by DANIEL PIPES Novr 3, 2015 Like other observers of Turkish politics, I was stunned on November 1 when the ruling Justice and Development Party (Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi, or AKP) was reported to have increased its share of the national vote since the last round of elections in June 2015 by 9 percent and its share of parliamentary seats by 11 percent. The polls had consistently shown the four major parties winning about the same number of seats as in June. This made intuitive sense; they represent mutually hostile outlooks (Islamist, leftist, Kurdish, nationalist), making substantial movement between them in under five months highly unlikely. Iceland jails 26 Bankers and plans Windfall Gifts to Citizens
First They Jailed the Bankers, Now Every Icelander to Get Paid in Bank Sale
Iceland — First, Iceland jailed its crooked bankers for their direct involvement in the financial crisis of 2008. Now, every Icelander will receive a payout for the sale of one of its three largest banks, Íslandsbanki.
If Finance Minister Bjarni Benediktsson has his way — and he likely will — Icelanders will be paid kr 30,000 ( 212 euros) after the government takes over ownership of the bank. Íslandsbanki would be second of the three largest banks under State proprietorship.

‘Arson’ in Massive Fire at Monsanto Research Facility
(ANTIMEDIA) Maryland — Earlier this week, a Monsanto research facility in France was burned to the ground. Monsanto and investigators suspect an arsonist was responsible for the blaze.
Monsanto representative Jakob Witten told Reuters that investigators“strongly suspect it was a crime as no electrical or other sources were found.”He added that “No Monsanto sites in Europe have so far been the victim of fires of criminal origin, this is unprecedented violence.”
The fire had multiple points of origin, meaning it is unlikely the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction or other natural causes. Investigators also noticed a strong smell of gasoline in different areas of the site.
France announced in June that it was banning sales of Roundup, Monsanto’s flagship herbicide, amid public pressure and the World Health Organization’s announcement that the product is probably carcinogenic. Continue reading “‘Arson’ in Massive Fire at Monsanto Research Facility”

New operation ordered by Spanish National Court against Catalan libertarian movement
The Police have this morning arrested at least nine people accused of ”organizing a terrorist group” in a new political operation led by the National Court. Hundreds of Catalan police smashed into and searched various anarchist social centers and local homes from 7.00 am in the neighborhoods of Sants, Gracia, Clot and Sant Andreu in the city of Barcelona, and in the city of Manresa.
the police attacks were ordered by is the Spanish National Court as a new phase in the much criticised and ridiculed ‘ Pandora operation’, as confirmed by a note from the Catalan police, the first phase resulted in the arrest of ten people and preventive imprisonment of seven of them last December (finally all were released on bail due to lack of evidence)..
Among the targets this time is the Revoltosa Occupiued Social Center in in Clot, and the main Anarchist Ateneo center in Sants, at Maria Victoria St, where ten vans of riot police were deployed.
When the news got out, dozens of people have gathered to show their solidarity and have cut the principle Sants high street behind a banner in support of the detainees
Minutes later, protestors were concentrated at Masnou St when two vans of riot police arrived to carry out a new raid, leading to police charges and shoving and punching… Continue reading “New police blitz in Barcelona. 9 more ‘anarchists’ arrested”

Update on the situation of Monica Caballero and Francisco Solar
from claudicarnuncarendirsejamas, with thanks, Oct 20 2015
It’s been almost two long years since the anarchists Monica and Francisco were jailed on charges of belonging to a terrorist organization, criminal damage and conspiracy . During this time they have lived in the isolation cells of various Spanish prisons, experiencing the dreaded ‘FIES’ regime and dispersion, but always reaffirming their ideas and illustrating once again the insurmountable gap between the world that anarchists pursue and that imposed by Power.
Two years is a long time. There has been time, for example, to perform two more antiterrorist operations, Pandora and Piñata, connecting the three cases by the acronym GAC-FAI-FRI and charging a total of 25 comrades from different parts of the peninsula with ‘terrorism’. There has been also enough time for us to understand the challenge of imprisonment, solidarity and closer links between comrades.
