In talks held by the European Commission last month, politicos agreed to extend Frontex patrols to areas currently beyond their remit, to capture and destroy smugglers’ boats, to institute a ‘rapid return programme’ for migrants in Mediterranean countries, and to develop a closer collaboration with North African states to stem flows of people. So enough of the sadness. Enough of the frustration. Enough of the demands for “restarting the rescue”. All the outrage means nothing unless you are prepared to fight against the borders themselves.
Because people would not put their lives, their babies, their lovers and brothers into paper boats they know could kill them if it were not for this thing called borders.
Like the state, borders are a recent institution of human history, becoming entrenched with the spread of European colonial powers. From defending their territorial spoils then, to protecting their looted assets today, borders are the cornerstones of colonialism and must be attacked in whatever way we can. It’s time to get over your sympathy and start destroying this apartheid.
You can start with the borders closest to you: the immigration raids, enforcement centres and detention camps in your area. Start by crossing the line of politeness and civility with the immigration bootboys, sabotage raids, disrupt deportations. Block charter flights, support resistance inside. Attack the corporate gears of the deportation machine.
Some companies in the detention & deportation business include Tascor (deportation ‘escort’ services, detention in short term holding centres), WH Tours (routinely used to bus people to charter flights), Mitie (Campsfield, Colnbrook & Harmondsworth detention centres), G4S (Brook House, Tinsley House, Cedars detention centres), Barnardo’s (Cedars family detention centre), Serco (Yarl’s Wood, ‘escort services’), GEO (Dungavel).
Further afield, you can support migrants in transit, disrupt police brutality, open squats for people to live and organise, arrange safe houses, undermine the smugglers by helping people cross borders for free, evade the police, organise alert systems and run grassroots rescue operations.

Further afield still – from countries of origin, to places of transit – we should be forming links with local agitators and creating transnational no borders bases along major itineraries, laying down the tracks of a modern underground railroad for those fleeing tyranny, grinding poverty and life under constant shelling.
Most of these ideas have been and continue to be put into practice by informal groups and individuals in Europe & beyond. But with stakes so high and the obstacles great, we need to see far less sympathetic spectatorship and far more action in solidarity with migrants and attacks against the border now.

At other times, there have been responses from direct intervention in the countries of origin: good conditioning their “development aid” to the cooperation on the migration or with diplomatic-military interventions that generate even more displaced. Both options involve even more precarious immigration experience and increase the shipwrecks in the Mediterranean, the world’s deadliest sea.
That investment is needed in a European maritime rescue program according to the size of the problem, parallel to a reduction in funding of programs, operations and technologies to militarize the border.

