7 Oct 2019. Yesterdays massive protests against imminent illegal Turkish Invasion in Sere Kaniye/Ras al-Ayn border.
Erdogan is still being courted by both the US and Russia who see Turkey as strategic, he has defied with impunity the now embattled Trump on the S400 deal and on buying Iranian oil, and now demands permission to use Syrian air space to again bomb the Syrian people before invading.
But over and over he previously claimed he wants to expel the local Kurdish population. ”cleanse Rojava” and restore the Ottoman Empire and is proving his wish in ‘turkifying’ Afrin, so this new senseless invasion would be more ethnic cleansing and attempted genocide.
Erdogan has gained much needed support (his AKP party lost Istanbul city council) by complaining often about the 3.5m Syrian refugees in Turkey, although they are less than 5% of the Turkish population in a huge area. Turkey has already received 6,000,000,000 euros by blackmailing EU taxpayers to support them.
Refugees used again as Human Blackmail by Erdogan to extract money and impunity for Rojava invasion
Meanwhile they are forced to work black for starvation wages, boosting the economy and forcing salaries down for everyone. (The over 3 million Syrian refugees in Turkey (actually a tiny minority in a population of 81 million compared with the IDP’s hosted in Rojava and formerly Afrin) are being cruelly exploited as virtual black slave labour while being subsidised with billions of euros by the EU taxpayer with continuous blatant blackmail threats to ” flood Europe” with them.)
And now he is using them as a ridiculous excuse for a new illegal invasion, this time in NE Syria. (The idea of ‘settling’ 2,000,000 refugees in an already occupied rural semi desert region with no resources might appeal to Erdogan’s favourite historical figure: Adolf Hitler).
Lebanon for example has nearly half its population Syrian refugees and gets little aid or attention. Afrin, before the ongoing invasion by Turkey, had nearly doubled its population hosting a huge number of Arab, Christian, Assyrian and Turkmen refugees and was hailed as a model of direct democracy, gender equality and religious and ethnic tolerance.
Despite a siege blockade the Afrin population nearly doubled (172k to 323k ) while Turkey’s has only increased by 4.4% (3.5 million out of 80 million). (The total population of Afrin as of 2005 was recorded at only 172,095 people Wikipedia.) The Turkish takeover has forced a mass exodus of refugees from Afrin amidst documented reports of mass murder, widespread looting , kidnapping, rape, a continuing guerilla war and pillage by the Turkish contracted Jihadi mercenaries and Turkish military.
Once invaded Turkey will NEVER LEAVE, and a guerilla war will continue indefinitely. For example, Turkey refuses to leave Nth Cyprus, or its illegal bases in Iraq,or Afrin, Al Bab, Jarablus, Azaz.. or of course the Syrian province of Hatay, now 80 years invaded and ethnically cleansed.
Erdogan forced more than half Afrin’s population to flee and they still survive in tent camps, seizing their property and importing thousands of jihadi mercenaries, Al Qaeda ex ISIS guerillas, and sponsored the Al Qaesa mini state in Idlib….
…and now has the utter hypocrisy to complain about refugees and announce a new invasion ‘to settle them in a safe area’.
It is not necessary either to set up a ”safe zone”. All Turkey has to do is pull out and stop the arms, cash and material supplies, HTS in Idlib would have to surrender the Al Qaeda State, the war would quickly end and the refugees would surely flock home.
Many of the FSA arereceiving aid and weapons openly through the Turkish Hatay border.
Another example, in Raqqa, Al-Tabqa and Deir-Es-Z0r, when the SDF multi ethnic heroes finally expelled the Turkish supplied ISIS and set up
Many many new civil organizations, especially women’s, are flourishing in the AA (Autonomous Administration) area freed from ISIS, despite minimal international aid. ( Check ANHA’s lists here for dozens of verifiable reports/).
Despite terrorist attacks from ISIS and Turkey Al Raqqa is already a thriving autonomous metropolis in the multi ethnic multi religion, horizontally organized and feminist revolution.
Erdogan’s second big excuse for his latest invasion plan is that the self defense forces in the AA area, YPJ/YPG and SDF are really part of the historical PKK Kurdish Resistance. The PKK was until 2004 a Stalinist guerilla movement . Then with the inspiration of Ocalan it changed into a popular social revolutionary ideology of municipal anarchism and renouncing separatism, hierarchy, sexism and ecocide and held various unilateral ceasefires.
