There’s a lot happening, so let’s dive right in!

Political Prisoner News

Perhaps the biggest piece of political prisoner news is that Mutulu Shakur has finally been granted parole after more than 36 years. Natasha Lennard has written a report and analysis of the situation, which is available in a more accessible form on the ABCF site.

The support crew for anarchist prisoner Eric King have published an update on his situation, featuring new writing and poetry from Eric, who remains amazingly defiant while in the depths of the supermax.

Earth liberation defendant Joseph Dibee has been sentenced to time served, meaning that he’s due for release, a rejection of the prosecution’s attempt to get a longer sentence.

A rally in support of Chicano anarchist political prisoner Xinachtli was held on November 21st in Austin, Texas.

Indigenous anarchist political prisoner Oso Blanco has designed some new greeting cards to raise money for children on reservations and in Zapatista territory.

The Anarchist Black Cross Federation has launched an appeal to “Give Through The Bars” to raise money for their ongoing work with political prisoners, and James River ABC will be holding a holiday letter-writing party on December 20th in Richmond, Virginia.

Anarchist and antifascist prisoner Dan Baker continues to publish new writings regularly through Mongoose Distro, such as “Confessions and Self Criticisms,” “Selfless Anarchism in Action,” and “Herstory.”

Uprising Defendants and Other Ongoing Cases

Recent weeks have unfortunately seen the sentencing of a number of antifascist defendants. In Olympia, Benjamin Varela was sentenced for his part in defending Olympia from a rampage by the Proud Boys, led by Tusitala “Tiny” Toese.

His address is:

Benjamin Varela #434577
Washington Corrections Center
P.O. Box 900
Shelton, WA 98584

In California, Nikki Hubbard has been sentenced to four years for taking action to oppose a violent “Patriot March” in Pacific Beach that involved several of the January 6th rioters. Nikki, a trans woman, is currently being held in a men’s prison, and her supporters have set up a linktree, where you can find her support facebook, tiktok, and instagram pages, as well as a cashapp. A petition to get her moved to a women’s prison will also be set up in the near future.

Over on the East Coast, Alexander Stokes Contompasis has been sentenced to 20 years for his part in a confrontation with a group of Proud Boys on January 6th, 2021. Supporters have set up a site, Free Alex Stokes, and are selling prints of his art to help with his costs. Donations can also be sent directly to Cashapp – $freealexstokes or Venmo – @free_alex_stokes.

In more positive news, November also saw a string of victories involving water protector defendants, as five of the “Shell River Seven” had their charges dropped, along with other cases connected to the Treaty People Gathering, while former NoDAPL political prisoner Rattler was granted early release.

Pink Floyd legend urges ‘British poodle’ to free Assange

Rock star and activist Roger Waters accused the government of ignoring the law and taking orders from the US

British rock legend Roger Waters slammed the authorities in London, accusing them of doing the bidding of their “masters in Washington,” at a rally in New York on Saturday, calling for the release of WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange.

“Julian, you are not alone! … We are many, and we have a message for Vanessa Baraitser, that apology for a magistrate that set you down in that kangaroo court in London,” Waters said, referring to a judge who signed the extradition order. “Ms. Baraitser, you are a disgrace to the legal profession. F**k you.”

UK district judge Vanessa Baraitser initially refused to surrender Assange to the US, citing fears that he would be subjected to inhumane treatment, but Washington managed to convince London that the journalist’s rights would be “respected.” In the US, Assange faces espionage charges that carry a prison sentence of up to 175 years.

Addressing a crowd outside of the British Consulate on Saturday, the rock musician, who has long been a vocal supporter of Assange, recalled how in 2020, he “wasted a few words on Boris Johnson, who was then the United States’ tamed poodle” and who “ignored the law and did the bidding of his masters in Washington.”

Today, the current pitiful British poodle, Rishi Sunak, is equally well-trained… ‘Rishi, sit! Good boy!’

“What about the law, Mr. Sunak? What about magna carta? What about basic human rights?” Waters asked.

WikiLeaks supporters insist that Assange was simply practicing journalism by publishing the documents, which were redacted to remove sensitive information. Activists claim Washington retaliated against the outlet and its co-founder for exposing its own war crimes.

“Without Julian Assange we might as well be alone. Without a free press we might as well be alone,” Waters said. “Without basic human rights for all our brothers and sisters irrespective of their color, religion or nationality, we might as well all be alone.”