Lejos de ser fenómenos “naturales”, están directamente relacionados con la política exterior de la Unión Europea y sus intereses comerciales.Que la Unión Europea define a estas personas como “inmigrantes ilegales” para no tener que aceptar las implicaciones de lo que realmente son: potenciales refugiados, niños y niñas, víctimas de diversos conflictos.
Que la mayoría de las personas que se han ahogado deberían haber estado amparadas por la legislación y los tratados de protección internacionales suscritos por los países de la Unión Europea. Ante la imposibilidad de cursar cualquier tipo de solicitud, se ven obligadas a arrojarse al mar para, una vez llegadas a Europa, tratar de conseguir este reconocimiento.Que la UE ha renunciado a su orientación más humanitaria y respetuosa con los Derechos Humanos para darle, en cambio, una orientación bélica a todo lo que tiene que ver con las migraciones. La mayor responsable de este enfoque es la Agencia Frontex. La Agencia entiende el intento de acceso de las personas como un “riesgo” (literalmente) de violación de las Fronteras. Se dedican millones de euros a sufragar tecnología militar de vigilancia y, en cambio, no se destina ninguna medida al salvamento de personas. Recordamos que la Agencia Frontex ha pasado de tener un presupuesto anual de 5 millones de euros en su origen (2004) a más de 80 millones por año en 2015. El Estado Español destinó en el último lustro casi 290 millones de euros a sellar las fronteras españolas y menos de 10 millones a la acogida de refugiados, una de las ratios más desiguales de la Unión Europea. También ha pagado 50 millones de euros a Marruecos para que construya una nueva valla de concertinas. No faltan recursos, sino voluntad política.Que la tecnología de Frontex es capaz de localizar las embarcaciones, pero resulta absolutamente incapaz de salvar a las personas. Por prioridades políticas, se invierte el dinero en el control de personas pero no en su salvamento.Que el Ministro de Interior, Fernández Diaz, es responsable directo de legitimar estas muertes, pues considera que salvar vidas en el Mediterráneo puede generar un efecto llamada. Es decir, según el Ministro, hay personas que hoy tienen que morir para que un posible efecto (sin una relación causal clara) sea evitado. El verdadero efecto llamada no es Salvamento Marítimo. Más bien estamos ante un efecto directo de expulsión, consecuencia de las políticas Europeas en África. Afirmaciones como las del Ministro deberían tener consecuencias legales.Que no es tolerable aceptar que “otra embarcación se ha hundido”: hay toda una cadena de responsabilidades que han de ser investigadas, esclarecidas y, en su caso, juzgadas. Se ha de evitar que vuelva a suceder, mejorando los protocolos de salvamento.Que es inadmisible la hipocresía del Presidente del Gobierno cuando indica que “Ya no valen las palabras, hay que actuar” en relación a las muertes del Mediterráneo. Desgraciadamente, naufragios como éste suelen servir para lanzar medidas que dotan de más medios a Frontex sin cambiar un ápice su errática concepción de las migraciones (como una amenaza y un riesgo) y su lógica bélica. En otras ocasiones, se han dado respuestas de intervención directa en los países de origen: bien condicionando sus “ayudas al desarrollo” a la colaboración en la represión de las migraciones o bien con intervenciones diplomático-militares que generan aún más desplazados. Ambas opciones suponen precarizar aún más la experiencia migratoria y aumentar los naufragios en el Mediterráneo, el mar más mortífero del mundo.Que es necesaria la inversión en un programa europeo de salvamento marítimo acorde a la envergadura del problema, paralela a una reducción de la financiación de programas, operaciones y tecnologías que militarizan la frontera.Que se hace necesaria la realización de un programa de identificación y memoria de las víctimas, y de repatriación de los cuerpos a sus familias.
La tragedia como género literario hace referencia a cómo los personajes son enfrentados contra el destino de los dioses con resultados de muerte o infortunio. Considerando estos elementos EXIGIMOS a las autoridades competentes:- La liberación inmediata de todas las migrantes detenidas ilegalmente.
- Medidas urgentes para garantizar la asistencia sanitaria y legal, así como la protección de los derechos de todas las personas migrantes mientras aún se encuentren detenidas.
- El cumplimento de la legislación nacional e internacional vigente en materia de derechos humanos y de las personas migrantes, prestando atención a aquellas personas con situaciones de especial vulnerabilidad .
- Una investigación judicial independiente, poniendo en duda que las victimas hayan sido tratadas conforme a sus derechos.
- El fin de las redadas racistas en todo el territorio marroquí.
A este fin, desde la Campaña estatal por el cierre de los CIEs se ha puesto en conocimiento de diversos organismos internacionales tales como el Alto Comisionado para los Derechos Humanos de Naciones Unidas o el Consejo de Europa estos hechos instándoles a que se tomen las medidas oportunas de manera urgente

The tragedy of the Mediterranean, as we have said before, is a chronic delayed and shows the perverse effects of bad policies of domination that we are no strangers.

