Rojava defiant as artillery, drones strike Kobani -Turkish occupation large-scale attack on Tishreen Dam – FAILED
Convoys transporting concrete fortifications intended for the establishment of a US base arrived today (Thursday) in the northern Syrian citry of Kobani, a Kurdish militia stronghold located near the Turkish border. . Kobani has become a symbol of Kurdish resistance against the terrorist organization ISIS.
The Turkish dictator Erdogan financed, protected and trained the Al Qaeda HTS in Idlib and knew for months ahead of the planned breakout which ended up toppling the 50 year old Assad Regime.
Despite economic mayhem at home Turkey spent 2023 boosting HTS in Idlib, and especially arming the SNA, its large network of Islamic terrorist mercenary militias.
The SNA ‘head choppers’ are multiple militia left overs financed by Turkey, and originally by Arab states and the US in the Syrian civil war. These militias include ex Al Qaeda, ISIS and worse and have been settled in the Kurdish and multi ethnic homelands invaded, with western silence, and ethnically cleansed by Turkey in Afrin, Sabha, Serekineye strip, and Al Bab..
The SNA militias receive minimum wages from Turkiye and survive by looting, extortion, kidnappings and western aid.

The resistance against the Turkey’s backed mercenaries is continuing. A YPG veteran Karim Franceschi stated: «The deployment of SDF elite units has shifted the momentum. Turkey’s backed SNA forces are in full retreat. Heavy casualties, key axes collapsing. The liberation of Manbij is now imminent.».

Turkiye has worked to train, arm and coordinate them and used them as attack dogs against the hated Rojava Revolution with its communal, horizontal organisation and women’s emancipation SNA ideology, the exact opposite of SNA ideology.
In December 2024, as the Assad regime finally fell apart. Erdogan took the opportunity to let loose his SNA mercenary terrorists to loot and destroy the Shebha enclave, which was just a giant isolated internal refugee camp of Kurdish families expelled from their homes and lands by the Turkish invasion of Afrin in 2019.
A column of Rojava SDF defenders broke through Turkish controlled territory and rescued over 100,000 people from Shehba in convoys, attacked day and night on the way and welcomed into the AANES revolution, though thousands more were, murdered, abducted or enslaved.
On 7th December, the same day that the Assad family fled Syria after 54 years in power, pro-Turkish puppets heavily attacked Manbij, symbol of the Rojava Revolution which was saved for the 3rd time from the rampaging Turkish backed SNA jihadis..

With Turkish/NATO drone and heavy artillery support the SNA militias began conducting heavy attacks against SDF positions near Tishreen Dam, but met strong resistance by the SDF, especially the women’s YPJ brigade and have so far failed to cross to nearby Kobani despite repeated ongoing battles and damage to the dam itself.
Meanwhile in Kobani defenders arrived from throughout Rojava following the general mobilisation call by the Democratic AANES administration, and the city again became a beehive of military and social preparation

Originally back in 2014 when ISIS forces were sweeping across Syria and arrived at Kobani city with Turkish support the mainly Kurdish population fought back house to house in a losing battle. Finally the international coalition against ISIS. US and French jets helped turn the tide, ISIS began a long retreat, and Kobani survived to be rebuilt from the rubble and become a shining symbol of the Rojava Revolution.

Later a federation of multi ethnic militias joined the Kurdish defenders to form the SDF, now with over 100,000 female and male, Arab, Kurdish Syriac, Azidi, Christian and International brigades.
The victorious SDF eventually took back the whole of NE Syria, expelling ISIS, including Manbij, Qamishlo, Deir es Zor..etc.. and Raqqa the ISIS Caliphate Capital itself.
The western Coalition against ISIS largely fell apart but the US kept its bases, and urged on by Donald Trump, especially the Arabic oil rich Iraqi border area of Deir ez Zor.
The US misused the SDF to police its occupation in Deir ez Zor , but did NOT support the Rojava revolution (AANES) and stood idly by, betraying its SDF allies or even helped Turkey in its illegal genocidal invasions, ethnic cleansing and occupations of Afrin and the Border Strip etc, (a far cry from its outrage at Russian invasion of ethnic Russian land in Ukraine)..
As the Assad Regime collapsed Russian peace keeping forces returned to base opening Northern Syria to Erdogan’s deadly machinations.-to grab a third of Syria and destroy the loathsome Rojava Revolution. The US was reported to have a mere 800 troops in Syria, then upped to just 2000.
Erdogan, boasting that, with the Russians gone, he would ‘Bury the Kurds’, piled up armies on the border and repeatedly warned the US not to interfere. Turkish officials said their goal is to wipe out the YPG, a Kurdish self defense militia which is the largest and original constituent of the SDF
In defense of humanity: Internationalists in Italy honored Şehîd Ronahî Yekta (Arşîn Hisên) , one of the revolutionary women killed countering the attacks of the Turkey-backed mercenaries on Rojava. For over 20 days the fighters of the YPJ and QSD are resisting against the occupation of Turkish fascism at the Euphrates front.
Nevertheless large US ‘supply convoys’ began to enter from Iraq and on 2nd January an image shared by Syrian Observatory for Human Rights showed a US convoy carrying construction materials and logistical reinforcements heading to Kobani.
Construction on Washington’s new military base will reportedly begin on Friday. “More military reinforcements such as soldiers, weapons, armored vehicles, radars, and anti-aircraft weapons will be brought [later on],” the SOHR report states.
At a time when Turkey is warning the US to end its support for Syrian Kurds, the US and its coalition partners appear to be heading in the opposite direction. The US is reportedly building a new military base in the Kurdish-majority city of Kobani, right on the Turkish border.
The fierce battle continues nearby with the SNA and Turkey conducting heavy attacks against SDF positions in order to cross the Euphrates at the Tishreen Dam and enter Kobani. Over 200 SDF fighters have been killed so far.
The US-led coalition has entered the city of Kobani (Kobanê, which is a slap in the face of Turkish NATO ally and will bolster hopes that a massacre by NATO’s 2nd largest army may be avoided and the Turkish-backed invasion by Syrian National Army (SNA) forces might be stopped.
The new US base is a clear warning to its own Turkish NATO to curb its imperialist genocidal ambitions and rein in its mercenary proxies, especially with the general Rojava mobilisation vowing to defend the city in tunnels and house by house, Gaza style.
Other critics point out that the US has 0ver 800 bases worldwide and has no qualms in financing an all out Genocide on the neighbouring Palestinian people.
The US convoy reportedly brought concrete foundations, anti aircraft batteries, nradar positions and artillery for their new base being set up in central Kobani.
The US is in Syria for close fire points to Iran, as an extension of its Iraqi operations, to provide bombing intel and possible infiltration for its Israeli ally, and for the limited oil resources.
By standing up to Turkey, which also has a large illegal occupation and multiple military bases it may even hope to gain favour in the rest of Syria if HTS turns against its Turkish sponsor
The SDF ideology is strongly anti Israel and the US empire, yet Rojava is forced to rely on US defense as Turkey, Iran, HTS/Syria, Israel and the Arab states vow to annihilate the only beacon of hope in the Middle East.

Tekoşîna Anarşîst is an anarchist organization that has been fighting in Rojava since 2017, when it was formed. We came together to give collective answers to the questions and hopes that brought many of us here, to support and to defend this revolution. This forced us to reflect about our dynamics and our history, not just as individuals or as organization, but also as a movement. Coming together from different places and different anarchist traditions created some challenges for us, but it also opened opportunities to develop more diverse and comprehensive analysis and perspectives. This allowed us to reflect on strengths and shortcomings of the movements we come from, as well as ways to improve.
