Record oil profits, as they kill millions.. trash planet..

The World Health Organization states that 2.4 million people die each year from causes directly attributable to air pollution

The health effects caused by air pollution may include difficulty in breathing, wheezing, coughing and aggravation of existing respiratory and cardiac conditions. These effects can result in increased medication use, increased doctor or emergency room visits, more hospital admissions and premature death. The human health effects of poor air quality are far reaching, but principally affect the body’s respiratory system and the cardiovascular system. Individual reactions to air pollutants depend on the type of pollutant a person is exposed to, the degree of exposure, the individual’s health status and genetics.

A new economic study of the health impacts and associated costs of air pollution in the Los Angeles Basin and San Joaquin Valley of Southern California shows that more than 3800 people die prematurely (approximately 14 years earlier than normal) each year because air pollution levels violate federal standards. The number of annual premature deaths is considerably higher than the fatalities related to auto collisions in the same area, which average fewer than 2,000 per year.[19]

Diesel exhaust (DE) is a major contributor

Diesel exhaust (DE) is a major contributor to combustion derived particulate matter air pollution. In several human experimental studies, using a well validated exposure chamber setup, DE has been linked to acute vascular dysfunction and increased thrombus formation.[20][21] This serves as a plausible mechanistic link between the previously described association between particulate matter air pollution and increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.

BP made profits of $5.3bn (£3.2bn) in the three months to 30 June as higher oil prices offset lower production.

In the first quarter of 2011, BP made a profit of $5.5bn.

BP has sold $25bn worth of assets – partly to pay for the clean-up operation in the Gulf.

The oil firm’s chief executive, Bob Dudley has been criticised by some greedy immoral  investors for failing to increase production.

In May BP abandoned a proposed deal with Russian’s Rosneft to exploit oil reserves in the Arctic.

“Other companies have clearly re-defined their strategies over the last 12 to 24 months,” said Dougie Youngson a criminal oil analyst at Arbuthnot.

Exxonmobil continues to build it’s shale gas business in the US, wantonly destroying the biosphere and Shell is focussed on mega gas projects. What is BP doing?”

Rich fat investors have also suggested that the share price has not recovered sufficiently from the Gulf spill.

The  murdering oil companies pay NOTHING to the families of the 2.4 million dead from air pollution each year, caused largely by burning oil.

As long as profits continue they pay and care NOTHING for runaway Climate Change, already destroying the habitat of millions of people and animals, and set to devastate the whole planet.

In a few years, as climate chaos takes hold,  executives and investors from these oil companies will be spurned and pilloried, and jailed as mass killers and climate criminals.

Change to NH3 fuel..Cheaper, safer, no CO2, no SOx, .

Recently I discovered that a CO2 -free fuel for internal combustion engines already exists and would be cheaper and less dangerous than petroleum products.
MUCH less dangerous as burning it produces no SOx, no Carbon Monoxide, very low NOx etc which worldwide
cause hundreds of thousands of extra deaths from respiratory diseases every year.
WHY then don’t we use it?? Because the oil corporations have us hooked on their products.
I was inspired to publicize the existence of  NH3 fuel in a small way with this blog and Farcebook.
Incredibly when publicized as an Event there was little interest..MORE AGAINST THAN IN FAVOUR.
People cant believe it and see me as one more internet crank. The best response so far comes from Anne J., see below,
  • i have visited your page, also followed the links that i could find, now need to research the claims before i can like or share, as i could not find a simple to understand explanation of how this technology works… as time is of the essence, doubling up my time when such a simple explanation probably already exists to enable understanding by everyday people (who do not hold chemical/mechanical engineering degrees) would see your page, and this technology, greater general public awareness.
    Warm regards

  • thanks ANNE FOR YOUR SUGGESTION.. I didn’t realize this was an issue and will try to find such an explanation. however I fear that no matter how it is explained, nobody will listen to me, when lots of credible scientists have been ignored for so many years. One angle I thought of was appealing to people suffering respiratory illnesses linked to pollution from oil based motors.
What can I say.? The corporations and markets are lauding and rewarding a small army of influential Bloggers who ridicule scientific articles and evidence on anything that doesnt give them more short term profit, including NH3 fuel,  as well as promoting fracking and Tar Sands as another bonanza for greedy investors. For Example Geoffrey Styles’ article here https://thefreeonline.wordpress.com/2011/07/10/ex-texaco-guru-relegates-co2-free-nh3/
NH3 fuel is a reformist proposal, (we really need a world revolution), but it could save millions of lives and be a key element in preventing catastrophic climate change. All it needs is a few thousand activists to seriously promote the idea.