La tragedia del Mediterráneo y el militarismo

La tragedia del Mediterráneo, ya lo hemos dicho antes, es una crónica en diferido y muestra los efectos perversos de malas políticas de dominación a las que no somos ajenos.
La vinculación entre este cementerio de refugiados que huyen hacia las costas de Europa, miles de ellos muertos en su desesperada huida del horror que nosotros mismos hemos auspiciado con la militarización del espacio africano por parte de nuestras políticas.
Atizados los fuegos por nosotros, vendido durante décadas un amplio arsenal de armas por nosotros, desencadenadas las guerras en todo el Sahel y desestabilizado el mundo árabe por nosotros, aplicadas políticas de fragmentación y desencuentro entre los pueblos por nosotros, aferrada una política económica de dominación y violencia por nosotros y un largo etcétera, que ahora no quede títere con cabeza no puede sorprender más que a los cínicos, y que los desheredados y expulsados de todos los lugares intenten cruzar hacia nuestro mundo no es sino lo más razonable.
Sonroja por ello que algún político indecente nos diga que no se trata de refugiados, sino de inmigrantes económicos, como si el tema -además de una evidente mentira- cambiara en algo la realidad.
Pero el vínculo entre estos muertos en la tumba del Mediterráneo y las políticas militares occidentales en África y en Oriente Medio resulta, no ya evidente hasta para los ciegos, sino que los propios políticos extractivos que nos gobiernan la dejan claro para quien quiera oírlo.
Así ocurre con el, por otras muchas cosas nefasto, Ministro de Defensa español, Pedro Morenés, quien con el descaro que le caracteriza ha afirmado, tal como recoge El Mundo, que misiones militares como la de la República Centroafricana se justifican para evitar tragedias como la del Mediterráneo.
Lo ha dicho ante la Comisión de Defensa, un lugar donde se debería controlar políticamente la política de defensa pero se duerme la siesta dado el apabullante acuerdo militarista reinante.
Ya lo ven: nuestras “fronteras avanzadas” y las misiones militares en el Sahel sirven, en la idea de Morenés, para que los inmigrantes sumidos en el caos que hemos provocado, no puedan llegar hasta aquí ni mostrarnos en nuestras propias narices el horror que estamos generando.
Al parecer, para esta casta extractiva que padecemos peor que un sarampión, los desplazados por las guerras y los inmigrantes son más monos de lejos y cuando no se les puede oler ni oír.
Cuando no nos dicen a la cara y con tan rotundo escándalo lo que somos.

Más muertes en el Mediterráneo: dejan de ver, comienzan los combates
Otra semana, otra tragedia inexcusable en las fronteras. 40 personas más platija a sus tumbas llorosos, al igual que un barco se acercaba a rescatarlos. Otra figura que añadir a los refugiados 2000 y pico que han perdido sus vidas en el Mediterráneo este año ya. La prensa corporativa y Twitterati-espectadores entregan su tristemente inevitable contribución, todavía embalado sensacionalmente a la interminable ‘debate’ sobre la inmigración: “2015 en camino de romper el récord Para Migrantes muerto”.
No necesitamos que adivinar segundo las acciones de aquellos en el poder: no cabe duda de que los estados bajarán cada vez más difícil en los márgenes – ejércitos Frontex conducción barcos de regreso a los países de embarque, la proliferación de campos de internamiento financiados por la UE en el norte África – como las grietas a su vez a las grietas en la fachada de nuestras democracias liberales.

Porque la gente no pondrían sus vidas, sus bebés, sus amantes y hermanos en barcos de papel que saben podría matarlos si no fuera por esta cosa llamada fronteras. Al igual que el Estado, las fronteras son una institución reciente de la historia humana, convirtiéndose atrincherada con la difusión de las potencias coloniales europeas.
Desde la defensa de sus despojos territoriales entonces, para la protección de sus activos saqueados hoy en día, las fronteras son las piedras angulares del colonialismo y deben ser atacados en todo lo que podamos. Es el momento de obtener más de su simpatía y empezar a destruir este apartheid.
Puede comenzar con las fronteras más cercanos a tu: las redadas de inmigración, centros de aplicación y campos de detención en su área. Comience por cruzar la línea de la cortesía y la civilidad con los muchachos con botas de inmigración, las incursiones de sabotaje, interrumpen las deportaciones. Bloquee los vuelos chárter, apoyar la resistencia interior. Atacar a los engranajes de la máquina corporativos deportación.
