Revolutionaries in Portland looted businesses and set one side of Portland Police Bureau’s North Precinct on fire early Friday morning, as the anti-police uprising that has spread throughout the US continued.
The north side of the North Precinct was set ablaze around 2:15 a.m. Police used CS gas, a type of tear gas, to try to disperse the crowd, but militants threw canisters back at the pigs.
At one point in the early morning, militants and pigs physically clashed as police tried to move them from the area. Some militants shot paintballs at the pigs’ face shields, rendering them unable to see.
Several businesses were looted overnight after windows were smashed and more fires were set. A nearby bank is believed to have been vandalized as well.
Multiple pigs were injured in the uprising.
For the first time since George Floyd was killed exactly one month ago, people in Portland demonstrated at two police precincts simultaneously overnight, and set up barricades outside the precinct in North Portland, which was set on fire.
The protesters had marched from Fern Hill Park in Northeast Portland to the Portland Police Bureau’s North Precinct earlier Thursday evening.
Revolutionaries vandalized the police building by spray-painting graffiti along the outer walls, blacking out security cameras and rolling dumpsters into the street to form a barricade as a line of uniformed pigs looked on from a distance.
Across the Willamette River at the Justice Center, another group formed on Thursday evening for a vigil for George Floyd and others killed by police. Later, the group dismantled the fence near the building and vandalized the structure.
The revolutionary uprising against police that began after the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis is not over. The burning of precincts will continue until all pigs are driven off the streets permanently.

On March 31, 2020, a group of scientists from around the world—from Oxford University to Beijing Normal University—published an important paper in Science. This paper—“An Investigation of Transmission Control Measures During the First 50 Days of the COVID-19 Epidemic in China”—proposes that if the Chinese government had not initiated the lockdown of Wuhan and the national emergency response, then there would have been 744,000 additional confirmed COVID-19 cases outside Wuhan. “Control measures taken in China,” the authors argue, “potentially hold lesso[n]s for other countries around the world.”
In the World Health Organization’s February report after a visit to China, the team members wrote, “In the face of a previously unknown virus, China has rolled out perhaps the most ambitious, agile and aggressive disease containment effort in history.”
In this report, we detail the measures taken by the different levels of the Chinese government and by social organizations to stem the spread of the virus and the disease at a time when scientists had just begun to accumulate knowledge about them and when they worked in the absence of a vaccine and a specific drug treatment for COVID-19.
The Emergence of a Plan
In the early days of January 2020, the National Health Commission (NHC) and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) began to establish protocols to deal with the diagnosis, treatment, and laboratory testing of what was then considered a “viral pneumonia of unknown cause.” A treatment manual was produced by the NHC and health departments in Hubei Province and sent to all medical institutions in Wuhan City on January 4; city-wide training was conducted that same day. By January 7, China CDC isolated the first novel coronavirus strain, and three days later, the Wuhan Institute of Virology (Chinese Academy of Sciences) and others developed testing kits.
By the second week of January, more was known about the nature of the virus, and so a plan began to take shape to contain it. On January 13, the NHC instructed Wuhan City authorities to begin temperature checks at ports and stations and to reduce public gathering. The next day, the NHC held a national teleconference that alerted all of China to the virulent novel coronavirus strain and to prepare for a public health emergency.

The street where Liliana and her two children, aged 7 and 13, live, was already full of people long before one in the afternoon, when the eviction of this family was called, this Thursday, June 18. Finally, they managed to gather more than 200 people, convened by the PAH Barcelona, who managed to paralyze the eviction that was intended to take place.
This is the first eviction that has been stopped since the state of alarm for the coronavirus pandemic in the metropolitan area of Barcelona was declared. The PAH denounces that the government’s measures to alleviate the effects of the COVID-19 crisis are insufficient and alludes to the obvious evidence of the eviction of Liliana and her family.
Liliana paid the rent on time every month to a person who claimed to own the apartment, but when a month ago they cut off her water, she learned that this person was not actually the owner of the apartment and that, for both were occupying the flat for legal purposes.
The Cerberus vulture fund, which is the real owner of the property, began the process of evicting the apartment where this mother and her two children live.
Liliana and PAH Barcelona denounce that the attention given during the pandemic to the tenant has been disastrous and insufficient and that, instead of strengthening the teams, both in Social Services and in Housing, offices have been closed to give telephone attention in many cases negligent, thus leaving tenants to their fate in a complicated context.

This is an opportunity to use eye-catching actions to publicise the campaign demands, invite more people to join, and to express solidarity on the streets with your fellow renters.
The focus of actions on this day will be on the way that the current housing system is particularly dangerous to our black and brown communities. Racism has always been a feature of our housing system – our racialised members are impacted both by racist landlords and racist laws, such as the Right to Rent legislation and no recourse to public funds (NRPF), which make it more difficult to access good quality housing and justice in the housing system.
Why is the London Renters Union taking action this Saturday? Hundreds of thousands of renters across London are in debt to their landlords, according to research by the Resolution Foundation. Unless the government cancels rent debt and makes the eviction ban permanent, hundreds of thousands of renters face eviction.
Black and brown communities are being disproportionately impacted by the Covid 19 crisis, including by being most at risk of losing jobs and incomes and facing homelessness. For some migrants, No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) visa conditions prevent them from receiving housing benefit and universal credit, putting them at greater risk of eviction, homelessness, and harassment by landlords.
We have a specific demand around racism in housing: No borders in housing. But racism also interplays with our other campaign demands.For example, a cancellation in all rent debt, would ensure that all renters are protected, including migrants with No Recourse to Public Funds, who are likely to have less access to benefits.
But we won’t give up until all of us get what we need to be safe. Let’s show the government and decision makers that renters are getting organised! How can I join the day of action? Take a photo of yourself holding a sign or placard with a demand which resonates with you!

If there’s one thing that foretold the City of London’s ambition to become the epicenter of finance it was the founding of the Royal Exchange almost 500 years ago.
The driving force behind the capital’s first purpose-built center for trading stocks was Sir Thomas Gresham, whose legacy survives in the college, City street and law of economics that bear his name.
Less celebrated is the role of his prominent backer in the venture, Sir William Garrard: former Lord Mayor and pioneer of English involvement in the slave trade.
The City of London is interwoven with so many layers of history, from Roman to Medieval, Civil War and the age of empire, that the lives of the myriad figures who contributed to its status today are often obscured by time.
But with outside scrutiny comes the realization that many made their fortunes off the back of slavery and colonial oppression, a fact that is now being acknowledged by some of the financial district’s most venerable names, shaking the foundations upon which many of these institutions were built.

The key phrase that got my attention during the video where Atlanta Police officers executed our brother. The police officer that shot Rayshard in the back twice said: “I got’em”. Both my cell-mate and I agreed that sounded as if the officer had just bagged a wild animal during a hunting expedition.

I and many other freedom fighters all across the world are demanding that the police be abolished, defunded, and disbanded because this system is not working for us.
