A 20-month-old girl has died as a result of injuries caused by the impact of the stone that fell in the storm this Tuesday evening in the Girona regions.

The shocking storm lasted less than half an hour.

The girl was in Bisbal d’Empordà at the time of the hailstorm. She was transferred to the Josep Trueta Hospital, where she died.

A woman was also injured in the storm, who spent the night admitted to the Trueta and was discharged this morning.

In addition, more than fifty people have had to be treated for injuries of varying degrees. In the case of the Hospital de Palamós, 14 people were treated, while at the CAP of the municipality, there were 33, the majority due to bruises or even fractures.

The hailstones beat the all time recorded record

The storm fell this Tuesday evening in the regions of Girona, north of Barcelona and it was particularly strong in Baix Empordà, Alt Empordà, Pla de l’Estany and Gironès.

Next morning a new storm hit Barcelona city.

In some localities, stones of more than 10 centimeters in diameter have fallen. In fact, this is the maximum diameter of a fallen stone in Catalonia since the Meteorological Service has records, that is to say, for the last 20 years.

The stone has caused numerous damages, with broken branches, damage to roofs, broken car windows and dozens of dead birds.

Between the evening and the night of Tuesday, the Fire Department has made 39 interventions in Bisbal and two in Forallac.

Una nena de 20 mesos ha mort a conseqüència de les ferides causades per l’impacte de la pedra que ha caigut en la tempesta d’aquest dimarts al vespre a les comarques gironines.

A més, més d’una cinquantena de persones han hagut de ser ateses per ferides de diversa consideració. En el cas de l’Hospital de Palamós, es van atendre 14 persones, mentre que al CAP del municipi, en van ser 33, la majoria a causa de contusions o fins i tot fractures.

En la pedregada s’ha registrat el diàmetre màxim de pedra a Catalunya des de l’any 2002, segons les dades del Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya:


Una pedregada amb pedra inusualment grossa

Una tempesta ha caigut aquest dimarts al vespre a les comarques gironines, i ha estat especialment forta al Baix Empordà, l’Alt Empordà, el Pla de l’Estany i el Gironès.

En algunes localitats ha caigut pedra de més de 10 centímetres de diàmetre. De fet, es tracta del diàmetre màxim de pedra caiguda a Catalunya des que el Servei Meteorològic en té registres, és a dir, dels últims 20 anys.

La pedra ha causat nombrosos desperfectes, amb branques trencades, destrosses en teulades, vidres de cotxes trencats o desenes d’ocells morts.

Entre el vespre i la nit de dimarts, els Bombers han fet 39 intervencions a la Bisbal i dues a Forallac.
