Squatting & the property question – Personal Possessions & Communal Property v Private Property
While one’s immediate reaction to using and living in an empty home or putting workplaces/land to use that is legally owned by another individual or company may immediately be that it is illegitimate or morally wrong, this article aims to deconstruct the argument that individuals, legal or real should be able to dominate and/or control property for their exclusive use, or to leave it rot at the expense of others.

The ideas and justifications for private property go to the heart of the capitalist/statist system and its ability to control resources and the means to life to the exclusion, exploitation and detriment of the majority of the planet’s population.
Within the capitalist world, capitalist ideologues use the word ‘property’ to mean anything from a toothbrush to a workplace, this understanding of the word property has filtered into everyday use—however this is a false use of the word property. Its use in this context convinces people to associate their personal possessions with the monopolization of the means of life (private property). 
Essentially, private property is the domination and control of resources (land/workplaces/food ect .) by individuals, which is backed up overwhelming by force (the state). Take, for example, Irish water. Denis O’brien and his cohorts control (dominate) the company to their own ends and profits and the state uses the gardai to back it up when their operations are disrupted by legitimate protestors fighting for their rights and livelihoods. This the how the relationship between private property and the state operates.
The quote above, ‘property is theft’, which is taken from the French anarchist Proudhon forms the basis of the anti-capitalist attack on private property. The reasoning behind the statement that property is theft is that the Earth and all of the things produced by humans are the cumulative products of thousands of years and generations of work, science, innovation and production. The police broken into the house of 5 comrades from the Straight Edge Madrid collective this morning (04.11.15) and seized collective materials then arrested all 5 comrades.
The 5 comrades are being held at the Moratalaz police station and have not been allowed to see a lawyer. Coming straight after the Pandora raids (with no evidence) the arrest of vegan anti drug activists on terrorist charges is one more cynical far right election ploy to put the word TERRORISTS all over the tame subsidised media. The first I knew of it, for example was a headline saying ”anarchist terrorists seized for bombs in Madrid”.. but there have been no bombings!

The Police have this morning arrested at least nine people accused of ”organizing a terrorist group” in a new political operation led by the National Court. Hundreds of Catalan police smashed into and searched various anarchist social centers and local homes from 7.00 am in the neighborhoods of Sants, Gracia, Clot and Sant Andreu in the city of Barcelona, and in the city of Manresa.
the police attacks were ordered by is the Spanish National Court as a new phase in the much criticised and ridiculed ‘ Pandora operation’, as confirmed by a note from the Catalan police, the first phase resulted in the arrest of ten people and preventive imprisonment of seven of them last December (finally all were released on bail due to lack of evidence)..
Among the targets this time is the Revoltosa Occupiued Social Center in in Clot, and the main Anarchist Ateneo center in Sants, at Maria Victoria St, where ten vans of riot police were deployed.
When the news got out, dozens of people have gathered to show their solidarity and have cut the principle Sants high street behind a banner in support of the detainees

The first is that a large majority of the 1000 people they surveyed – 74% – identify more strongly with unselfish values than with selfish values. This means that they are more interested in helpfulness, honesty, forgiveness and justice than in money, fame, status and power. The second is that a similar majority – 78% – believes others to be more selfish than they really are. In other words, we have made a terrible mistake about other people’s minds.
