CO2-free NH3, from Rjukan waterfall,1913.

NH3 fuel can be burned without producing CO2 or toxic gases, plus its cheaper and nearly as high powered as gasoline But right now its made with Natural Gas feedstock.. which DOES pollute and emit CO2. However NH3 is ideal for production with smaller scale renewable ‘green’ facilities. For example we can go right back to 1913, and climb up to the waterfall on the ice free fjord of Rjukan, where ‘green’ NH3 fertilizer was made for half the planet!

The 60 MW Rjukan dam in Telemark, Norway produced ammonia via electrolysis of water for many years from 1913 producing fertilizer for much of Europe at the Vemork power station at the Norsk H Rjukan waterfall in the Telemark province (state)

In the European and American race to develop a process for manufacturing artificial fertiliser, the Rjukanfossen waterfall was harnessed in 1911 to provide sufficient power to run Professor Kristian Birkeland’s electric arc method for separating nitrogen from air. This method was more effective than any other method tried at that time (Niagara 1903 etc.) and, following test runs at Notodden (1907), the method was seen as promising from an industrial perspective.

Norsk Hydro[1], was formed and an urban community was created in the early 1900s in a poor and remote rural area. This involved a number of elements such as power stations, factories, residential areas, buildings for administrative and social purposes, as well as equipment for exporting calcium nitrate (Norges-salpeter, Norwegian saltpetre), a significant industrial product for agriculture worldwide.

Ammonia is a compound of nitrogen and hydrogen with the formula NH3. It is normally encountered as a gas with a characteristic pungent odour. Ammonia contributes significantly to the nutritional needs of terrestrial organisms by serving as a precursor to foodstuffs and fertilizers.

CO2-free fuel exists NOW (NH3) (new Farcebook page)

I`ve made a Farcebook page to promote NH3 fuel click here

This sounds like a scam or a hoax. It’s not, I’m just an old climate activist and writer, not a business.

I couldn’t believe it myself, how come I never knew?..

After all the hot air and ballyhoo.. CO2-free fuel has existed all along. Has existed plus its cheaper to make than petrol, from air and water plus a power source and some catalysts. check on Wikipedia. It’s impossible but it`s true. (needs link)

The power source to make it nowadays is Natural Gas,(emits CO2 etc) but making NH3 is easier from renewables. For years all Europe’s NH3 fertilizer needs came from renewable energy.( needs link)

Cars have long ago been converted and driven across America, plus lorries, tractors locomotives and even a NASA Jet. NH3 fuel has existed for a century, buses ran on it in the 40s!! (needs link)

Plus now there’s a new way to make it, cheaper and less energy, called SSAS.
(If the oil companies don’t `bury` the patents as we suspect they did with the new solar panels) (needs link)

Safety.. Ammonia is dangerous, but MUCH less than petroleum, with a fraction of relative accidents. Its low pressure and can`t explode. Only burns at a precise temperature. Evaporates upwards fast, etc. It IS also dangerous for aquatic fauna.

One more thing, I understand that using NH3 correctly produces also no NOx. an IMPORTANT DETAIL since 100s of 1000s die yearly from respiratory diseases critically worsened by vehicle exhausts. (needs link and research)

The oil and vehicle Corporations know this full well but take no responsibility for all these horrible deaths, nor for the environmental mayhem or the millions already suffering from climate change, or all the unique species now faced with extinction. On the contrary they claim tax breaks and handouts on top of their mega profits. (link needed here)

But its not just the corporations. NOBODY is interested in NH3, (Green Gas, Hydrofuel, Ammonia). Nobody has even replied to my blogposts about it though I have it on Google 6 times. It seems like we need a critical mass also for common sense ideas to be accepted!

The aim of this page is to publicize NH3 CO2-free fuel, and specifically to alert the 1000s of climate, ecology, renewable, Save the Planet type folks and organizations and appeal to them to publicize this option IN ANY WAY possible.

All existing combustion engines should be converted to run on NH3 immediately to avoid the danger of irreversible runaway climate change in our thin and fragile atmosphere.

Ignore this like everybody else.. to hell with the planet..  or PLEASE HELP NOW

Brazil politicians sell out Amazon

BRAZIL
Politicians Out of Sync with Public Sentiment on the Environment
By Mario Osava*

BRASILIA, Jun 29, 2011 (Tierramérica) – The environmental movement continues to gain credibility and support as scientific findings confirm its warnings and natural disasters become increasingly frequent. Yet this growing awareness has yet to reach political decision makers in countries like Brazil, much to the frustration of environmentalists.

A prime example is the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of Congress, where an overwhelming majority voted in favor of changes to the 1965 Forest Code that threaten to further accelerate deforestation.