Julian Assange entered the crosshairs of the US government in 2010 when WikiLeaks published classified documents revealing alleged war crimes committed by US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was forced to take refuge inside the Ecuadorian Embassy in London from 2012 to 2019, when a new government in Quito revoked his asylum status and he was arrested for skipping bail.

The Australian-born publisher remains locked up in Belmarsh Prison in the UK, pending extradition to the US. His health and mental state are said to be deteriorating after years of confinement.

Indonesia ‘sex ban’: Criminal code changes threaten other freedoms

Roxana Vanessa's avatarStigmatis

It has been branded the “Bali Bonking Ban”. The revised criminal code which has been approved this week by the Indonesian parliament is getting the kind of publicity rarely given to arcane changes in another country’s legal system.

Indonesia’s revised criminal code has been approved this week by parliament

By Jonathan Head | South East Asia correspondent | 8 Dec. 2022

Headlines around the world are warning tourists visiting Indonesia that they face up to a year in jail if caught having sex or cohabiting with someone they are not married to.

Suddenly a country usually lauded as a pluralistic Muslim democracy finds itself being accused of mediaeval moral meddling.

It is actually a much more complicated story, and the “sex ban” is not the most disturbing change for many Indonesians, who see other areas of the code threatening human rights and freedom of speech.

Exclusive: Joseph Farah repents of his comparing freedom-squelching leader to biblical heroes

Joseph Farah

By Joseph Farah
Published December 8, 2022

I was fooled about Volodymyr Zelensky.

Yes, even I. When I’m wrong, I like to admit it. And I was horribly wrong.

How wrong was I about the entire war in Ukraine?

Last March, I called Zelensky a courageous “Hebrew warrior.” How’s that? Worse yet, I jumped to conclusions about his war.

I apologize.

I even compared him to biblical heroes from the book of Judges. Sheesh! Was I ever wrong about him.

I was too quick to believe the media – something I rarely do. My whole career trained me against it.

But today, seeing is believing.

So what has he done wrong? It’s legion. Zelensky has banned opposition parties. He’s shut down critical media by force. He’s arrested his…

Kolektiva: Social Media By and For Anarchists

From subMedia

This is our chance to re-imagine social media, and our relationship to it. To rediscover the lost promise of the Internet. To construct new digital worlds in the burning shell of the old. And to do it together.

The old paradigms are dying. It’s long past time that those who want to overthrow this miserable system break our addiction to data-mining surveillance platforms, built and maintained by our enemies.

Kolektiva.social is a Mastodon instance built by and for anarchists. It is just one small node in a larger decentralized network called the Fediverse. Unlike other Twitter alternatives like Koo or Hive, the software and apps that power this network are all open source, with each server setting its own rules, free from the influence of ad-driven algorithms and billionaire tech-bro CEOs.

There is great potential here, but whether we realize that potential depends on all of us. That’s why we’re calling on you to get involved.

Australia ‘Concerned’ As People Dying At ‘Incredibly High’ Pace And “It Can’t Tell Why”

by Navdeep Yadav, from Benzinga Dec 7, 2022 via thefreeonline

Australia‘s peak actuarial body has asked the government to urgently investigate the country’s “incredibly high” 13% excess death rate in 2022.

So what’s different?- 97.3% of victims have had at least one injection of the perilous experimental mRNA Covid 19 “vaccines”.https://www.health.gov.au/our-work/covid-19-vaccines/vaccination-numbers-and-statistics

What Happened: An analysis of Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data by the Actuaries Institute showed that an additional 15,400 people died in the first eight months of the year in the country.

Actuaries said that number includes around one-third of those having no link to COVID-19, but 97.3% of the population have had at least one and many up to 4 injections against the largely inoffensive virus.

Some on social media have suggested Covid vaccines are behind the rise in excess deaths.

“Deaths are 17 per cent higher than normal in Australia,” Queensland LNP senator Matt Canavan wrote on Twitter earlier this year. “I don’t know what it is but it is about time we got serious about asking why.”

At the time, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) told ABC Fact Check it was “false and unscientific to automatically conclude that vaccines caused these deaths”.

Australia Concerned As People Dying At 'Incredibly High' Pace And It Can't Tell Why

“There is no credible evidence to suggest that Covid-19 vaccines have contributed to excess deaths in Australia or overseas,” the TGA said.

Ms Cutter also rubbished those claims.

“There is zero evidence that vaccines are causing these deaths as far as I’m concerned, but I cannot prove it,” she said.

13% was an “incredibly high number for mortality,” and it was “not clear” what was driving the increase, said Karen Cutter, spokeswoman for the institute’s Covid-19 Mortality Working Group.