Ammonia as a Fuel

Ammonia was used during World War II to power buses in Belgium, and in engine and solar energy applications prior to 1900. Liquid ammonia was used as the fuel of the rocket airplane, the X-15. Although not as powerful as other fuels, it left no soot in the reusable rocket engine and its density approximately matches the density of the oxidizer, liquid oxygen, which simplified the aircraft’s design.

Ammonia has been proposed as a practical alternative to fossil fuel for internal combustion engines.[39] The calorific value of ammonia is 22.5 MJ/kg (9690 BTU/lb) which is about half that of diesel. In a normal engine, in which the water vapour is not condensed, the calorific value of ammonia will be about 21% less than this figure. It can be used in existing engines with only minor modifications to carburettors/injectors.

To meet these demands, significant capital would be required to increase present production levels. Although the second most produced chemical, the scale of ammonia production is a small fraction of world petroleum usage. It could be manufactured from renewable energy sources, as well as coal or nuclear power. It is however significantly less efficient than batteries.[citation needed] The 60 MW Rjukan dam in Telemark, Norway produced ammonia via electrolysis of water for many years from 1913 producing fertilizer for much of Europe. If produced from coal, the CO2 can be readily sequestered [39][40] (the combustion products are nitrogen and water). In 1981 a Canadian company converted a 1981 Chevrolet Impala to operate using ammonia as fuel.[41][42]

Ammonia engines or ammonia motors, using ammonia as a working fluid, have been proposed and occasionally used.[43] The principle is similar to that used in a fireless locomotive, but with ammonia as the working fluid, instead of steam or compressed air. Ammonia engines were used experimentally in the 19th century by Goldsworthy Gurney in the UK and in streetcars in New Orleans in the USA.

World Bank top Climate Criminals

World Bank coal funding hits record high as it seeks climate finance control

World Bank funding for coal power stations has soared 40-fold over the last five years to hit a record high of $4.4 billion in 2010, new figures reveal.

Bank lending to coal-fuelled power projects significantly exceeds its financing of new renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, which stood at $3,128 billion in 2009 (the latest figure available).

‘This new analysis reveals incoherence at the heart of the World Bank’s thinking about energy,’ said Dr Alison Doig, Christian Aid’s Senior Adviser on Climate Change. ‘At the same time as it is seeking to gain control of the billions which will be channelled to developing countries to help them cope with global warming, the Bank is still lending staggeringly large and growing sums to finance coal-fired power.

‘Yet we know that coal is the dirtiest of all the fossil fuels – the one which most exacerbates the climate crisis which is having devastating effects on the lives of people living in poverty. We also know that by financing the building of coal power stations, the Bank is locking countries in to coal use for the next 40 to 50 years.’

Meanwhile NH3 fuel, which produces zero emissions when burned in easily converted petrol and diesel engines,, and is cheaper to produce, is still ignored and boycotted because it doesn’t offer a monopoly of big profits-  Read more here  https://thefreeonline.wordpress.com/category/ammonia-nh3-co2-free-fuel/

CO2 Tax in Australia..Hope at last!

AUSTRALIA
Renewable Energy Wins, Controversially
By Stephen de Tarczynski

MELBOURNE, Jul 14, 2011 (IPS) – Australia has taken a major step in reducing its future greenhouse gas output with the announcement of a plan that will initially place a tax on every tonne of carbon pollution produced by hundreds of the country’s major emitters.