But its listing as a terrorist organization was never revoked. Erdogan engineered an end to the ceasefire and launched a military campaign against his 20 million Kurdish minority in 2015 in order to gain absolute power via nationalist hysteria. Then by branding everything Kurdish as ‘PKK terrorist’ he could silence them and avoid international support. Erdogan knows full well the PKK are not terrorists, he negotiated with Ocalan, who again has offered a peace plan, and had a long ceasefire with him.
There have never been any significant attacks from Rojava into Turkey. There is zero danger (and a 764km long moveable wall along the border, built from seven-tonne concrete blocks, topped with towers and razor wire!). While tens of thousands of agressions have come the other way, supplying the bulk of the endless Syrian civil war. The continual accusations of PKK membership are just lies to gain and maintain power with a handy excuse to practice genocide on the Kurdish people, exclude them from all talks, treaties and the constitutional conferfence, and most importantly, steal their land.
What can you do, reading this in some safer and stabler part of the world?
by It’s Going Down .. If the Turkish government and its henchmen expect their extermination fantasies to become reality, they have not taken into account the resistance of the women’s and people’s defense units (YPJ/YPG) and especially the resistance of the people in Northern and Eastern Syria.
Those who have defeated the Islamic state through the sacrifice of thousands of martyrs and the courageous resistance of the population will defend the self-governing areas against a Turkish invasion.
We must all do our part and fulfill our responsibility of defending this revolution! The military, economic and diplomatic cooperation between Turkey, the USA, NATO and European countries must be exposed and politically attacked. No support for Erdogan, his regime and his war!
No arms supply and no financial or political aid to the Turkish extermination policy!
If democratic movements decide to put the issue on the agenda: in the media, on the streets, in the factories, businesses and classrooms of their countries, then we can develop a common force against Turkey’s war plans.
We must build a permanent political resistance capable of preventing cooperation with Turkish fascism in our countries.
Should it come to Day X, the beginning of a Turkish invasion: take to the streets, take actions, occupy, disrupt and block! Show those responsible in the government offices and company headquarters what you think of their war!
Together we can stop the war of aggression of Turkey! No war against Northern Syria!
The revolution in Northeast Syria will win, fascism will be smashed! ”
”In the event of a Turkish invasion, you can use every means in your power to discredit and impede the Turkish state, Erdogan, Trump, Putin and the others who paved the way for that outcome.
Even if you are not able to stop them—even if you can’t save our lives—you will be part of building the kind of social movements and collective capacity that will be necessary to save others’ lives in the future.
In addition, you can look for ways to get resources to people in this part of the world, who have suffered so much and will continue to suffer as the next act of this tragedy plays out.
ATTACKS by Turkish-backed jihadist sleeper cells in Syria increased last month, with intensified activity seen in cities in border areas and inside the so-called buffer zone, according to a new report.
The Rojava Information Centre (RIC) recorded 95 sleeper cell attacks in August and said they were intended to “destabilise infrastructure and shatter the fragile peace in the region, paving the way for Turkey’s expected invasion.”
Isis cells were behind most of the attacks, but there has also been increased activity by the Turkish-linked Ahrar al-Shaab group, focusing on border cities such as Sere Kaniye, Dirbesiye and Qamishlo.
The group claimed responsibility for 14 acts of violence, including assassinations, beheadings, stabbings and the planting of explosive devices targeting the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militia alliance.
#BreakSilenceOnAfrin .. One of the hundreds of former ISIS fighters who fled to Turkey, recruited as “FSA” and now is attacking Afrin together with Turks. This is Turkey’s war on Kurds.
Ahrar al-Shaab claimed to be carrying out “revenge” attacks on behalf of the Turkish military, which has been occupying the largely Kurdish Afrin region since Ankara launched Operation Olive Branch in January last year.
The group said it was responding to “attacks on our people in the areas of Olive Branch and the Euphrates Shield,” the latter being the codename for the initial Turkish ground invasion of Syria.
RIC researcher Robin Fleming said: “Through its use of assassinations and IEDs [improvised explosive devices] to target SDF and Asayish [internal security], Turkish-linked group Ahrar al-Shaab seeks to destabilise society and security in north-east Syria, in tandem with Turkey’s continued threats and troop movements along the border.
Wikipedia: Turkish cooperation with and support for ISIL Ever since the formal founding of ISIL from its Islamist predecessor groups in June 2014, Turkey has faced numerous allegations of collaboration with and support for ISIL in international media. Several of the allegations have focused on Turkish businessman and politician Berat Albayrak, who has faced calls for his prosecution in the United States.
“Turkey is by no means solely responsible for the sleeper-cell attacks being carried out daily in north-east Syria, but it has long demonstrated its desire to attack and destabilise the democratic project here by any means possible, including open support for jihadist groups.”
