US ‘urges’ countries to withdraw from UN nuke ban treaty to block imminent ratification

By EDITH M. LEDERER today.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The United States is ‘urging’ countries that have ratified a U.N. treaty to ban nuclear weapons to withdraw their support as the pact nears the 50 ratifications needed to trigger its entry into force, which 122 countries hope could happen this week.

This image taken with a slow shutter speed on Oct. 2, 2019, and provided by the U.S. Air Force shows an unarmed Minuteman 3 intercontinental ballistic missile test launch at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.

The U.S. letter to signatories, obtained by The Associated Press, says the five original nuclear powers — the U.S., Russia, China, Britain and France — and America’s NATO allies “stand unified in our opposition to the potential repercussions” of the treaty.

It says the treaty “turns back the clock on verification and disarmament and is dangerous” to the half-century-old Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, considered the cornerstone of global nonproliferation efforts.

Fihn dismissed the nuclear powers’ claim that the treaty interferes with the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty as “straightforward lies, to be frank.”

“Although we recognize your sovereign right to ratify or accede to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), we believe that you have made a strategic error and should withdraw your instrument of ratification or accession,” the letter says.

Fihn said there are about 10 countries that are trying very hard to ratify to get to 50, “and we know that there are a few governments that are working towards Friday as the date. … We’re not 100 percent it will happen, but hopefully it will.”

Google Giving ‘Keyword Searches’ of Innocent People to Cops – Court Records

How to Permanently Delete Your Google Search History

Everyone reading this knows that there are few things on the internet more revealing than their internet search data. It is for this reason that police must seek out a warrant for an actual suspect in order to obtain said data.

However, a recently unsealed court document found that government can request such data in reverse order by asking Google to disclose everyone who searched a keyword rather than for information on a known suspect.

To spell it out more clearly, authorities can simply pick a search term and construct a warrant around it without anyone being accused of a crime or being a suspect in a crime, and then Google will simply over their data. What could possibly go wrong?

Google is giving data to police based on search keywords

The court files in question that exposed this Orwellian nightmare are from the arrest of Michael Williams, an associate of singer and accused sex offender R. Kelly, for allegedly setting fire to a witness’ car in Florida.

Who Wants To Hunt a Billionaire? (TV Pitch)

By Ann Narkeh

A TV Pitch:

Each week we kidnap a different billionaire* and drop them on a deserted island with some basic survival tools.
Our contestants then hunt and kill the billionaire**.
Each episode concludes with a communal meal of roasted billionaire***.

Here are the opening credits, which are entirely original and not in any way derivative. Any resemblance to pre-exisiting TV shows is purely coincidental.

Here they are again as a .gif:

Reckon I need about £10 billion to make the pilot but once that one’s done each subsequent episode should get cheaper, ‘cos we’ll be expropriating and redistributing each billionaires’ wealth as we go.