“Most Australians now agree our climate is changing. This is caused by carbon pollution. This has harmful effects on our environment and on the economy and the government should act,” said Prime Minister Julia Gillard in a televised address to the nation on Jul.10, just hours after the full details of the carbon scheme had been revealed.

The tax is the first step in the design that proponents say will see Australia reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent on 2000 levels, an increase from the previous target of a 60 percent cut.

Australia is responsible for around 1.47 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, similar to Iran and France, according to 2005 data from the World Resources Institute, the latest year for which statistics are available. Yet on a per capita basis, Australians are the biggest polluters among developed nations.

Despite this, there remains heated debate about how – and even if – Australia should reduce its carbon output.

Protests against implementing a carbon price and questioning human-induced global warming have been held in numerous Australian cities over the past few months – albeit often opposed in other areas by larger rallies calling for far-reaching government action. Climate scientists at leading universities have reported receiving death threats and abusive telephone calls.

Coal is big business here, where around ten percent of the world’s reserves are located.

Australia is the fourth largest coal producer in the world – behind China, the United States and India – yet the most prolific exporter, supplying about 27 percent of global demand. The burning of coal at power stations also accounts for more than 83 percent of this country’s own electricity generation.

The carbon tax plan includes a commitment to close the larger coal-fired power plants by 2020

Tar-mageddon vs. Ammonia CO2-free fuel

Tarmeggedon

Free-thinking citizens of the world:
Anonymous’ Operation Green Rights calls your attention to an urgent situation in North America perpetuated by the boundless greed of the usual suspects: Exxon Mobil, ConocoPhillips, Canadian Oil Sands Ltd., Imperial Oil, the Royal Bank of Scotland, and many others.
This week, activists are gathering along U.S. Highway 12 in Montana to protest the transformation of a serene wilderness into an industrial shipping route, bringing “megaloads” of refinery equipment to the Alberta Tar Sands in Canada (see Tar Sands FAQ Sheet below).
Anonymous now joins the struggle against “Big Oil” in the heartland of the US. We stand in solidarity with any citizen willing to protest corporate abuse. Anonymous will not stand by idly and let these environmental atrocities continue. This is not the clean energy of the future that we are being promised.

We will, over the course of the next few days, use the powers we posses to spread news about this scenario and the corporations involved. We are actively seeking leaks to expose the corruption that we all KNOW is beneath this. Anonymous will support the activists on July 13-14 when they initiate civil disobedience and direct action to confront this dire issue. We urge you to get involved. Montana and Idaho citizens, we ask you to join local protests and attend the Highway 12 rally if you are close enough! If you’re not, join us in the IRC listed below for our own good times.
The continued development of the tar sands is a major step backward in the effort to curb global warming. Anonymous will not suffer this without a fight, and Operation Green Rights will always support the rights of the people to live in an unpolluted world, and aim to help safeguard it for the future. One way or another.

We are Anonymous.
We are Legion.
We do not forgive.
We do not forget.
Expect us.

Ex Texaco guru relegates CO2-free NH3

Geoffrey Styles, who was a director in Texaco for 22 years, is now a guru blogger promoting CO2 producing fuels. We don’t  know what financial investments he has in it but his arguments are clever, insidious, and if that doesn’t wash, just wrong

”His industry experience includes 22 years at Texaco Inc., culminating in a senior position on Texaco’s leadership team for strategy development, focused on the global refining, marketing, transportation and alternative energy businesses, and global issues such as climate change.”

How can you ask someone who has lived 22 years in Texaco Inc.  be qualified to comment on Ammonia Fuel? Having witnessed the crimes against humanuity committed over a generation by Texaco in Ecuador, and now recognized by international courts I find it impossible to accept arguments from that source, especially as I have uncovered evidence (not directly related to Geoffrey Styles) of systematic suppression of NH3 fuel technology by the Oil Corporations during half a century. One of the main thrusts of the relegation of NH3 has certainly been the financing of just such apparently scientific argument as we witness above.

