Last Friday, October 24th, thousands of residents of Vallecas took to the streets to demand the right to decent housing and express their rejection of the violence perpetrated by so-called “eviction” companies.

The demonstration, organized by CGT Metal Madrid (anarchist Union branch) along with social movements and neighborhood associations, marched through Puente de Vallecas under the slogan “Vallekas for decent housing. Out with the eviction gangs from our neighborhoods.”

The trigger for the protest was the serious events that occurred on October 14th, when a group of men linked to the company APD Security Iberia attempted to evict a person from their home on Leonor González Street without a court order.

They then proceeded to the La Fábrika public gym, where they burst in shouting “reds, faggots” and clashed with neighbors and club members. The police arrested nine members of the security company and seven people from the neighborhood.

La Fábrika, which has been open in the neighborhood for fifteen years, reported that this was not an isolated incident, but rather a new episode of harassment by these companies, who had already attempted to intimidate residents in previous weeks.

“They came armed with sticks, stones, and extendable batons. Boxing classes for children were about to start at that moment,” the club stated, describing their response as an act of neighborhood defense.

The Regional Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Madrid (FRAVM) has demanded that the actions of these companies not be normalized, considering them paramilitary groups that violate fundamental rights.

“We cannot allow the eviction mafias to operate in our neighborhoods with total impunity,” they denounced.

Friday’s massive demonstration once again demonstrated the strong social and solidarity fabric of Vallekas, where the right to housing and the defense of the neighborhood remain pillars of its identity.

Amid banners, chants, and cries of unity, the message was clear: the streets belong to the neighborhood, not the mafias.

El pasado viernes 24 de octubre, miles de vecinos y vecinas de Vallecas salieron a las calles para reclamar el derecho a una vivienda digna y mostrar su repulsa ante la violencia ejercida por las llamadas empresas de “desokupación”. La manifestación, convocada por CGT Metal Madrid junto a movimientos sociales y asociaciones del barrio, recorrió Puente de Vallecas bajo el lema “Vallekas por la vivienda digna. Fuera mafias de desokupación de nuestros barrios”.

El detonante de la protesta fueron los graves sucesos ocurridos el 14 de octubre, cuando un grupo de hombres vinculados a la empresa APD Security Iberia intentó desalojar sin orden judicial a una persona de su vivienda en la calle Leonor González. Posteriormente, se dirigieron al gimnasio popular La Fábrika, donde irrumpieron al grito de “rojos, maricones” y se enfrentaron con vecinos y miembros del club. La policía detuvo a nueve

Desde La Fábrika, que lleva quince años abierta en el barrio, se denunció que no se trató de un hecho aislado, sino de un nuevo episodio de acoso por parte de estas empresas, que ya habían intentado intimidar a vecinos en semanas anteriores. “Vinieron armados con palos, piedras y porras extensibles. En ese momento iban a comenzar las clases de boxeo para niños”, señalan desde el club, calificando su respuesta como un acto de defensa vecinal.

La Federación Regional de Asociaciones Vecinales de Madrid (FRAVM) ha exigido que no se normalice la actuación de estas compañías, a las que considera grupos paramilitares que vulneran derechos fundamentales. “No podemos permitir que las mafias de la desokupación operen en nuestros barrios con total impunidad”, denuncian.

La multitudinaria manifestación del viernes evidenció, una vez más, el fuerte tejido social y solidario de Vallekas, donde el derecho a la vivienda y la defensa del barrio siguen siendo pilares de su identidad. Entre pancartas, cánticos y gritos de unidad, el mensaje fue claro: las calles son del vecindario, no de las mafias.
