Though FBI harrassment continues the anarchist movement are winning a solidarity victory in the campaign against political repression.
Several people imprisoned for refusing to give information about political activists to the so-called ‘Grand Juries’ have now been released.

Next case is that of Gerald “Jerry” Koch, a New York City anarchist and legal activist,has been subpoenaed for the second time to a federal grand jury investigating the same event. In 2009, Jerry was subpoenaed for the first time and refused to testify. Today, as in 2009, the grand jury is being used to conduct a witch hunt against anarchists and political radicals.
In refusing to testify, Jerry risks being held in contempt of court and faces incarceration in a federal prison for the duration of the grand jury, which could be up to 18 months. Under the guise of an exploratory legal investigation, the grand jury is a secretive tool of repression that aims to intimidate and punish those who refuse to collaborate with the State.
There is a long history of grand juries being used whenever the State focuses on a new “enemy”: they were used in the 1950s during the “Red Scare,” in the 1960s against the Black Panthers, and more recently against environmental and animal rights groups in what became known as the “Green Scare.
Unbreakable Preservation

Attacks against anarchists are abusive, asinine, and above all atrophied. The state cannot even break the ones they capture, interrogate, and torture. In two of the resisters own words, everything thrown at them has only made them stronger. They are not the first young adults to destroy the system and watch it crumble before their eyes. Others including environmental and animal rights activists have been fighting this for years. Their bold and brave disobedience remains a model for telling the system to go fuck itself. We will not cower, bend or splinter. We are like bamboo and we will smack the shit out of the state.
The coalition to preserve the status quo has discovered a fierce adversary with an unbreakable defense. Inevitable does not capture the intrinsic beauty of this self-inflicted implosion. The most recent round of grand jury subpoenas were met with diverse forms of resistance, all of which have been discussed previously in detail. These persecutions cross geographical borders and our shared suffering provides a glimpse to our shared hope which is strength.
Persistent witch hunts have been met with unyielding opposition but it’s a mistake to label this a tipping point. Recognize this has ignited communities that have remained dormant for decades. As individuals we can claim responsibility for its demise. As groups we represent a broader collective understanding as well as necessary obligations. As apolitical actors we have an indefinite obligation to resist and remain unbreakable. Our capacity to disrupt power, with the obvious risks of exposure, reveals the hollow authority state institutions project.
We understand the acute possibility (and at least four ‘known’ cases this became an awful reality) of solitary detention PRIOR to the accusation of ANY crime. This has still been met with ubiquitous DEFIANCE. Arbitrary imprisonment of select individuals is alive and well however, we are everywhere. Every action has an equal reaction. The state’s barbaric practices have inflicted physical and emotional pain on the grand jury resisters public and otherwise. Is this for justice for broken glass? Is this an attempt to intimidate? Why?