Last month, the Star reported on the extensive links between Turkish intelligence services and senior ISIS figures that are now in charge of battalions inside Syria.
Mr Fleming added: “Whether the work of Isis in Deir-ez-Zor or Turkish-linked terror group Ahrar al-Shaab in Hasekeh, the intention and impact of these attacks on the local, civilian population is the same.
Wikipedia: Several ISIL fighters and commanders have claimed Turkey supports ISIL. A former ISIS member mentioned that the ISIS groups were essentially given free rein by Turkey’s army. He said: “ISIS commanders told us to fear nothing at all because there was full cooperation with the Turks.
“They are intended to prevent co-operation between co-existing peoples in north-east Syria, destabilize infrastructure and shatter the fragile peace in the region, paving the way for the expected Turkish invasion.”
Turkey’s authoritarian President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly threatened a third invasion of the region in a bid to effectively annex whole swathes of Syrian territory along the border area. A huge military force is poised to attack at any moment.
The Rojava Information Center has recorded 95 sleeper cell attacks in the month of August, incuding attacks carried out by ISIS and Ahrar al-Shaab- resulting in 35 recorded deaths.
August saw a 15% increase in overall attacks since July (c. 95 up from 85).
The month saw 64 ISIS-claimed attacks and 14 claimed by Turkish-linked group Ahrar al-Shaab, including 35 claimed and unclaimed killings.
Ahrar al-Shaab focused a majority (57%) of its attacks in the Jazeera region, including cities along the Turkish border and inside the proposed ‘buffer zone’ such as Sere Kaniye, Dirbesiye, and Qamishlo.
Turkish-linked group uses assassinations and IEDs to target SDF and security forces, claiming it seeks “revenge” on behalf of Turkish-backed forces already occupying Afrin.
Meanwhile, ISIS targets and assassinates mukhtars (village elders) in Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor, seeking to drive Arab population away from the Autonomous Administration.
This month has seen an increase in attacks by Ahrar al-Shaab (see below for more info on the sleeper cell organisation’s links to Turkey). Ahrar al-Shaab focused a majority (57%) of its attacks in the Jazeera region, including cities along the Turkish border and inside the proposed ‘buffer zone’ such as Sere Kaniye, Dirbesiye, and Qamishlo. Of 35 total deaths, 7 deaths were claimed by Ahrar al-Shaab and 18 by ISIS, with 10 left unclaimed.
All 7 of Ahrar al-Shaab’s documented stabbings, beheadings and assassinations took place in the Jazeera region, close to the border regions where Turkey is threatening occupation.
Meanwhile, ISIS continued to target and assassinate mukhtars (village elders) in Raqqa and elsewhere, seeking to drive the local, Arab population away from the Autonomous Administration. Raqqa saw 4 attacks targeting mukhtars, with local council leaders also targeted in Deir-ez-Zor.
The security situation in Deir Ez-Zor has remained mostly unchanged: the majority of attacks across North East Syria still occur in the newly-liberated region, as also the majority of SDF raids. The region saw 49 attacks and 20 claimed and unclaimed killings, with RPG attacks, mines, and armed assaults on checkpoints a daily occurrence.
The security of Tabqa has remained stable, with no attacks, whereas the city of Raqqa faced an increase of attacks since July. The city of Raqqa faced 7 attacks, plus more in the surrounding countryside. The Jazeera region, encompassing major cities such as Hasakah, Qamishlo, Amude and Dirbesiye, was the site of 7 motorcycle and car bombings, plus grenade, IED and armed attacks, as well as assassinations of SDF and Asayish (Internal Security Forces).
Meanwhile. over 78 members of ISIS and other cells were arrested during 39 SDF and coalition raids of August, including high ranking ISIS member, Anwar Mohammad Hadoushi, from Belgium who is believed to be involved in the Paris and Brussels attacks.
Note on Ahrar al-Shaab’s links to Turkey:
Several factors indicate a high likelihood of Turkish intelligence involvement in Ahrar al-Shab’s activities, with the group operating in a similar fashion to previously-active Turkish-linked groups such as Harakat al-Qiyam: (1) focusing propaganda on the ‘PKK’ and ‘PYD’; (2) using the Turkish phrase “Zaytin Dali” to refer to Operation Olive Branch; (3) using its telegram channel to push Turkish propaganda lines over PKK links to SDF.

Most significantly, (4) Ahrar al-Shab have stated they are responding to “attacks on our people in the areas of Olive Branch and the Euphrates Shield”, clearly aligning themselves with the Turkish occupation in Afrin. We can provide further background and comment on the group if needed.