You can read Geoffrey’s ANTI AMMONIA article HERE     http://theenergycollective.com/comment/reply/46324

And here are some of the replies…

Casey Stack said:

There are several inaccurate, misleading or significantly biased comments in Geoffrey Styles article which make NH3 appear less practicable than is the reality. Simply put:

In order of appearance above

– Energy Density.  wrong

The reason more than one international automotive manufacturer is currently pursuing NH3 is due to the fact that it is more practical for energy storage than CNG.  According to an automotive manufacturer this year, the reason broad CNG auto manufacturing has not caught on in 30 years is the energy density issue. More on the later.

– Dual Fuel Requirements. wrong

The first trans US demonstration of an NH3 fueled vehicle in 2007 did operate on a dual fuel scheme. However, today, a patented breakthrough technology, ” the flame cracker” completely solves the need for carrying dual fuels in a unit is tiny, starts instantly, self sufficient, is very low cost to manufacture..making automotive use completely practical.

– Energy Cost and GGE. wrong

Today the cost of NH3 varies dramatically based on location.  Depending on location, actual price may be only 33% to 50% of that stated above. This was also true in the early days of gasoline distribution.

Also, the cost per mile assumptions are incorrect.  Because NH3 has an octane rating 50% higher than that of gasoline, much higher engine efficiencies are attained.  This equates to as much as a 60% increase in mileage for the same total energy input. This is a great thing for everyone, and makes the fuel even cheaper.

During our cross country drive powered by NH3 in 2007, www.nh3car.com, NH3 was $425/ton and gasoline was $2.25. This was break even pricing.. today, gas is $3.00.  And energy per mile is going down with purpose-built NH3 engines as discussed immediately above.

– Pressure of Storage. wrong

I’m very surprised this issue is raised here. It’s as simple as this:

CNG = 3,500 PSI tank (with the associated weight, strength and cost of a tank rated for 3,500PSI)

NH3 = 150 PSI. This is a thin lightweight low cost tank, which improves gas mileage by reducing significant weight.

– Safety.. wrong

The hazards from gasoline outweigh the hazards from NH3 any way you look at it. There is 100 years of scientific and medical data to back this up. There is no contest.  This has been sliced, resliced, studied and confirmed by the major medical and industrial safety companies which rate risk for the petroleum industries and governments time and again.  Thousands of people are maimed or killed in the US every year by gasoline accidents.. doesn’t happen with NH3.

CO2-free NH3, from Rjukan waterfall,1913.

NH3 fuel can be burned without producing CO2 or toxic gases, plus its cheaper and nearly as high powered as gasoline But right now its made with Natural Gas feedstock.. which DOES pollute and emit CO2. However NH3 is ideal for production with smaller scale renewable ‘green’ facilities. For example we can go right back to 1913, and climb up to the waterfall on the ice free fjord of Rjukan, where ‘green’ NH3 fertilizer was made for half the planet!

The 60 MW Rjukan dam in Telemark, Norway produced ammonia via electrolysis of water for many years from 1913 producing fertilizer for much of Europe at the Vemork power station at the Norsk H Rjukan waterfall in the Telemark province (state)

In the European and American race to develop a process for manufacturing artificial fertiliser, the Rjukanfossen waterfall was harnessed in 1911 to provide sufficient power to run Professor Kristian Birkeland’s electric arc method for separating nitrogen from air. This method was more effective than any other method tried at that time (Niagara 1903 etc.) and, following test runs at Notodden (1907), the method was seen as promising from an industrial perspective.

Norsk Hydro[1], was formed and an urban community was created in the early 1900s in a poor and remote rural area. This involved a number of elements such as power stations, factories, residential areas, buildings for administrative and social purposes, as well as equipment for exporting calcium nitrate (Norges-salpeter, Norwegian saltpetre), a significant industrial product for agriculture worldwide.

Ammonia is a compound of nitrogen and hydrogen with the formula NH3. It is normally encountered as a gas with a characteristic pungent odour. Ammonia contributes significantly to the nutritional needs of terrestrial organisms by serving as a precursor to foodstuffs and fertilizers.