The final tally was 410 votes in favor, a mere 63 against and one abstention, after months of heated debate over reforms that could lead to the devastation of the Amazon rainforest, environmental disasters, and future losses even for the farmers who will benefit from the reforms in the short term.

The results oa survey, published Jun. 10, showed that of the 1,286 people interviewed, 85 percent said that protecting forests and rivers is a priority, even if it affects agricultural production, while only 10 percent supported the opposite view, despite the fact that Brazil is a major agricultural power

a well written article but it fails to mention that top Brazilian politicians are being moved sideways after  they suddenly ‘came into’ vast wealth. Plus that most land in the country is still owned by a tiny corrupt extreme right oligarchy, well capable of BUYING A PARLIAMENT!

Greg’s CO2-free ammonia cars..30 years waiting

Here´s Greg Vezina of Hydrofuel Inc. with his Ammonia Car… still waiting after 30 years!

Despite being CO2-free  (even carbon negative according to Greg) and cheaper than petrol and finally gaining mass publicity the conversion kits still haven’t been mass produced. Car and oil corporations are still completely ignoring Ammonia fuel  (Green Gas NH3).

Adapting transport to NH3, which is readily available would save hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths a year through lung and cardiovascular diseases.  The deliberate suppression of the simple  (but not yet DIY) technology is a crime against humanity.

→ 5 Comentaris Posted in Actes assemblea, Info general

Appeal: Direct action vs.Tar Sands pipeline.CO2-FREE fuel already exists!

stop the tar sands photo photo: Diane Worth/Creative Commons

Dear Friends,

This will be a slightly longer letter than common for the internet age–it’s serious stuff.

The short version is we want you to consider doing something hard: coming to Washington in the hottest and stickiest weeks of the summer and engaging in civil disobedience that will likely get you arrested.

The full version goes like this:

As you know, the planet is steadily warming: 2010 was the warmest year on record, and we’ve seen the resulting chaos in almost every corner of the earth.

And as you also know, our democracy is increasingly controlled by special interests interested only in their short-term profit.

These two trends collide this summer in Washington, where the State Department and the White House have to decide whether to grant a  certificate of ‘national interest’ to some of the biggest fossil fuel players on earth. These corporations want to build the so-called ‘Keystone XL Pipeline‘ from Canada’s tar sands to Texas refineries.

To call this project a horror is serious understatement. The tar sands have wrecked huge parts of Alberta, disrupting ways of life in indigenous communities–First Nations communities in Canada, and tribes along the pipeline route in the U.S. have

Peru victory:Bear Creek silver mine stopped. Aymaras occupy airport.

An injured protester and his family at a hospital after clashing with police during protests in Juliaca [Reuters]

Thousands of protesters opposed to mining and energy projects in southern Peru have taken over a commercial airport as the government struggled to restore calm a day after five died in a clash with police.

Officials said that approximately 3,000 protesters had occupied the runway at the Juliaca airport in the region of Puno on Saturday. Several hundred police officers retreated to avoid another clash after weeks of protests over a controversial Canadian mining project.

Protesters often mobilize to protect scarce water supplies, what they see as ancestral lands, or complain about potential pollution from new mines.

Often times they also demand direct economic benefits from mining and oil projects, which have helped turn the Andean nation’s economy into one of the world’s fastest-growing but left behind a third of its people in poverty.

Halted project

After earlier clashes on Friday, Fernando Gala, the deputy mining minister, announced that the government had revoked a 2007 decree granting approval to the British Columbia-based Bear Creek Mining Corp to mine silver at Santa Ana.

The decree was required because the mine site is within 80km of the international border with Bolivia.

“It has been agreed to repeal the authorisation,” said Yohny Lescano, a politician who participated in a government dialogue on Thursday with protesters over the Santa Ana project.

Bear Creek Chief Executive Andrew Swarthout told Reuters news agency that the company would sue the government to get its concession back and mining analysts have said the government’s move could lead foreign companies to think contracts aren’t respected in Peru.

But Garcia said stability and social peace was more important. In the days before the clash at the airport, the first time the protests turned deadly, protesters had set fire to government buildings in the area.

“I think there are more important objectives and the first one is to guarantee a peaceful transition and a trouble-free start to the government of Ollanta Humala,” Garcia told reporters.

Some 5,000 protesters, mostly Aymara Indians, have descended on Puno over the past few weeks to demand concessions be revoked for all mining companies, not just Bear Creek’s Santa Ana project, ostensibly over concerns about potential pollution.

Protesters have paralysed the area with road blockades since May 9 in an attempt to cancel the Santa Ana mine, as well as a proposed hydroelectric project on the Inambari river.
