As the worlds media attention is focused on football violence in France: yesterday (14/06/16) Paris witnessed some of it’s worst political violence in decades as protesters defied the countries state of emergency and fought battles with heavily millitarized police units. Unions called for a general strike over the governments plans to change labour laws, making it easier for bosses to fire workers. The government refuses to back down as resistance grows across the country with unions calling for more strikes.

Activists in Paris kicked off a week of action against the Eurosatory arms fair by covering an armoured vehicle in paint.

People from Belgium, Germany and England have joined French activists to take action against one of the world’s biggest arms fairs that takes place every two years.

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) — Newly-appointed Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman Thursday issued an order to suspend the return of all Palestinian bodies killed during suspected attacks in response to a shooting in Tel Aviv on Wednesday that left four Israelis killed and an additional six injured.

Israel extends detention of Palestinian clown Circus performer set to be held for another six months without trial or charge under administrative detention.

The Methane Bomb: New Proof that Frack Gas is Twice as Bad as Coal for Climate

Fracking is twice as bad for climate as coal – will the Climate Change Committee ban it?

The UK government is all for fracking, writes Dr Robin Russell-Jones, but on climate grounds alone it should be banned. Evidence from the US shows that shale gas is twice as dirty as coal from a climate viewpoint due to ‘fugitive emissions’ of methane. That makes fracking incompatible with the UK’s climate change commitments and the Paris Agreement – as the CCC may soon rule.

We have been unofficially informed that the CCC has accepted our data on fugitive emissions of methane – and that shale gas is twice as bad as coal from a climate change perspective. In other words fracking is likely to be banned.

Fracking has aroused huge controversy in the UK, mainly in England, as there are moratoriums on fracking in Scotland and Wales.

Economist Michael Hudson says neoliberal policy will pressure U.S. citizens to emigrate, just as it caused millions to leave Russia, the Baltic States, and now Greece in search of a better life

A research team from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health in New York estimates 875,000 deaths in the United States in year 2000 could be attributed to social factors related to poverty and income inequality.According to U.S. government statistics, 2.45 million Americans died in the same year. When compared to the Columbia research team’s finding, social deprivation could account for some 36% of the total deaths in 2000.

“Almost all of the British economists of the late 18th century said when you have poverty, when you have a transfer of wealth to the rich, you’re going to have shorter lifespans, and you’re also going to have emigration,” says Michael Hudson, Distinguished Research Professor of Economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
