat les corredisses. Vestides amb granotes i màscares, algunes activistes els llançaven pols de colors i els escridassaven: “especuladors”.

Mentre que un empresari immobiliari s’ha posat a dialogar, n’hi ha hagut un altres que ha llançat una activista a dins una bassa d’aigua i un tercer que ha etzibat una puntada de peu a una noia. La policia escortava un assistent fins a l’accés, quan una periodista acreditada de La Mosca TV ha tingut una petita topada amb una agent i un altre antiavalot se li ha llançat al damunt i l’ha placat contra el terra, provocant-li una lesió a la cara. Mentre se l’enduien dins el recinte ferida perquè l’atengués una ambulància, s’ha produït una càrrega policial. La Regió Policial Metropolitana Sud dels Mossos d’Esquadra ha confirmat a la Directa que hi ha una persona detinguda a la comissaria de l’Hospitalet de Llobregat, acusada de desordres públics, però no ha volgut especificar si es tracta de la periodista. Tanmateix, l’entorn de l’afectada ha pogut parlar amb ella, confirmant que es troba en dependències policials. Ha quedat en llibertat a quarts de deu del vespre.
Poc després, el fotoperiodista que estava col·laborant amb la Directa i amb l’agència Bloomberg, Àngel Garcia, ha estat retingut rere les tanques i identificat. L’agent li ha exigit que havia de dur el braçal de premsa, quan precisament, el mes de març, el departament d’Interior i diversos col·lectius de professionals de la informació van signar un protocol perquè l’ús de braçalets i armilles en situacions de risc sigui recomanable però no obligatori. Mentre era retingut, el cap del dispositiu –que s’ha negat a identificar-se– ha suggerit a l’agent que revisés les fotografies de Garcia, qui davant les queixes del professional ha desistit. Arran d’aquests fets, i tot i que comptava amb l’acreditació de l’organització, The District li ha denegat l’accés a la cimera.
Preparats per “jugar”
La protesta contra The District no ha aconseguit travessar els murs del recinte firal, però sí que ha provocat un retard d’una hora. El que anunciaven els lluminosos panells no concordava amb el que es performava a dins els auditoris i alguns assistents es mostraven desconcertats.
Entre una evident majoria d’homes amb vestit i corbata, ja no hi havia ni rastre de la pols de colors, però sí que flotava en l’aire el que havia passat. Un s’enreia de què els hagin titllat d’especuladors i un altre, indignat, titllava els manifestants de mal educats.
En tot cas, a The District no s’hi va a parlar del que passa al carrer, sinó d’inversions, oportunitats de negoci, beneficis i risc. Per això hi ha representades totes les baules imprescindibles: alts càrrecs de fons d’inversió, grans corporacions immobiliàries, banca, empreses de serveis financers, consultores, brokers i algun despatx d’advocats, com Garrigues, especialitzat en mercat immobiliari. Sorprèn que el primer que trobes quan passes l’arc de benvinguda és un exhibidor gegant de la Comunitat i l’Ajuntament de Madrid, que ofereixen la ciutat als inversors.

Totes les ponències són en anglès, dirigides als inversors globals, i irradien optimisme. Xavier Güell, director de CBR Espanya, llança una pregunta en una de les primeres sessions: “el joc immobiliari s’ha acabat realment?”. Per respondre que no, que “estem preparats per jugar a aquest joc increïble”, mostra al públic unes gràfiques que assenyalen el residencial, l’hoteler i el de l’atenció sanitària com els sectors que més pes estan guanyant.
De fet, el director de BlackRock Espanya, Adolfo Favieres, ho aterra una mica més i considera l’arribada d’estudiants internacionals i la tercera edat com una oportunitat. A la conferència sobre habitatge “assequible” no falta la crítica a qualsevol política de regulació de preus. Sota l’argument que fer-ho limita l’oferta, Juan Gómez, director del sud d’Europa de Deutsche Finance Internacional, remata la seva intervenció final.
Entre conferència i conferència i entre tanta corbata, només “desentonen” les treballadores de la neteja de l’empresa Clece, una filial del Grup ACS, que també fa negoci amb les cures de gent gran i dependent. Precisament, un terreny on un organitzador de The District també veu camp per recórrer: “entre els sectors d’inversió és molt important el de la tercera edat”, en un context de població envellida.
A més d’Eduardo Mendiluce com a ponent, Blackstone té exhibidor darrere la marca de les immobiliàries Anticipa i Aliseda. Al llarg de tot el pavelló, també s’exhibeixen JLL, CBRE, Elix, Brookfield, TPG o King Street Capital Management, i banca com Banc Santander, CaixaBank o Banc Sabadell. Més enllà de Madrid, el govern català, l’ajuntament de Barcelona i l’Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) també hi estan representats a través de la iniciativa Barcelona Catalonia, un projecte per atreure inversions.
La decisió de l’organització de canviar la ubicació de la cimera després de la irrupció de les activistes l’any passat, no ha evitat que la campanya, que aglutina més d’una quarantena de col·lectius, sindicats i plataformes, s’hagi fet sentir rere una pancarta que etzivava: “Fuck The District”.
