The last revision of the fire extinguishers gives a good account of the moment in which that space died.
It was October 2014, and although the next inspection should have been carried out a year later, it was never carried out. It has taken more than six years since then for the premises located in the center of Madrid’s Hortaleza neighborhood to host activity again.
The Okupied La Animosa Social Center is born, located on Mar de Japan Street, at number 15, of 1,800 square meters, according to the cadastre. The property, which belongs to the Sareb (a bank created by the state to sell off toxic loans), will be restored to life by the assembly of the Social Center, whose members are already thinking of preparing the place to install a gym, establish a study room and a library, an exhibition center and different compartments so that they can be used by social groups that need it.
The process has not been easy. In the neighborhood they needed a place where the different social organizations could meet, from neighborhood associations to anti-fascist collectives.
