Protesters are planning to cross the Adriatic Sea from Ancona (Italy) to Greece and on to Idomeni, at the Greek-FYROM Macedonian border – their aim is to open the border and provide solidarity to the refugees gathered there – refugees who escaped war zones and crossed the Aegean, only to find that Fortress Europe in the shape of eastern European countries extending from Macedonia to Austria have raised the drawbridge to any further refugees heading north. At Idomeni, on the Greek-FYROM (Macedonian) border, the portcullis of iron fences has literally been raised alongside the miles and miles of barbed wire fencing to deter the thousands of refugees now gathered there.
