Immediate freedom for Giannis Michailidis, a political prisoner in the prisons of Greece, on hunger strike for near 50 days

Since May 23, Giannis Michailidis has been on a hunger strike in Malandrinos prison. -“After 5 more months of pre-trial detention, I start a hunger strike for my release.”-

Giannis is a political prisoner, like the dozens of political prisoners in Greece, from the youth who rose up against the Troika that imposed the worst adjustment plans against the workers and the people.

Giannis fought for the Syrian refugees when they arrived on the Greek shores so that the borders were opened, the concentration camps ended and they were given all rights.

Moreover, from behind the bars where the Greek bourgeoisie and its state keep him imprisoned, he fought for the victory of the Syrian revolution.

Giannis is a political prisoner. They have sentenced him to long years in prison, fabricating all kinds of causes and maneuvers, making false trials to keep him in “pretrial detention” and taking advantage of this or that legal aspect to deny him parole over and over again.

They even revoke his right to study and to take exams, even though he has already been in prison for more than 8 years and has served 3/5 of his 20-year sentence and 2/5 of his sentence for escaping.

They have been merciless to Giannis to the point that after 48 days of hunger strike, having lost 21% of his weight and with his health in serious danger, they deny him the possibility of the medical attention he needs.

His findings are listed below:

• Abnormal uterine bleeding (menstrual irregularity) is 1000-fold greater
• Miscarriages are 50-fold greater
• Fetal chromosomal abnormalities are 100-fold greater
• Fetal malformation is 50-fold greater
• Fetal cystic hygroma (a major malformation) is 90-fold greater
• Fetal cardiac disorders are 40-fold greater
• Fetal arrhythmia is 50-fold greater
• Fetal cardiac arrest is 200-fold greater
• Fetal vascular mal-perfusion is a 100-fold greater
• Fetal growth abnormalities are 40-fold greater
• Fetal abnormal surveillance tests are 20-fold greater
• Fetal placental thrombosis is 70-fold greater

Thorp said that he verified his analysis with a DOD (Department of Defense) statistical consultant that agreed to help him on the condition of anonymity.

Saharawi boys and girls look forward to arriving in Spain as well as other European countries.

After the blockage by the current Spanish government’s political change of policy, (supporting the US and Israeli recognition of illegal Moroccan occupation) the program was finally authorized and published in the Official Govt Bulletin on July 1, with a substantial delay of at least 20 days, compared to previous years.

Finally the arrival of Saharawi children in our community was approved, as well as in the rest of the Spanish territory.

Saharawi families in the refugee camps are closely and with uncertainty following the delay in the arrival of their children, and are already counting the days, wishing it to be the sooner the better.

The Polisario Front, as the government of the Saharawi people, works together with the associative movement, and is responsible for hiring the flights that will bring the small ‘Saharawi ambassadors’, as well as preparing the collective passports that are sent from Algiers to the Spanish consulate.

They have also stated in a circular sent to the delegations of each community that the program will be developed, although they regret that it could not have been before, due to various bureaucratic problems.

We must not forget that the program began, after a 2-year hiatus, last February, without knowing yet how the Covid would evolve.

Later, the Spanish foreign policy turnaround was added, which has damaged relations with Algeria.

This has caused, for the Polisario Front and the Saharawi population, that has suffered refuge and violent occupation since 1975, one of the hardest summers in history.

RMT executive will ‘consider’ new offer. Not hard to guess what the answer will be

The government’s wholly-owned subsidiary Network Rail has delivered a ‘revised’ pay offer to the RMT union.

The RMT has received an offer from Network Rail which our NEC will consider tomorrow morning
It amounts to a real terms pay cut over the next two years and will involve cutting a third of all frontline maintenance roles and 50% of all scheduled maintenance work.

There will also be an expectation of unsocial hours and lower pay across the board.

Network Rail have offered high level managers in bands 1-3 a more than 40% hike in return for adopting modest flexibility in comparison to RMT members RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said:

“Our NEC will have to make a decision on this offer tomorrow.

“But Network Rail and the train operating companies need to understand that RMT has done deals with both London Underground and recently Merseyrail that were well in excess of what our members are being offered here.

“Our members have lost thousands of pounds in earnings due to a pay freeze in recent years and they refuse to be short-changed again.

We will not hesitate to call further strike action and seek to coordinate with Aslef and TSSA, if the rail industry will not seek a negotiated settlement with us.”
