KSN-Jin International Women’s Day Statement

via Kurdistan Solidarity Network

Solidarity message for the women of Kurdistan, and for women’s movements everywhere struggling against femicide, in defense of free women and society, on 8th March, 2021.

Today, we wish to send a message of strength, courage, solidarity and hope to all our sisters, and especially to all Kurdish women political prisoners currently on hunger strike in Turkish prisons.

The Kurdish Women’s Movement provides inspiration to women’s movements all over Europe, and for us in England, Wales and Scotland, as an example of collective women’s struggle.

Your dignified and strong response to the actions of the Turkish State is inspirational, is gaining increasing support in the national news and in the British Parliament, as well as amongst ordinary people who care about creating a better world and peace in Kurdistan.

We salute all the women who demand freedom and who resist in the prison of darkness, such as Laila Guven, Zainab Jalalian and many others.

As feminists, we know that struggle involves work and it involves love. It is militant just as much as it is joyful. Whether we look to you, our sisters and comrades who have been imprisoned by the Turkish state, to the women fighting in the mountains of Kurdistan, or the women building new ways of life across society in all four parts of Kurdistan, we see this same love and dedication in their actions.

We also see this love for struggle in the victories of the Irish, Argentinian and Polish feminists fighting for reproductive justice. We see it in the anti-racist and decolonial struggles across the world, from the Zapatistas to Black Lives Matter.

On International Women’s Day, together with our sisters of the Kurdish Women’s Movement and all free women, we will take to the streets.

We join your call to continue the struggle, to stand side by side as free women and raise our voices, to oppose all forms of injustice and fascism, to strive for building a society where justice and equality prevail and where the rights and dignity of women are respected.

We call for unity and solidarity, against feminicide and in defence of a free life and free society everywhere. United we will overcome. We salute you and wish you peace and strength.

Jin! Jiyan! Azadi!

8 arrested are ”An Anarchist Group, responsible for the riots in Barcelona for Pablo Hasel’s Freedom” claim cops. Eng/Esp

All 8 arrested, 6 Italians, 1 French and 1 Spanish. were apparently held on the last day of the radical street resistance when the demonstrators reached an inner city police station where a police van was slightly burned. An Italian woman is charged with ‘attempted murder’- for supposedly spraying gel on the side of the van. After being humiliated by the fierce 8 day resistance the Mossos police have clearly mounted a revenge case with random arrests.

Eight detainees: An anarchist group is according to the Mossos, the main responsible for the riots in Barcelona for the freedom of Pablo Hasel. , there are eight people arrested: six of Italian nationality, one French and one Spanish.

Given the broad social response, especially among young people, to the aberrational imprisonment of rapper Pablo Hasel, the Catalan police already have those responsible, the scapegoats whom they intend to criminalize as a social lesson and hide, incidentally, the brutal abuses committed by the riot police (one eye of a protester blinded, the massive beating in Gràcia …).

It is in this context that peasants from the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) start a national day with the theme “Women for life, sowing resistance against hunger and violence”. The mobilizations are in reference to the International Day of the Woman, the 8 of March.

Priscila Facina Monnerat, coordinator of the MST Women’s Collective in Paraná, emphasizes the month of March as the annual period marked by the mobilization of women. This year, the defense of life takes center stage.

“This scenario that we face, of record deaths by covid-19, a lot of violence and insecurity, is the result of a genocidal policy of the Bolsonaro government. What we want is the return of emergency aid, vaccines now and for everyone, and the confrontation of the various forms of violence ”, she demands.

More than 2000 women have gathered this Sunday afternoon in front of the Putxet railways in a non-mixed night march in favor of 8-M. Organized by several feminist assemblies, the protesters were summoned days in advance so the police were already present in the area before their arrival..

All 8-M demonstrations have been BANNED in Madrid, but allowed in Barcelona with ‘Covid distancing restrictions’

The demonstration has ended with severe damage, although no container or other urban furniture has been burned. The protesters, as reported by the Mossos d’Esquadra, have broken the windows of a car dealership, a telephone store, a travel agency, the premises of a dentist and at least five bank offices.

Remembering our comrade Leah Feldman 1899 – 1993 .. A Rebel Spirit!

thefreeonline's avatarThe Free

by kate Sharpley LibraryLeah Feldman was one of the ordinary men and women who rarely get into history books but have been the backbone of the anarchist movement.

Born in Warsaw in 1899, as a schoolgirl she became interested in anarchism. She said that her mother used to hide her shoes so that she could not attend meetings, which were then illegal in Poland. Finally she ran away to her sister in London where she earned her living at the sewing machine.

Working in the sweatshops of the East End she became active in the Yiddish-speaking anarchist movement that flourished at that time. When the Russian revolution broke out in 1917 the overwhelming majority of Russian male Jewish anarchists returned home. Many of those women whose husbands and lovers died at the hands of the Tsarists or the Bolsheviks, remained in England.

Leah, however, had made…
